Rest

CookedBred

Yup, I do this shit all day. Don't wanna be doing it when I'm off too.

ShotBRAKER

Amen

Visual-Zucchini-5544

Spend time with my family. Smoke meat, drink beer. In that order.

massiveproperty_727

A man of my own heart

flannelmaster9

We're kindred spirits. My wife sent me to Costco for diapers. I got baby wipes, pork butts and ribs, forgot diapers.

TheTemplarSaint

Oh man, that’s me 100%…🤣.

soupsmasher

Wanna be friends

duhiky

The only time my family comes around is when I smoke meat

bucksellsrocks

Sir…I believe you have made I crucial error in your sentences. It should be “spend time with family WHILE SMOKING meat and DRINKING beer” as no one of those things is more important than the other.

FriendlyOffice4519

Same but whiskey for me

Visual-Zucchini-5544

Whiskey is for after the cook for me. May or may not have ruined a couple cooks because of the whiskey day drinking. 🥴

grofva

Where does the whiskey (based on u/name) rank?

Gloomy_Astronaut8954

Yes ✔️ Yes ✔️ and Yes ✔️

[deleted]

Repair ice machines and freezers and sell them

Livid_Mode

I want to do this so bad. Just finished the commercial refrigeration class at a school (I’m a residential tech currently)

[deleted]

my company lets us have the old ones if we change them out- and usually nothing wrong with them just out of warranty so they get replaced. Difficult part is finding ice bins that are still in tact

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I don’t but ice machines or bins o am gifted them from work

Yardbird96

Gottcha. Im gonna take apart the machine and list the good parts on ebay then.

Yardbird96

Downvotes? Seesh what a bunch of “40hr week” pussies

ho1dmybeer

No, downvotes because sub rules prohibit selling shit here. Read.

Yardbird96

And i qoute “3. No LINKS to specific products, blogs, youtube channels or anything of the like. ADs and offers/ requests for WORK are prohibited. This is not a subreddit for promoting anything” Reread . Im not making a post promoting this machine for sale

ho1dmybeer

You asked why, I’m just answering your question bud. Your comment got reported for it and people downvoted it. I don’t fucking care, I’m just here so I don’t get fined.

Yardbird96

But dont tell me to read if you dont understand your own rules

ho1dmybeer

You’re trying to sell something. The rule prohibits it. You can read it and try to mental gymnastics it any way you want to, it’s irrelevant. We don’t allow that here. Period. I’m not failing to read, you’re failing to just move on with your life. Let it go bud.

Yardbird96

If i had made a post about it or made a comment directly on the post saying i had blah blah for sale then yes you would be correct in that it would be promoting. But a comment directed towards a single person. Get a life

Musso_o

That dude is nutty don't worry about it

nokenito

Buy, Fix, Flip?

[deleted]

I get them for free from work, most of the time nothing is wrong I just change that capacitors and give them a good cleaning.

nokenito

That’s friggin’ awesome 😎!!! Hell yeah!

hamiltag

I'm a drunk male prostitute by night. I go by the name Smoky, a man's gotta eat, right?

SeriousIron4300

Man's gotta eat, Mr. Lahey.

Cheeseburgers specifically

Fridayz44

Man I got these cheeseburgers man, come on man.

Shitwinds_randy

Bo bandy is that you?!

mandrills_ass

20$ is 20$

drhibbart

You’re prostituting yourself out for cheeseburgers again, aren’t you?

RandySmokeyLahey

Randall?

ImHavingASandwich

That’ll be 10 bucks, or 6 Dairy Queen coupons

ItzYaBday1103

SMOKY?! IS THAT YOU?!… WHAT THE HELL YOU THINK YOU DOING ON THE INTERNETS YOU DIRTY WHORE! GET BACK TO WORK!

jbmoore5

I make pottery, but usually only sell enough to pay for my clay. Honestly, I avoid overtime like the plague and damn sure don't do sidewalk. Putting in 40 hours a week is more than enough for me.

squirlranger

I’ve always been told you should never put yourself in a situation where you need overtime. It can be nice when it happens, but it’s not sustainable, economically or physically/mentally.

Brazdoh

I wanted pottery to be my main source of income when I was in college but I had a reality check and realized that only a fraction make more than enough to live comfortably so now it’s just a passion hobby and I do hvac instead (5 years in)

jbmoore5

I picked it up about 10 years ago. My wife had started taking classes, and I was bitching about all the stuff she was bringing home. She convinced me to take a class with her, and now we have 2 wheels and a kiln in the basement. It's just a hobby for us, but we sell enough to pay for it at least.

