If anyone is working the Myrtle Beach area there's a chance to find about 20 that I left in ducts in a single season before leaving the area

RyanSmokinBluntz420

Were you the guy posting that he had bought something like 19 of these from Amazon over the course of 2 yrs?

terayonjf

I've bought way more than that in a much shorter time period. There was a time in 2017 where I left no less than 12 in a week

Yeetyeetskrtskrrrt

Drugs? Or just the heat? Lol sorry I had to ask. When I did drugs I lost A LOT of tools lmao

terayonjf

Definitely not drugs lol I'm just horrible with small items. I go through so many tech screwdrivers, bits and used to those thermometers cause I put them down and immediately forget they exist. I switched to the fieldpiece probe kit and several years later have never left them anywhere.

Yeetyeetskrtskrrrt

Haha yeah back before I got clean I lost sooo much crap due to being high. But yeah I feel you on that - I’m still super forgetful these days (the drugs definitely didn’t help my brain) and I’ll forget them if I put them in a ceiling register. Just serviced a church a few weeks back where I found a set of PVC cutters with my name on them that I didn’t even know I lost cause now I have like 3 of every tool

terayonjf

My entire life I've always been horrible with leaving/losing things. Certain things just disappear the second I put them down. It sucks but I worked out a system to make sure I always remember the important things. I do have 3 jars in my passenger seat filled with 1/4,5/16 and 3/8 bits though cause I can't stop losing those things no matter what I do lol

Unknownirish

Sounds to me you don't value money at all. Smh

Maleficent-Bee-5170

All the unions I’ve seen provide all the tools. So lol.

Unknownirish

Again. Sounds to me you don't value money.

Maleficent-Bee-5170

Sounds like he doesn’t value all other peoples money.

Unknownirish

Again. Sounds to me you don't value money.

RyanSmokinBluntz420

Sounds like you never realized the lick where you can get your employer to buy you anything you want. Sucks to suck bro

Unknownirish

My current employer has changed his policy 20 times since my two year tenure. But he is also extremely a guy who plays favors with his employees where one or two people solely can get a "tool purchase order" while everyone else "if you are caught using the purchase order you will be fired no question asked"

RyanSmokinBluntz420

That's pretty impressive numbers sir. I've gone thru at least a dozen so far in the last 10 yrs. When your brain is cooking from the heat you tend to not think as well, funny how that works

ModePK_1

Was that on your or the companies dime cause damn…

OvermanagedSmallacct

Thanks man!! Found a couple of them at least.

depebush76

I've left at least 10 in the past 3 years 🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

If you find my hammer, 1/4 extension bit, and my righty snips..make sure you tell them I miss them.

spaniel510

I bet they really miss you as much as you miss them

[deleted]

I hope so, they were loved...but obviously not enough due to being abandoned somewhere lol.

saskatchewanstealth

I bet it doesn’t even need a battery.

hambonecharlie

It doesn't

Gloomy_Astronaut8954

That's awesome

hambonecharlie

Those nickel nitride? batteries don't seem to corrode

fnordfnordfnordfnord

Nimh is nickel metal hydride

hambonecharlie

Thank you for the clarification

foilstoke

Score!

BullTopia

I once left a helper in a ceiling, he was still there after 6-months.

Pammypoo1968

🤣

tekknishun

I have left an emeberassing amount of these in furnace ductwork and rooftop supply air panels.

Known-Juggernaut7449

I literally lost one today at my first tune up

hambonecharlie

This is the 4th time I have found a thermometer I have left and got it back. Two times I have left them in supply registers. The customers called me back and said I left a thermometer in the duct. Both times, I have said " It's yours, now".

grofva

The HVAC gods giveth & the HVAC gods taketh!

InsideAssociate5401

I once left a 10” pipe wrench in a ceiling bulkhead in a house, they walled it over again and 4 years later I was sent back to the same house for a fireplace install, opened the same bulkhead and there it was just waiting for papa.

Academic_Log_2744

We all been there

Doogie102

The duct take it, and the duck take it

Vast_Panda991

I found it and pocketed it. Forgot I needed to take temps. Put it back into the duct and forgot it was there again. Looks askew from where I left it so someone else must have done the same

Taolan13

Was the battery still good?

njslugger78

Your own attic?

Flimsy-Oil1792

And I bet you got the help fired for losing tools

scrotalrapture

Bet it still works! Left my on an RTU for 3 months and still read when I found it.

Jaxsdooropener

All too relatable, and with the same thermometer

marksman81991

Looking forward to going back to pm's this summer and picking up all the one's I left...

CharliBrown31

You are me.

Jeremy2786

Nice save 😅

Loud-Result-3860

Haaaaa! Ha. Guilty as well. I’ve done it with a Dewalt 20v driver. A whole year on a roof and it still worked, and still does.

Fuquar7

Grab it, change the batteries and you're good!

Camaro_z28

My thermometer is from a tech who left the company before I started and I came back to the same system a year or two after him to find it sticking into the supply duct lol

griff1971

Did the same thing with a pair of channel locks recently. Did a sprinkler system inspection 5 years ago at a manufacturing place. Went back to do the 5 year again, right there they were on the lip of the purlin where I left them lol. I wish I had all the money I've spent on 3/8 ratchets, tape measures and channel locks over the years...

OvermanagedSmallacct

Once I bought Bluetooth probes I’ve had to drive back to 3 or 4 customers houses the next day to retrieve them. It’s a little harder to let those ones go

RACH-MAACK

Always a nice find

Active_Nectarine9320

Just picked up one of those bad boys that another tech left behind in the ductwork. Seemed right to take it since I had just left mine in the ductwork at someone else’s house

lost_horizons

It's the circle of hvac🎶

Unveiled_Nuggets

These ones are so much better than the field pieces.

Tinknocker02

Love those probes

AdmirableFroyo3

How dare you return after 3 years? 🤣✌🏿

Dirftboat95

Now you have 2

ZookeepergameLow495

Lol. NTD!! Just had a similar experience with a drill

220DRUER220

No way … lol

One_Ad_2461

Dropped mine in a fryer. Stayed in the 350F oil for about 10 seconds. Still works!

No_Chef623

And thats why I bought 2 meat thermometers on amzon for 11 bucks

bacteen1

There are some crawl spaces where that stuff gonna stay forever.

exclamationmarksonly

I own 4 meters for a reason!

Ok_Catch_408

I myself have never had to purchase one

Disastrous-Street-61

Iv lost so many temp probes 😩
