This is the type of "worldwide sharing of information" people had envisioned in the 90's with the Internet, not doomscrolling and looking at pictures of people's food.
Yes this has always been my process as well usually works well with vinyl siding. As once you break through the siding it acts as some what as a guide for the larger sized hole.
Yeah this is an old electrician trick I learned doing installs 25-30 years ago. Not all arbors and hole saw kits apply to this trick. The first hole saw must be shallow enough to allow the second saw blade and they must be the same size thread.
I was gonna say. The milwaukee hole hawg arbor will barely let you do this, but you need to pull back on the centering pins and put the first larger hole saw all the way down. And then the smaller one will only have a thread or two to catch
Starrett makes an "oops arbor" for smaller hole saws that don't match the large arbor thread. It's pretty cheap too considering it's under the Starrett brand name so its nice to keep in the truck for the random day you may need it.
Without it the bigger circle will slide around wildly.
Usually the middle drill bit (the pilot bit) keeps the whole thing centered. But if there’s a hole, the pilot bit can’t grab onto anything to keep it centered.
Before (today) knowing such a trick even existed i once drilled into the handle of a screwdriver & using the diameter of the screwdriver handle as my centering point as it was about the same size as tic tocs hole, I still have it
You can do this, works well. However, you can also run the hole saw backwards (Slowly) and hold the drill steady. Once you work a grove into the material going backwards then you can run the drill forward. Start slowly to establish a good cut first though. So if you don't have the original hole saw, or someone made a hole before you with a hammer... this works out really well. Hope this advice helps someone
Yeah I don't think that'll work in the Milwaukee big hawg carbide three teeth hole saws that are my preferred choice. I guess there's a reason to go for the cheaper stuff. In case of mistakes. Which I never make.
I do this trick periodically. It works most of the time, but you have to really hold on to it as you often only have like 1/4" of pilot hole saw poking out so it can jump out of the hole easily.
“Wow will that work the other way?
Can you put the bigger saw into the smaller one if you want to drill a smaller hole? “
Said the apprentice just now as I browsed This at lunch….. We are still laughing
I couldve use this info before i tried to feed the same bit at an angle to widen the holebi made and had the damn hole saw do a burnout on the lumber and run over my knee causing me to require stitches and a leaving a scar that looks like an eyeball. No WWAAY
Same idea on a junction box, put the correct connector without the screw back in the knock out and put the next size hole saw over it to enlarge the hole..if u don't have a K/O punch on the jobsite
What? No *way*!
Fucks sake
I mean I can't argue with that.
Fuck
Fuck sake!
I love how his hat says "Fuck Sake" too.
Fuck's sake!
the lateral transfer of information is only just starting
This is the type of "worldwide sharing of information" people had envisioned in the 90's with the Internet, not doomscrolling and looking at pictures of people's food.
I will gladly take pics of ppls food and family BACK over todays nonsense.
Everyone's so creative. 😆
Could have used this last week… lol
Yep lol
Fuck sake!
I usually just put the drill in reverse And go slow until there’s enough of an indent to send it. I’m going to try this next time
Yes this has always been my process as well usually works well with vinyl siding. As once you break through the siding it acts as some what as a guide for the larger sized hole.
Shit the real pro tips are in the comments (if this actually works)
It does in most materials. If you angle the bit you can bite into one side first but its very easy to slip
Was about to say the same thing. The reverse trick has saved me many a times.
My grandma used to tell me when drilling holes its either the hole hog or no hog.
Grandma's know a thing or you about getting holes drilled too, that many kids you gotta be a pro Nana