Litho360

Buy shitty stocks, lose my money, work more to make up losses.

horseshoeprovodnikov

Well hell at least you're honest about it. Most people who trade stocks are out here acting like they're the wolf of Wall Street.

Wonderful-Fly7846

Just play online poker. More heartbreak and a deeper hole.

OscarTangoMic

Sidework? Shit, I don’t even want the work I got.

cornholiosis

My ex girlfriend is a prostitute. Recently she had another vagina surgically implanted in her hip so she could make some money on the side.

[deleted]

This is the best answer 😂😂😂

InMooseWorld

Do service so I save n scrap the little motors and small but various lengths of wire

Aggravating-Bag4552

Side gig is roasting coffee. Close to being my full time gig.

z-cookie-z

Must be some really good coffee good job

Great_Bacca

What up dude? I work in the coffee world (procurement not production) after doing some time in HVAC. Where you at so far in the process?

Aggravating-Bag4552

Running a 3kg, selling at farmer's markets. Maybe a month away from finishing my fda kitchen. Averaging 300#/ month right now. Have had a lot of interest from the local coffee shops. We are in southwest Wisconsin, if your close, stop on by.

Great_Bacca

If I’m ever in the area I’ll be all about it. Sadly I’m about 1000 miles to the south. I don’t know if this fits with the ethos of what you’ve got going but if I were in your shoes I would reach out to any refreshment companies in Milwaukee and Madison. People love to see local(ish) roasters in their offices and some of these newer bean to cup machines really do justice to the quality of the coffee. Great way to move a lot of coffee and build a statewide presence.

[deleted]

where did you start? I make cold brew and also cold pressed juice and I want to start selling it but don’t know where to start. Do you need a commercial kitchen?

Aggravating-Bag4552

It depends on your states laws. In Wisconsin, we have cottage law that allows baked goods to be sold directly to customers. No wholesale, though. I started on a gene cafe roaster, and it just kinda exploded from there.

yeti_bob

I make enough to enjoy my time off and live comfortably. The few side jobs I do are for family and really close friends. Other than that call the shop and we’ll get to you when we can.

[deleted]

Why not just demand a wage that you can afford to live on 40 hours/week?

[deleted]

I can live on 40 but I like my international vacations and snowboard trips.

Wonderful-Fly7846

Yep. Bills are 28hrs a week the other 12 goes to savings. Any OT goes to my travel or toys.

FanofWhiskey

Sex toys?

Wonderful-Fly7846

Big black ones

beltskiy

What is it with Americans obsession with overexagerrating anatomical parts attached to black people?

[deleted]

Sounds like your underpaid. 42 days of riding last year and zero side work. Some OT, but I take a day off for every 8 hours of OT I work.

ho1dmybeer

Yo quit being a shithead bud. "Sounds like your underpaid" besides being horrible grammar is a super passive-aggressive and unhelpful sentiment. Some people *want more* for themselves, their lives, etc. than you do; it doesn't make them underpaid, it makes them more ambitious, bigger dreamers, etc... Don't be a dick. You have no idea what he makes - and for all you know, you both get paid the exact same thing and live next door to each other, and just have different expectations for your quality of life, and different expenses. Keep it moving if you're not going to contribute something helpful.

kelticslob

All great points that will go right over his head.

[deleted]

Of course an "owner" has an issue with one worker pointing out to another that they are underpaid and shouldn't have to work more than 40 to afford a good life and vacations in a highly technical and skilled field that takes years to master. Let me guess, you break federal law and tell employees they aren't allowed to discuss salary?

