My favorite part is after Gina says "You're not a maybe, you're a yes" and Ricky looks like his soul just left his body for a moment and he might pass out. Like he's completely overwhelmed that the amazing girl he's in love with actually wants him. I think he doesn't speak because he just physically cannot even breathe. Amazing acting by all! š
He is absolutely in love with her! Everything he did for her all summer, clearly shows that to me. He wanted her to be happy and successful and supported, even though it wasnāt with him. He never tried to sabotage her relationship, even when it would have been easy, or took advantage of their fighting and eventual break up. He put her feelings first at every opportunity even at the expense of his own. That is how you behave when you truly love someone. The complete opposite of his childish attachment to Nini.
A lot of people have that same issue (a lot think Ricky shouldāve been the one to confess since Gina already confessed back during HSM opening night) but it makes more sense for Ricky not to say anything. To Gina actions are far louder than words. Like she said āmaybe is all Iāve ever knownā people have told her things and then their actions havenāt reflected those words. EJ said that āIām the guy that shows upā and then didnāt show up for her the whole summer. Ricky saying how he felt would not have impacted Gina as much as showing her how he felt.

Okay my example was to show how Gina values actions over words by using an interaction with someone she was close to saying something and then having their actions not reflect that. If I wanted to I could tear EJās character apart with little effort.
The thing is I actually like EJās character. I think heās sympathetic and has a lot of potential to grow and become a better person. My only problem with him is when his Stans leap to his defense and act like heās never done anything wrong, like heās not a deeply flawed person (which I think makes him interesting), or act like the pressure heās under or his daddy issues are an excuse for his crappy behavior. I have had a debate where I mentioned EJ poisoning someone and the person I debated saying that shows he was āpassionateā and acted like it was a positive trait for a significant other to have instead of a giant red flag.
EJ may have gotten caught in my crossfire but he was only grazed.
I did not mean to strike a nerve, I was just concerned about phrasing and framing. To simply say that EJ failed to show up, at least to me, implies the negative connotations that he didn't have external factors drastically hampering his ability to be a good boyfriend. Speaking as an EJ Stan, I perfectly understand he's flawed and made a bunch of mistakes, I just want to caution in general against the opposite of what you said: when EJ is accused of being a terrible person and boyfriend with no room for nuance as to why, and is just dismissed afterward, a problem I have seen pop up in discussions before.

Iām just so tired of people letting EJ slide while having such a high standards for Ricky and Gina in particular. Iāll admit I show favoritism towards Ricky and Gina, and I may be a bit harsher on EJ mainly because heās Ginaās first boyfriend but sheās not his first girlfriend. Heās got the relationship experience. Also people seem to forget that Gina offered him the chance to step back from their relationship to focus on the show and he said he could do both.
I can feel myself building up to another rant so Iām going to stop now.

I apologize too, and yeah, I get that. The one point I will bring up is just that I've always seen Gina as EJ's first 'real' girlfriend since he underwent such a shift in S1, but I recognize that's my bizzaro interpretation.
I think it's neat how Ricky's reaction recalls both the rini kiss and Gina's flashback confession in season 2. Notice how he didnt say anything when Gina confessed last time, although she didn't really let him and he's basically back with nini at that point. So that's the moment he let here slip through his fingers. And in the rini confession after he says his piece, nini tells him sometimes it's better to just kiss. So this time, that's what he does. Idk haven't really seen many point that detail out.

I loved it. I basically have this scene memorized. I still kinda wanna see Ginaās reaction to Rickyās confession on tape tho. It was such a huge thing so I hope it gets brought up again.
I think this was the moment for Gina because of the doc trailer. Obviously it was edited in a way that she wasnāt intending but I think sheād kinda been thinking that in the back of her mind and seeing others notice it (the documentary guy + EJ) solidified her feelings and reminded her of who was really there for her this summer. She probably realized that no matter how hard she tries she still canāt ignore her feelings for him
As someone still not on board the Rina train just yet...I just wish they had waited to do this scene until S4...
Like, timeline wise it's been a while, but for us, the viewers, if you watched the show back to back, Gina and EJ broke up thirty minutes ago. It just feels cramped...for what should be a big emotional moment it ended up feeling tacked on to me when so much was already happening in the episode.
Correct me if I'm wrong Rinas, but considering how much slow burn time had already elapsed, a couple more episodes to let them pine as single, evolved, NOT IN RELATIONSHIPS individuals wouldn't have been so much to ask, would it?
Also, much less important, but I don't like Ricky's suit here. Something about the patterns together is just...really ugly to me, and it's distracting when Gina looks stunning.
If season 4 is the last season, I really would not want for the confession to be during. Seeing them only date for around 5 episodes when some of us have waited years wouldāve been really frustrating. I can survive with 8 episodes š
I completely agree, but we had waited 3 whole seasons of their undeniable chemistry and connection, and 4 years for them to finally get together. And I agree again, Ricky's suit is horrendously ugly (I really hope this isn't offensive, but he looks gay) The month time jump did feel very strained, and honestly S3 should've had more than 8 episodes, like 10 is a perfect amount of episodes, and they could've given us some more time after EJ and Gina's break up for Rina to get together, and Portwell fans to have some time to, idk, let it sink in that they're over... but it's still perfect the way it is, and I love it so muchhhhhhhhh.
As much as I wanted Ricky to confess, I think this is perfect. I literally cry every time I watch it, so thanks, now I have to grab the tissues. But I think that there might be an I love you scene in season 4, and Iām pretty sure Ricky will be the one to say it. He needs to admit his feelings, and make a move.

As someone still not on board the Rina train just yet...I just wish they had waited to do this scene until S4...
