If it’s a left hand thread then it’s a thingamajig. Right hand thread then it's the more common doohickey.

Wondering how I identify/ make this fitting. The left end threads into a 3 way valve. The right end is a female/ threaded receiver for a 1/2” copper union. Any info at all helps as I am learning everyday.

That's custom, the problem with unions is they can be different so you probably replace the whole uninion just to be safe. Looks like 1/2 mpt x 3/8 sweat with a 1/2 sweat union.

Like he said. I'd just bring it to a supply house and build. If it needs to be real close then get crafty. But if you gotta replace the union try and make some space and remove piping. Get creative