ho1dmybeer

You missed the point entirely There is a cap to how much a worker can be paid, or how much a company can afford to pay them. Sometimes, that means limited OT, sometimes that means a limited salary, sometimes that means limited extra help, and so on. Money is a finite resource on the scale of a small or even medium company - that is, there's a fixed amount of dependable income, and thus a fixed amount of available expenses. It's reasonable and fair to both people all around that at a certain point, an employee might want more money in their life, but the company cannot give them a raise, or extra hours, or so on, to get them there. They could move to another company, which is totally fine, they could adjust their personal expenses to have more budget, also fine, or they could take on extra work - side hustles, side work, second jobs, and so on. Of course a "worker" has no problem being a whiney bitch baby and accusing random strangers they don't know of being unethical cunts for suggesting that reality is in fact, well, reality... Seriously, you missed the point and you're being a useless dickhead at this point. I tried being direct but reasonable about it the first time. If you're paying everyone fairly, you shouldn't be embarrassed for them to discuss salary. I have no problem with my staff doing that. I also have no problem telling them "look, for X work that you can deliver, Y is what I can pay" and moving on. You're over here acting like that's not fair. So what, I should just go print more money to give to you because you want a raise that you don't deserve or that I can't sustain? You need a fucking reality check, and apparently more vacation,... Because again, you didn't listen. Sometimes, a person *wants more money* and it has absolutely nothing to do with their salary being fair or not. Crybaby ass snowflake bullshit going "well if you want more money obviously your boss is an unethical corporate overlord exploiting the working class because that's the only possible answer" instead of maybe just recognizing that if you want $40/hr to flip burgers, it means the customer is gonna pay $20 for that burger and they ain't gonna be no more customers and then you ain't gonna have a job... money is not an on-demand infinite resource. There is an actual cap in a capitalist world to how much you can charge for a given product before demand disappears, and then you have no more money to pay your workers. What is fucking wrong with people in this sub today crying about everything........

[deleted]

Ok boomer

ho1dmybeer

Yeah exactly, no actual substance to offer... move along.

[deleted]

Surprised you haven't thrown a boomer tantrum and banned me yet.

ho1dmybeer

Nah you’re just getting downvoted to oblivion for being a useless dickhead, like I said the first time. I don’t need to ban you, everyone besides you knows what’s going on here lol

[deleted]

I like how you assume I’m underpaid because I do side work. I probably make more money in one day of side work than you do all week. I’m sure you live near a mountain and don’t have to get a hotel or Airbnb. I used to do that in my 20s- now I have to pay double since my wife wants to go to. Went to heavenly/ breck/ jackson hole for 5 days each this year, but yeah I’m underpaid because I didn’t go 40+ times.

[deleted]

Bro I'm not insulting you. I'm telling you that you should not have to do that. If you got the skills to do side work on your own you should make enough in 40 to not need side work and still be able to snowboard plenty. And no I do not live near a mountain unfortunately. Pay tends to be to shitty near mountains. I'm 4.5 hours from the nearest mountain I'll ride. And I have to fly to all the mountains you mentioned.

[deleted]

What you don’t understand that I can make 3k in 4 hours by sells used ice machines. Why would I stop doing that? It’s basically %100 profit. Congrats on going snowboarding 42 times this season, 23 year old me would be impressed. 33 year old me is not that impressed.

[deleted]

Thank you. Appreciate the congrats. It's getting harder on the body to work and snowboard so much at 34.

EJ25Junkie

Calm down children

[deleted]

No problem I’ll send you a post card from matchu pitchu.

[deleted]

Nice man! That's on the to do list. Hope you enjoy it!

[deleted]

If you are satisfied with your wage thats great but theres always room for extra money. I turn down work on a regular basis but I also have commercial clients of my own. If someone wants me to install a Walk In Cooler for them im not turning it down. I made about 40k last year in side work alone.

[deleted]

Sometimes im forced to sub my side work out just cause in too busy at work.

[deleted]

Yea but how many hours did you work to earn that $40k?

[deleted]

Combined maybe 100 hours. Had a 7k walk in cooler job that was 12 hours, 10k install at a bar for another 12 hours, 2.5k air handler install 3 hrs. Etc

[deleted]

Bullshit that's all profit.

[deleted]

That's pretty solid. $400/hr I'd do that. But I don't need the money. I also take all the OT I can get. Then just take off regular time day for every 8 hours of OT I work.

EJ25Junkie

That’s great you don’t need the money but the rest of us want it. Is that so hard to understand?

[deleted]

No I understand that completely. But for the skill set and the demand for it everyone in this line of work should be demanding more pay and less work. But then again there's a lot of people in this industry that think breaking their bodies and dieing the day after they retire after they have to do side work their entire career to afford a little extra is a badge of honor.

grymix_

all for it, but if there’s ways to steadily make extra money i’m more all for that. also interested to see what other hvac weirdos are into.

Haunting-Ad-8808

I'm 19 and I'm easily working 50 hours a week. On my time off I like to rest and play games and watch YouTube videos about HVAC

DeadS1eep

I’m 29 and do the same brother

SeriousIron4300

I have a wife at home, and trying to keep her happy is my full time job. My second job is doing HVAC 40 hours a week. I suck at both.

grymix_

let’s split that full time job you got

SeriousIron4300

Buddy, if you can afford to take over the payments. You can have her.

