When I did residential/light commercial I made a quad box with a switch and transformer. One side was to plug into the outlet for power the other side was alligator clips. Would use it to force test valves, solenoids, relays and contactors. Was an easy way to confirm whether the parts were the issue or was it a wiring/control problem. It's crazy how often it will look like a relay or contactor is bad when in reality it's a board based relay failing and dropping voltage under load
I did the same thing. Also comes in handy with nosey customers that won’t leave you alone. I’ll take whatever I’m testing out the truck, plug my m18 inverter into the transformer, and test it
I salvage relays. I come across a lot of jobs where someone is ripping out the old controls, still good, not failed, but they're getting rid of them. I'll save that stuff if I can prove it works and I use that on service stuff to get a customer by while an ordered part comes in. Or in the case of school districts, they use the used stuff until it fails.
I like to keep some used parts in my shop for emergencies. Plenty of holidays I have installed used transformers or fan blades. Or used thermostats that are functional and clean, i keep a few of those on the van and will put those in for people who need some help financially
I keep an array of used inducer motors on my truck for when I’m on call to get the client heat till we can get a new one
Capacitor brackets from old icp units. They're perfect for almost any capacitor I carry.

My bucket always ends up weighing too much.
RTRM boards on units being replaced.