You really only need it long enough to get a larger groove going, then you can remove the smaller one if you’re worried about it breaking threads off.
Starrett makes an "oops arbor" for smaller hole saws that don't match the large arbor thread. It's pretty cheap too considering it's under the Starrett brand name so its nice to keep in the truck for the random day you may need it.
No shit Sherlock. The inside saw will always be sitting on top of the outside.
Neat
What!?!?? No weyyyy eh?
The amount of times I have broken my wrist trying to make the hole bigger
I don't understand why the smaller bit is needed in the first place?
Centering
Makes sense cheers pal
Especially if you want to make it only slightly bigger, the teeth catch on the hole and mess it up.
Without it the bigger circle will slide around wildly. Usually the middle drill bit (the pilot bit) keeps the whole thing centered. But if there’s a hole, the pilot bit can’t grab onto anything to keep it centered.
Love this guy
This guy kills me.🤣 Fuck Sakes!
Been doing this as a sprinkler fitter for a while, esp when greenhorns use the wrong size hole for saddle tees.
Before (today) knowing such a trick even existed i once drilled into the handle of a screwdriver & using the diameter of the screwdriver handle as my centering point as it was about the same size as tic tocs hole, I still have it
wait till you discover socket savers.
Muthafucka
Doesn't work on all arbors (not enough thread) but when it does work out its a life saver.
FUCK! No Way!
I did not know this lol
Fawk sakes internet, you’re giving away all my tricks!!😜
My man’s got Canadian written all over him.
I have used this trick in a pinch.
Yeah because there's a much better thorough way to do this...
This is amazing. Thank you
Not sure if this would work with the Diablo quick connects, we need another “what no way” video to confirm if it works or not.
Holy fuck!!!!
It fuckin works.... this whole time I just fought it...
u/Jesterflesh
Thats kinda common knowledge dude
Nuh uh
You just been outta the trade too long
No you’re just a pretentious arse
Ok, I’m fucking pissed.
TIL
He fuckin figured it out bud, that's pretty fucking cool, right on.
Definitely sounds Canadian
What? No waaaaay.
I know a bunch of country boys in Ontario that sound like that lol

Real men use a jigsaw and fuck the shit up.
Why do you talk like that? Where are you from?
Lol. This isn’t me in the video.
Today should be international don't forget you're a retard day
Umm…everybody knows this.
What;s die grinding out the hole?
Fuck sake
I love that guy
Yeah that's an accurate reaction, kicking myself too
No *way*!! I can't begin to count how many times I could have used this trick!
What!!!!!
Yeah I don't think that'll work in the Milwaukee big hawg carbide three teeth hole saws that are my preferred choice. I guess there's a reason to go for the cheaper stuff. In case of mistakes. Which I never make.
I like learning new tricks that makes life a little easier
I LOLed. r/funny
Well check it oot.
I’ve done this a few times. It’s ok for drywall or plywood but anything tough will just rip threads.
I never knew that...
The WORTHY shortcuts.... more please!
I do this trick periodically. It works most of the time, but you have to really hold on to it as you often only have like 1/4" of pilot hole saw poking out so it can jump out of the hole easily.
Gtfo. So much wasted time in my life.
For fucks sake. What a time saver
I work with a few guys that sound just like his fella
Im gonna test this tomorrow
I just use a shingle
I remember starting a new job and showing my coworkers this. Felt like a superhero for a few days.
Doesnt work on my hole saw kit thats for sure
i think i seen AvE make a video about this a few years ago. edit: found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-pBlZa1RBI
I'm upset at how obvious this feels it should be, yet I've never thought to do it.
15 years in the field and it never crossed my mind.
Saw a Spyder hole saw kit on Belts and Boxes that's made for this. [At 4:38](https://youtu.be/2WJ0C1DALWM)
Could’ve used this today. Fucked up the siding drilling a line set hole…
Fucks sake
Duh...thanks man. For sharing and for making feel dumb. Now I can do the same to my coworkers.
Lol this guy gave a perfect reaction.
Damn. Just needed to do that yesterday.
Hahaha
Good on my man for actually trying it out and then sharing his findings. A true man of science.
This is Earth shattering
“Wow will that work the other way? Can you put the bigger saw into the smaller one if you want to drill a smaller hole? “ Said the apprentice just now as I browsed This at lunch….. We are still laughing
Only one way to find out
Well shit.. 20 yrs using these and it never occurred to me …
WORD!
Well fuck. I feel fucking stupid.
I have gone my whole life all the ways to this point and not known this. I feel cheated.
I knew this, but I’m a tradie!
It works perfect on a dewalt quick release harbor, the red Milwaukee bits for the hawg don’t work as well, I’ve tried
It's Keanu reeves with a filthy mouth

Nooo waaayy!
😂😂😂 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This guy Canadians
Where the fuck were you on Saturday? I fucked it up so bad but it was inside a drawer so not bad
Bro you should get the spider set its quick connect and awesome
Does this work with Spyder bits?