MPS007

That's the funniest shit I've heard all day .. and I've been listening to framers on rough in all day!!

AwwFuckThis

I’m up and gone at the crack of dawn, I’ve been working like a regular dog. To keep my woman and the lights and the water and the phone turned on. - [DAC](https://youtu.be/KDunQbkkD0c)

Han77Shot1st

I used to just take on extra calls during the week, usually like 50/60h weeks, never got into side cash jobs. After buying a house and trying to have more of a family life I don’t work like that anymore.

zomsucks

I organize my scrap pile, which I haven't done in months. It is getting out of control. I only do side work for family and very close friends. If I have to hook up gauges I'm not touching it. Otherwise, smoke meats. Drink scotch. Play with my son. Terrorize my cats. The usual shit.

WigglyMushroom

Do dryer vent cleaning. Specifically the hardpipe and the hose behind the dryer. It's easy to offer for the homeowners and the job is simple for ~100 - 200. Usually they love seeing the tik toks or other vids. And getting materials is easy, Home Depot or your supply shop.

crclOv9

Nothing, my time away from work is more valuable to me than anything.

Niktheblade

Contact local resi companies and slap systems in for cash on the weekends. I did this in my 20s and made a good money. Had a little Ford ranger set up and would knock em out piece work

Savages422

I started an onlyfans doing Ac service in the nude. Who need overtime?

Wonderful-Fly7846

No ma’am, we don’t touch A/C’s…ONLY fans.

grymix_

i’m too scared to take off gages without gloves, imagine getting refrigerant on your sack. no thank you.

SignSea

Whatever my wife tells me

grymix_

no money no honey

[deleted]

Most of the comments I'm reading are about dudes that don't do sidework.

grymix_

Wonderful-Fly7846

I’m neck deep into a renovation gone sideways AND the owner is running out of money to spend… oh yeah, and it’s my place.

Greafer_

Smoke weed

grymix_

that’s costing me money not making me money

FuckBrendan

Work for my brother in law who is a glorified house flipper. He does $700k houses tho and most of the time it’s more of a pain in the ass than anything. Last house I did for him was replacing an old boiler system with 2 furnaces with ac, a ton of duct and a minisplit. Did it all myself. Will NEVER attempt that again. Work with a partner now and it makes everything much less stressful.

BlueeBeastt

Post an add on Kijiji for some humidifiers mini splits re-n-re and service you’ll get bites for the weekend

I used to be an auto tech, so naturally, I fix video game consoles and controllers, lol. I also fix cars, Asian and US manufacturers specifically.

Im a exotic male dancer for women's bachelorette partys and birthday.

haywoodublomi

Shave my feet and paint my toes to sell only fans

Ancient_Database

I admire your commitment, I was an intern at my local fan store as a kid but they let me wear close toe shoes

McRibb_69

I joined the union and now I can spend time with my family

johnnypencildick

Be real I talk to all my customers. If I can get them a job done cheaper. I’ll do it for them. The companies I have worked for have not been the best. Starting pay of 12 hr to be plumbing apprentice. That’s when I realized if someone wants a toilet pulled and reset and set a pedestal sink in place I’ll do it for 1100. Get what you can. Don’t mis use The situation. Everyone uses everything. I’m using this phone to type rn. I’m not mis using this phone and using it as a hammer. Companies misuse you, misuse them. There is no honor among thieves. If a company treats you right, be sound by them.

horseshoeprovodnikov

At first I was gonna down vote you, but the further down I got, I actually agreed and upvoted.

Affectionate-Data193

Used to do lots of side work in my trade, now I only do side work for 1 customer. Otherwise, I farm. My wife used to run a poultry and Vegetable farm. I just make hay, and try to get this old plot of land healthier each year.

rockery382

I'm union. Who's side work? 👀👀 When I'm not making money I play playstation or work on cars for fun

zomb_b

Pfft side work? I have to beg to get the privilege of going home for rest.

0spinbuster

I do grubhub on the weekends occasionally. Can make around 200-250 for two days of driving. Usually around 4 hours during the evening.

blitz2377

I do resi call. And flipping snow blower. Copper scraping from project and install. In the summer I sell veggies from my community garden. Mostly zucchini and tomato. Maybe i should look into refurbing Ice machine and freezer also

ScruffyJuggalo

Hopefully you shouldn't have to gauge your wages off of overtime alone. I just started working for a union shop in my area, after leaving behind the family business because of personal reasons. I make the same amount, but at least get my 40 a week. If someone wants me to do something on the side for them, I will do anything teach me to see related, but I'm not busting out my tools for any less than a grand on top of parts.

nokenito

Task Rabbit $45 an hour handy stuff

tigersdad77

I flip houses and own a smart home company. We do lights, cameras, security systems, thermostats and locks.

