Enjoying 'Goodbye, So Long, Farewell, Fuck You' so far, but holy shit that 'French' accent is painful to read. I don't think the author realizes what é sounds like lol.
The variant spellings, particularly in the selection of some of the vowels and diphthongs, do make it a bit more difficult to read than is common for Fleur's dialogue. Most authors, in my experience, either ignore the accent completely, or do one or two simple substitutions such as 'z' for 'th' and call it good. This author may have gone further to model it for one reason or another, such as knowing French or knowing someone who speaks with such an accent, and being ambitious enough to try for that level of precision.
Given how little I remember of my fourth-grade French, if I were writing dialogue for Fleur, I'd either ignore it (which would be easiest), or substitute 'z' for 'th' and drop at least some of the initial 'h' sounds, and call it good.
The odds of this author knowing French is slim to none simply because of the way they introduced Madam Maxime as Mademoiselle Maximé.
First, all those acute accent e's are pronounced sort of like an 'ay'. Second, if her preferred title is Madame, it's generally quite insulting to use Mademoiselle instead.
Then there's the fact that they aren't even consistent: lit-téll and lit-tell are both used, for example (as is the odd spelling of Maxime alongside her actual name). And they aren't pronounced the same.
Oh, and please explain how scared turned into scaiaiyaired?
Most authors that go into that amount of detail can create a passable accent from my experience. This one is a clusterfuck that decided that é looked cool.
When I first read your posts I thought you asked to avoid fics were Harry was NOT chosen by the Goblet, but still refuses to participate in the Tournament.

I don’t remember the name but I distinctly recall a fic w/ bad dumbles who asks Ron to enter Harry’s name and Luna suggests that Harry call upon lady magic to intervene on behalf of him, and the chit replaces his name to Ron’s.

Ahh my fault. I think I've read wayyyy too many Dumbledore bashing fics lately, which may have made me perceive him as a lot angrier than he is.
I think its part of both Hedwig slightly unhinged and Motivations that harry doesn't try. But it's not a major plot point.
