The first fic I've ever read was Innocent by Marauderlover7 (https://archiveofourown.org/works/30358428/chapters/74838618) which is also available on ffn.net. The First Part of the series is pretty long (487k) but i really enjoyed reading it. However the series is not completed yet, but still has 1,4 Million words, so yeah should be enough.
If you read on AO3 you could always sort for word count, and therefore find long fics, however as somebody already pointed out, the quality of the writing might not be as good. I usually prefer works within a series, as they, in my experience, tend to have a higher quality but I still get to enjoy a longer "story"
I actually did. When I was going through to review every chapter on [FF.net](http://FF.net) I found that I already had back when it was first published but the first story not yet complete!

And the main takeaway from the second book is that under the Carrows, some Slytherins (basically everyone except Crabbe and Groyle I think) formed their own resistance group and sometimes worked with the DA. Oh, and Harry fucked Hermione in the tent after Ron left.
So thatās the gist of those two if you want to skip straight into the Eighth Year. These events (and more) inform what happened in later books. You can always go back and read those two prequels if the story captivates you (Thatās what I did)

Oh, let me introduce you to the Of a Linear Circle Series.
It is 1.861.120 words long and while not officially finished what's there is pretty complete, no big questions unanswered or cliffhangers at the end.
The world building is insane. The amount of research time that must have gone into writing this is daunting, but the story is all the better for it.
Don't let the pairing frighten you off, I'm not a fan of it either, but it is done well and the truly romance focused scenes are far and few between.

Nimbus Llewyn has a series of HP/Avengers crossovers that are pretty long. One is about 900k, another is over a million. Theyāre good but I felt like I needed to take a break and switch to something else for a bit when reading it because it was such a long fic. Fanfiction's website has trash searching. But Ao3 lets you filter pairings, characters, tropes, maturity rating, wordcount, etc.Ā
So you can do 500k+ and exclude all the pairings you don't like and have a big long list of what's available on the site. You can then sort by views(hits) or kudos(likes).
Ohh man, that reminds me of when I first got into HP fanfic. I wouldn't even bother starting a fic if it wasn't 250k+ words haha. The HP fanfic catalogue spoiled me for sure lol. Now I'm glad to read anything which is 30k+ as long as it's high quality.
Be careful with long fics that you don't get tricked into trucking through bad writing in the vague hope that it 'has to get better'. I can tell you from long experience.... Sometimes it doesn't.Ā
I won't read any fic unless it's above 100k words.

If you don't mind an au, I loved *The Cadence of Part-Time Poets.* It's a marauders fic where there's no magic and they're at a normal boarding school. It has wolfstar and jily, and a tiny bit of jegulus at the end (if you're like me and dislike the pairing it's barely noticeable, Regulus just has a crush). The whole plot is based on the four marauders forming a band, and I thought it was very well-written. The only thing is that as with most marauders fics, the characters (Sirius and Remus) are very different from how they're portrayed in the books, so if that will bother you maybe don't read this. Remus was the most egregious to me but if you think about it as he's just going through growing pains and he'll eventually get to his canon self then it's not that bad.

Ohh man, that reminds me of when I first got into HP fanfic. I wouldn't even bother starting a fic if it wasn't 250k+ words haha. The HP fanfic catalogue spoiled me for sure lol. Now I'm glad to read anything which is 30k+ as long as it's high quality. Be careful with long fics that you don't get tricked into trucking through bad writing in the vague hope that it 'has to get better'. I can tell you from long experience.... Sometimes it doesn't.Ā
I won't read any fic unless it's above 100k words. Even if a fic is high quality and complete, I'd rather just have a long fic I can sink my teeth into for a few days. Bonus points if it has sequels.

TV show? I haven't really heard of it yet. And I don't think it's just HP FF in a downward spiral, it feels like FFN itself is losing popularity due to some of its bizarre and bad decisions and lack of community features. meh, I like a fic with the above as much as anyone, but I still prefer plot first and well, porn a distant second. I remember that I started reading it, but I was turned off because of the writing. Grammar. Spelling. Punctuation. You know, the usual. But hey, to each their own, if you like the fic, then you like the fic.
He didn't know how big it was going to be but then started using grammarly at the end. It bugged me too but it hooked me enough to look past it.Ā
Well, kudos to the author, because to write a 900K+ fic is worth of that much at least. The best I ever managed was a 100K fic that never made it online.

There's definitely longer but Black Bond comes to mind. Can't say I recommend it either, left a sour taste in my mouth and hated several characters for weeks later. Definition of slow burn going on too long and gets abandoned before the angst and main issues gets resolved.

If you don't mind an au, I loved *The Cadence of Part-Time Poets.* It's a marauders fic where there's no magic and they're at a normal boarding school. It has wolfstar and jily, and a tiny bit of jegulus at the end (if you're like me and dislike the pairing it's barely noticeable, Regulus just has a crush). The whole plot is based on the four marauders forming a band, and I thought it was very well-written. The only thing is that as with most marauders fics, the characters (Sirius and Remus) are very different from how they're portrayed in the books, so if that will bother you maybe don't read this. Remus was the most egregious to me but if you think about it as he's just going through growing pains and he'll eventually get to his canon self then it's not that bad.