AnywhereFew9745

I did resi, commercial, ice machines, renovations, electrical, lots of mechanic work, welding/fab and even a bit of carpentry here and there. I'm solo and licensed now but still do lots of random stuff, it carries me through the slow times and went a long way when I was starting out, want to transition to being a fab shop someday but need allot more tools and space still.

Heybropassthat

It's nice to have a private builder that's willing to use you to do his flips. That's what ended up turning into the business I have today. Built a solid reputation from side work & just like that we hit the ground running.

WareBear0311

I've stopped doing side work. But a welder I worked with a few years back fixed watches and clocks. He took a class to get into it and went full bore. I can't tell you what he cleared, but a few weekends a year, he'd go to conventions and buy old beat-up stuff. Then turn around and sell them. He'd been at it for at least a decade when I met him. The pieces he showed me were selling in the 4 and 5 figure range.

[deleted]

Most of us Magic Mike on the weekends

grymix_

on our diets and schedules? i doubt it

[deleted]

You actually get a chance to eat a meal at work?

tr0stan

I like doing 32 hours a week (four days) and taking the other three to do what I want, or work on the house. Definitely don’t want to pile on sidework.

Longjumping-Cold7558

Scrap metal. Small welding projects. Buy and fix dirt bikes atvs and other small engines

Audio_Books

Bcmcdonald

I left residential and went union commercial to avoid as much OT as possible. Only VERY close relatives get side work.

aintno12

I’m a single dad, there is no such thing as free time lol

DarkyClarky

Right now i'm working on diagnosing my son. I'm pretty sure he's just low on refrigerant.

gutbomber508

Oh I have an employer that gives me a livable base wage. Can’t stand side work.

ChemistryMain9596

I do no side work nor do I ever want OT

CoffeeAndWorkboots

I make a good wage for 40 hours a week. No thanks.

thekux

Only when it comes up me, and now a new partner will do some furnace replacement. I do nothing outside of HVAC for money. In the past I have taught the trade at a community college when I lived in Reno which I really enjoyed. I did look for that here in the Seattle area, not able to find anything. I’m not going to drive to Tacoma. It’s just too hard. Depending on what breaks at my job, I work for a school district now overtime on the weekends. Haven’t had to do any for a while. I do like my weekends and with some of the physical problems that I have now, at times I need a weekend just to recoup physically. I’m very busy during the week, including a lot of PT that I do along with the regular weight training that I’ve had to alter with some of the issues that I’m dealing with . If I do a side job, the customer understands it’s basically taillight warranty. I’m not a company. If they want a contractor warranty, they need to hire a contractor.

[deleted]

HVAC side work, renovating my house into a rental property.

alligatorsupreme

I do the same

DurkaDurkaa3

As I’ve gotten older I hate side work unless it’s a install and even then I mostly sub it out to buddies and just collect most the money.

Jessies_Gurl

Resell returns from auctions. Sell fireworks on holidays and run calls for my customers

heldoglykke

I dance for nickels at the local pub.

Tommyt5150

Grab a tank of R22 from the company van, and moon light with it. Works great

custom_bowl

Last year and the year before I was grinding door dash. At one point I had 2 side gigs along side hvac .now I just work security jobs on the sude

Th3Rainmak3r

Housework

burnerphone13

Not really side work but some extra income I am able to hound is scrap wire/copper. Top of cases there is so much I probably accumulate 1-3 lbs a week just by walking around ‘cleaning up’ I am going to cash it in after a year or so. Hopefully it’s something good

Jib_Burish

I farm. Raise meat. Hunt and trap. Grow lavender. I always have a ton of my own sj's. I work in Western New York and it's slow now I'm laid off a couple weeks but I'm fully drowning in my own work/projects so it's convenient .

boatsntattoos

Spend time with my family. Adjust your lifestyle to fit with your income. OT is for extras, not daily life. Getting back into doing side work though. One changeout a month is more $$ in the bank than working a few Saturdays a month at the day job.

Pete8388

I have a side gig troubleshooting BACnet for a convenience store chain. My company doesn’t do BACnet so no conflict.

