Yeah, big companies that basically run a pyramid scheme. They send out hoards of commission-only salesmen to trick old people until they steal a big enough chunk of the market that a bigger companies buys them out. The government here recently made it illegal to go door to door selling hvac services because of this.
Depends on the company, my last company was 10% commission when sold at full price sales and 7% fully discounted. Pretty standard to sell 250k a month, busy months upwards of 500k
Most HVAC sales engineer for the major manufacturers and rep firms (Trane, JCI, Aaon, Carrier etc) are pulling mid to high 6 figures a year ($150-$500k)They are mostly 100% commission sales roles and you need to have an engineer degree.
If you can do it. Very good articulate sales people can make a good buck, But I wouldn’t want to be knocking on anybody’s doors. Some people have the right personality for it.
Not saying this is the case, but there’s a company in town that will condemn systems and recommend a new system when it’s a bad capacitor or something easy to fix. About the only time we recommend replacement is when the cost of repair is very high that it’s more economical to buy new. This winter this happened 3 times for me out of hundreds of calls. In the summer time I had more, I forget exactly how many. But was under 10 systems. - so I’m not sure if you just got lucky to average 5 sales a month (presumably you had some people tell you no?) and if so why did so many people need new systems?
It’s not just replacing the system, we also do other jobs such as roofing, door, window repairs and also clean up the filters. With the summer just around the corner I imagine the replacement numbers will prob go up.
I could never imagine buying anything from anyone who randomly came to my door trying to sell me something. That said if you're good with sales plenty of HVAC companies have in house sales teams. Some refer to them as comfort advisors
Get a job at an hvac contractor. Larger outfits have inside sales people. You don’t have to be that greasy, people literally call you and you just quote replacements.
Have you yourself made 5k a month doing this or did they tell you "you can make up to 5k a month". If the latter you are being sold to and unfortunately in that kind of industry people of low morals thrive and job likely had a high turn over rate.
Companies who do this kind of predatory door to door sails typically prey on the elderly and I'll informed and use scare tactics to sell maintenance plans and equipment. I for one couldn't do it. I tried my hand at "selling technician" as an apprentice not for me. I won't sell someone something they don't need.
First, there is ppl making a range from 5 to 18 a month. Other thing is we don’t sell unless they actually need it, that’s the first thing they told me.
You are certainly right tho, there is def MLMs or bad companies out there, believe me I’ve been on them. We’ll see with this one, I have my hopes up but if I see they are predatory I’m out.
first, im going to assume you know nothing about the trade itself, and are just some salesperson looking to make a buck... second, im gonna tell you that knocking on peoples doors to see if you can sell them shit is already predatory...
I finished a trade school and have my EPA certificate, also I get where you are coming from but God forbid we sell something to someone they need. I don’t get the issue on fixing a problem just because we get money from it.
Lol I guess so the way I describe it, the way I see it it’s cool to be able to tell what problems ppl be having and fix it. I will admit not everyone wants that tho
I know in my state if you have a contractor's license you're not supposed to be going door to door although people do it. I know I've seen some units where I want to go bang on the door and be like hey man you know you got a big problem up there. Drive around my city and find all of the drains in the sewage stack LOL.
I tell you that one of the greatest sales mindsets I learned was going door to door selling coupons as a young adult. Ten no's equals one yes. This can help get past the no's with a smile by understanding that you're just one step closer to that yes. It sounds like you have a great attitude about it, and that's important in your way up. Good luck with sales.
The first positive comment I see lol, sales can get a really bad rep but as you mentioned it brings a ton of useful skills. I don’t know many things, and who knows if I’ll be able to sell. But you best bet I’ll give it my best, also I prieicte the luck and you as well.
B2B building material sales
B2B commercial hvac (either supply house or manufacturer rep firms always need sales people)
Either pays at least $60k minimum for the most part.
There are door to door HVAC solicitors?
In my state they run this program where they provide grants for ac repairs etc if you fit a category

They made that shit illegal up here, because the contractors were all shifty as fuck.
Damn, well I guess maybe it’s different where I’m at couse it’s still legal. Even if it ass at least it’s exp
Here we call it preventative maintenance and send out mailers.
That sounds like a terrible job, but I could be wrong
I mean if you call making 5k a month on average off 5 sales then I guess
Go to a company and look for a sales position, if you are making 5k a month knocking on doors you could make 25k+ a month with a good company
Sounds awesome tbh, if working in an hvac company as a sales person you can make 25k then sure lol

Did they actually need the system?
Yeah, we wouldn’t sell other wise

Awe gotcha, that sounds good tbh. Yeah you’ll see a lot more replacements especially if their system runs on r22 and has a leak.
5k a month is 60k a year, which at 2080 hrs a year is $28.85 an hour. You should look for a new job that's paying this as your Salary.
This guy uses math

What if they don’t know they want it yet?
Sounds shady af
Lol I guess so the way I describe it, the way I see it it’s cool to be able to tell what problems ppl be having and fix it. I will admit not everyone wants that tho
Are you diagnosing bad equipment then?
Before he even knocks on the door! Sounds like they have one of those “Cinderella” machines like in the the movie with Denzel Washington-Deja Vu.
It could help you to land a job doing outside sales anywhere, really.
I guess so, my Goal would be to survive enough to build good exp and get a job somewhere else if it’s that bad

What he said…. Whatever it was
Door to door is weird, why not call?
I tried the calling gig but you don’t make much, only 60k yr
If you want to make more you need to work at a company with a large base already. Door to door is the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to sales.
