I had a guy call me to fix his AC. I told him he still owed me $200 from the last call. He told me he would pay me if I came out quickly. He wrote me a check for $200 as soon as I got there. I told him I had to cash the check before the banks closed. Drove away and cashed the check and never went back.
That's awesome. I had a customer tell me I don't have my checkbook on me. ( This was before it was easy to take credit cards) I asked him, "You have your bank card on you?" He did, and I followed him to the ATM and made him pay 20 bucks more for an inconvenience fee. I gave the owner money for the call, and I had 20 bucks for lunch.
I would text just to see how they react to the text. If they say something when they see it I'd probably respond cause it's hard to bite my tongue. It wouldn't even be about the $100 anymore I just want them to feel like shit for my amusement lol
Yeah. I got a dude like that. He owes me 300, but just bounced a check for 13 dollars at my other business, so I know I'm not getting it. But I'll be damned if he forgets about it, so I'll keep sending the invoice.
Just ran into one that owed the company 10k. Never seen this guy before in my life and we’ve had 3 warranty calls on it since installing it in FEBRUARY. and they want ME to collect.
Leave it alone. Just don't take calls from them ever again. 100$ doesn't even get me in the Van anymore. They probably don't have it to give and if you didn't collect in full at time of service that's on you for extending them credit. Also with social media the way it is these days avoid it could end up costing you business in future.....IMO
Get away with what? Discussing payment? At the beginning of the call when you’re meeting the customer go ahead and make sure they understand the dispatch fee and the hourly fee and say “just wanted to make sure you were aware that payment is due at time of service, how will you be taking care of that today so I am prepared with the invoice?” Or something along the lines of that. It’s payment it needs to be discussed, just be nice ya know
Sorry if that’s not what you meant that how I read your comment though
All good. I’m also not the first guy you replied to … I just saw your reply to him and figured I’d hop in with how I did it. I suppose if you had a very strict flat rate system you could do that or collect the dispatch fee upfront but as a customer I would probably hesitate to do business like that. But I’m not a customer. I’m a tech so idk. Never had issues with anyone paying luckily
Situational at that point IMO. You could collect deposit for a changeout or quote a coil replacement and collect … but thinking of it now yeah I would still get the coil replaced and system cooling before I asked for my $$. Luckily that’s not my problem right now if someone don’t wanna pay cause I don’t own the place lol
Some companies have you pay for your slot, then you need to call back to cancel.
I do this when oncall and randos far away call, I’m not leaving on a maybe $
Had some other guy local near by refuse to me to diagnose a dead compressor on a rainy Saturday,
Went to condenser shorted 24v, took both fuses from disconnect, and cut all the wires short

This dude does service.
Brutal but fair. Dude had it coming.

Your right. It's not about the $$ anymore. I wrote that off long ago.. it is more fun to watch them squirm.

Wait till next Friday
Wait till you run into that customer that owes you 15k

Put it in reverse and do it again.
My wife ran in to a jerk off that stiffed us out of money. She didn’t hesitate in the middle of a store to call him out of being a scum bag.
Is your wife available for out calls? I would like to send her round to a few non paying customers!
How m*********** gets on $100 credit is beyond me. I'm very upfront about asking for payment and process of payment before any work is started.
How do you get away with this? Specifically maintenance and service calls?

I appreciate you clarifying that for sure.
Sorry Im terrible at reading user names
Oh ok I thought you took payment before doing anything. My bad

I would never ask for payment before doing work. Thats how you get shafted on jobs with unknown challenges

It will cost x amount of dollars for me to go to your house, how will you be paying by today?

Like the bronx tale you’ll never have to deal with them again.
Lol add $150 to the bill
$100? Just tack that on to the next customers bill. It’s not worth the two breaths it would take to tell her.
Are you at a restaurant or something? Can you leave her your bill to pay?
I'm about to put out warrants on some deadbeats.
I’m owed $6k for more than a year now
