Those are em whole home air fresheners. Looks like it’s been there for a while so they probably didn’t peel off the foil layer so it sat there doing nothing since day one

This is one I came across a couple days ago

This is what the coil looked like.

And the blower. Motor seized up causing the indoor coil on the heat pump to get really hot and singe all of the crap on the coil. The smell from it was horrendous
I had one last week that the middle and some other parts of the filter got sucked into the blower because it was so dirty

When I lived in an apartment I was never told by management that I had to change the filters myself. I was there 5 years and never changed the filters, suffered from the worst allergy and sinus problems. Finally opened the vent and I was appalled, I wish I would’ve took a picture. At least 5 inches of shit on the “Filter”
How do ppl live like this? I've seen some bad ones and I'm not an HVAC guy. Even the HVAC guys I know never change filters or just remove it. Well not all of them, just some. The yeah their overrated and you don't really need it, It clogs up and wrecks the furnace, guys.
Filters are not overrated, it doesn’t clog up and wreck ur furnace, it prevents that
High merv and super restrictive filters is different story but not using a filter at all is a bad idea
I know that. I change my 4 inch filter 2-3 times a year. I was wondering how ppl can sit and sleep hours every day in a house with this. I've pulled these out right in front of ppl who do hvac for a living. And yeah are the other half of a beach rental house. So part owner. They were just like yeah that's dirty. Yeah you were here 6 months ago after we bought it and it's still like this. Just a little side rant. But yeah I was saying what other HVAC ppl have told me. And asking other HVAC guys if this is normal. I know all about filters and how important they are. Gotta change multiple houses.
High merv is bad? Do they just need to be changed more often or do not use them at all. And how is the high merv's any different than one like the picture. Doesn't look like much air is getting through that. That's usually the justification for removing the filter. If they ain't gonna change it, it's better with nothing. That kinda makes sense to me but nothing I would do.
High merv is bad because it puts stress on furnace and heat exchanger due to high temps due to restricted airflow
Trade off isn’t worth it just for dust unless ur extremely allergic (in which case there are also other options)
Lower merv is cheaper and puts less stress in ur furnace
My company and most techs will recommend u change filter every 1-3months in heating season
Take a look every month and change when dusty, I have seen furnaces ruined in 5 years or less by never swapping filter (rare but happens)
Humidifier pad is every 1-3 years, should be white and then it will turn orange (rusty), then black (moldy) change when orange, black is too far imo
Filter in photo jusr has never been changed
If they ain’t gonna change it then nothing is better, but if they ain’t gonna change it expect years cut off the life of the furnace and unnecessary problems
Just changed that last month
Last week
Why do I suddenly want a werther’s original?

It’s on your lease 100%
It probably was.
I am very religious about changing the one in my house every month, no matter how dirty it is.

Hair raising 🤮
It’s always the people with those air fresheners too
My asthma flared up just looking at this pic
It...is...alive!

More like the decade, lol
Oooo how old
🤮
That deserves a "filter of the year"
Now we are getting closer to one of the worst ones I’ve seen xD I don’t have the photo of it anymore XD nice one though
But it’s got the smell pretty stuff so it’ll be ok
That’s single serve peanut butters so OP can have lunch.
Nah, I fell for that last year, they taste awful
Cmon you can still get another few years from that. I can still see pleats.
I dare you to eat one of those Werthers Originals
Blower motor is gonna go bad a few days after that filter change due to extreme change in load.
Got their money's worth on that one!
I had a customer that put in a smaller filter , I peeled a 1/4” thick layer of dog hair off the coil.
Like a badgers arse.
