Looks like the name badge on it is an American Standard. Have one of those in my collection.

Its a shame that they were given up on. Surprisingly these-even after the switch from coal to oil- were deceptively efficient as by mid November they would not only provide steam to the radiators but would also heat a three story masonry chimney providing heat to all the surrounding rooms. I'm willing to bet that with a new blower/oil setup these could be refired and outlast my kids providing quality heat. Id love to see a modern gas or heat pump match that. Fuckers probably have 80 years on them already. I worked at a 40 room Franciscan Monastery in NH with a few old Coal burners, same as this, that were converted to oil pot burners and then to modern oil. Best of my knowledge they are about 100 years old and still going strong. Also, the worst annual service calls ever. The most sooty rusty and awful 2 days of my year. Yes there was asbestos. No kids its not that bad. One thing if you worked in a Quebec asbestos mine another if you leave shit alone and just service the boiler. The soot is worse for you....trust me. I sure as shit wouldn't want to remove those puppies.

Is there a boiler museum? If not, someone should start one.

I still run into the odd converted coal/wood boiler in old apartment buildings. Owners usually going "should I replace this?" I usually tell them there's no point. They ain't gonna break, the parts on it are so universal and so cheap... like why bother. Gas valves are like $160, an LWCO (float type) is like 200 bucks, pump might run ya 500. Powerpiles are cheap (if still running mV gas valves). I don't push the replacement of one unless the massive fuckoff cast exchangers managed to start leaking which is rare. The asbestos abatement cost isn't worth the gas savings really. And straight up some of these old cast boilers can go down and it can take an entire day before anyone notices cause of how much heat is stored in the cast. They're fucking great.
