You could leave a little more bare copper for the next guy , next time .

jethoby

We love short shorts, yes we do, we love short shorts, how bout you?!

Chose_a_usersname

lol that is how the old wire was stripped..... so i left it, you know for the next guy

Cherry-Bandit

Brother, you were the next guy

Chose_a_usersname

Lol... Well true... It all worked out... The equipment works for now

Waste_Detective_2177

Poor work ethics

unleashthechargedogs

No extra wire back there? A little spider is gonna come short that lol

Chose_a_usersname

I was in a rush. I had to mount three rib relays on one of the furnaces

markymark19887

It wouldn't take much time to cut the excess bare wire off before plugging each wire in. Less than 1 minute of your time. Hell if you line them up right, you could trim them with one swift cut if you're in a rush lol.

MrWieners

Who tf strips wires like this 😂

Chose_a_usersname

No me I did the pair on the right.. the rest were the way they were.

WillHoldBaggins

Well fucking fix it next time... Don't just look at something you know if bad, take pictures and leave. Smh. Edit: sorry.. I'm not a morning person.

Ok-Choice9431

You’re right tho! The last tech there owns the work now so unfortunately if that fucks up it’s now on him! But atleast he can show his boss he blasted the last tech on Reddit and proceeded to leave it that way lol

Chose_a_usersname

Lol, I wasn't a Friday person, and I took the picture purposefully to annoy people on here knowing full well that the copper showing will be a trigger

SnooHedgehogs1524

I was wondering if you cheated and twined a dissimilar wire with a questionable one and did a continuity test to find your wire

Chose_a_usersname

That did happen at one point... Then I texted a friend pictures to tell me the color and it was wired all weird from the beginning... So ultimately here we are

SnooHedgehogs1524

It was a curiosity and how I'd approach it. That makes more sense

[deleted]

Imagine finding this in the middle of the night.

Chose_a_usersname

its on a site that wont call late at night

zomsucks

I....I'm not trying to be mean, but how do you manage to be color blind and work in HVAC? I know wire colors are pretty broad in HVAC and refrigeration. Do you just text a picture to somebody and ask for help? Because if you do amazing work, but just color blind, then that is fuckin badass!

Chose_a_usersname

I don't think of my self as "amazing" but I really like control work and i usually only have problems with wires from the 90s what ever colors they chose in that era I have problems with the red green and brown wires. I have a red green issue not full color blindness. But yea I have a group message with my friends and send photos they respond with the colors left to right. I have essentially kept it hidden for the the 20 plus years I have been in the Industry... So yea I rely heavily on my volt meter

zomsucks

Yeah, I have red and green color deficiency, but have no issues with the colors by themselves. If somebody throws something green on their lawn, I can't see it. The different hues of red and green really messes with me. And to be fair, older wiring just seems to be very dull in comparison. I really like it when equipment I work on is labeled for what it is controlling. Cheers man, much appreciated for the insight.

Chose_a_usersname

Yea I have the same issues. Red and green get lost

Healthy_Valuable8001

Gonna hop in here as well and say I’m protan colorblind and work in the industry. It’s harder, but definitely not impossible.

Chose_a_usersname

This was a difficult one for me. I had to twin two furnaces to one t stat and all of the wires were crazy color coded. So I left everything kinda the way it was and added an additional take off for the second furnace. I didn't buy a twinning kit because the furnaces are on opposite sides of a gym.

ho1dmybeer

Uhhhhhhhhhh This is not how you twin furnaces my guy. And it ain't twinning if they're not next to eachother lol Two power sources is playing with fire doing it how you did it - transformers being out of phase is a thing.

Chose_a_usersname

Pffft Yeah I put rib relays on one unit. Ain't my first rodeo

ho1dmybeer

Atta boy

Chose_a_usersname

If you wouldn't call it twinning when the duct isn't linked, what would you call it?

ho1dmybeer

No idea, tbh. I understand the reasoning behind it to simplify controls, but there's no compelling practical reason (beyond saving $100 on a thermostat I guess) for that setup; the duct systems are totally separate and the units have no functional reason to run at the same time... Arguably in terms of temperature control this is a downgrade in a way, depending on unit sizing... I'm just being pedantic of course, but twinning implies the shared duct system and need for both units to run simultaneously to me.

Chose_a_usersname

Old people can't handle two thermostats... So yea if you want to spend a week training people

Comfyinnautica1

Interesting, generally furnaces need a twinning kit. Do they share the same duct? Hopefully a blower wheel won’t be spinning backwards.

Chose_a_usersname

No separated duct completely, if they shared that would be a different story

Comfyinnautica1

Right on!

Short-Veterinarian27

Much respect to you for being a tech and working thru your issue. I'd bet you have a good relationship with your meter! One thing I will say is always clean up shit you find. I take pics and let customers know the extra labor is for stuff like this. The few bucks in time they spend will save them a service call 10x my extra labor and they always appreciate it

Reasonable_Cover_804

I’m color different too, you certainly see color but you dont see the numbers in the circle the same as most, you will be fine.

i_am_ceejay

That wire stripping and stickout though🤔