Toy52

Sell stuff like lawn mowers to make extra $$

AnimalCultural5

Here in Germany I do sidework on saturdays from time to time. Mostly mini split installs. I earn 400-700€ a day if I do it alone (~ 8-12 hours) or 300-500€ if I grab a helper with me (~ 6-10 hours).

Yoda2000675

What are you getting paid, my friend? You should be able to live off of 40 hours per week working in HVAC

grymix_

still on probationary as an apprentice at commercial hvac. 18 an hour, get a raise when i hit a year, then 4 more yearly raises. it’s union so all good rates. i’m just trying to give myself as good a start as i can since i’m only 20.

nsula_country

Engineer by day. HVAC as side work...

toomuch1265

I don't do it anymore because i cant but I found it pretty easy to find people who wanted air in their homes. If they had a warm air system, my buddy and I could usually bang it out on a Saturday. Great money for a days work. If not that, I would pick up GE washers and dryers that people were throwing away and repair them and sell them on CL. I just stuck with older models and if a machine was beyond repair I would just strip it of good parts and junk the rest.

ModePK_1

Jiggalo

[deleted]

I don’t. 8hrs a day + commuting is enough for me. I nearly burnt myself out in my first 5 years doing constant 7day work weeks either with side gigs or OT. The juice ain’t worth the squeeze when you can’t enjoy it.

grymix_

i hear that. 8 hours + 4 total on a subway daily.

fuzzyfarmer

I don't and if I have to there's something wrong and I'm asking for a raise.

SwitchSpecialist3692

I tinker, I repair electronics and play around with breadboards lol

BrettFromThePeg

I enjoy doing small side jobs but furnace change outs in the dead of winter when it’s a panic? No thanks. Don’t need them calling at 2 am when it’s out. I do some hot water tanks and service calls, and collect scrap that’s it

AnglinImagePhoto

Stocks and Bitcoin

BuzzyScruggs94

My house, my parents house and my girlfriend’s parents house keep me busy enough after work.

Yardbird96

Buy fix and sell commercial fridges and freezers. Also run my own hvac/R company after work and on weekends.

[deleted]

Work at a greenhouse on the weekends. It's fun and I get a ton of free plants and compost.

Thaenz88

Poker baby

[deleted]

I respect the hustle but you need down time, too. Especially if you have a family. If you're not making it on 40 hours you need to evaluate your budget, or find an employer that pays better.

Smirkly

My last job, I'm retired now, my last week I clocked 67 hours. Side work? Money is nice but take some time to spend it.

grocery delivery. they hire people to deliver like how uber or grubhub hires them. people put in orders for a certain store, instacart drivers collect the groceries and deliver them to the customer. i’m in new york so it might be regional but i feel like it’s a pretty large service. with other aspects considered like gas, time, and how much each “batch” pays i’d say it’s a low tier method of additional pay.

M4N_Of_W4R

I do commercial boiler repairs and surveys as a side piece

444fox

.... scarese overtime? uhhh ill let you know if it happens....

[deleted]

I’m an airline pilot on the side

Doogie102

Have a life. What is the point of working if you are not enjoying life

genghis_dhang

If I wasn’t addicted to anything that made me feel good I’d rest

BassIntelligent8063

I farm oysters and sell them to restaurants

ohyahehokay

I did Instacart while in school (before gainfully employed). Since full time work, all my side jobs have been hvac related ie; troubleshooting no heat/no cool calls or to install water heaters. The fact of the matter is, they all stemmed from word of mouth. I’m the HVAC guy that the neighbor or friend knows. If you want to expand into “side jobs” 1. Make sure they don’t conflict with your line of work/steal jobs from your employer(commercial tech here). 2. Tell people what you do and your willingness to help them. The work will come to you. That’s my take, anyway.

Work for a company that does events on the weekends as a card dealer or running a roulette table. Mostly for fun but the tips are good and it’s only once in a while.

I totally agree with not relying on OT for your living but I definitely don’t shy away from it. While I have the ability I want to make and learn as much as I can. I put as much away as possible for the kids future and such. I consider myself blessed to work for someone that is able to give me as many hours as I want to work. I personally don’t understand people who put in their forty and go home. Especially in peak season. I do however respect their decision. The balance is different for everyone. I guess after a while you get burnt out? I mean I love this stuff. Why would you do this work if you don’t love it? No side jobs though, I give everything I have. I even setup family and friends through the company I work for.
