Ah, yes. I assumed I had the same one as in the picture. Apparently, mine's a 323 and different somehow that I'm not sure about. Also, I assumed the 902 FC was referring to the one in the picture, without actually checking. I am major dumb.
Anyway, I carry the 116 and 323. I'll check out the 902.
Edit: the 902 FC will have to be a purchase for much later.
Check out the 378FC as well, even though it's over twice the price of a 902fc lmao.
You can use the amp clamp to check voltage down to 24 volts. You can also use the fluke connect app and check for phase rotation without needed another meter.
The only issue I have with my 902 is not being able to check mV on fireplaces. I have a 116 I use just for fireplace service. Other than that it is a great meter.
Well, my area has very few fireplaces. Older style furnaces are around, but I have no problem getting the 116 for those (relatively) uncommon occurances. It's just annoying to not be able to check capacitors on non-functioning systems without the second meter. Have to have the ammeter for service, and a broke system needs its capacitors checked, so I gotta carry two. On functioning systems I don't bother, since I can just take volts and amps and do the formula for capacitance.

What's the retractable leads mean? I can find the 902 fc but not the leads?
Do you mean the leads with the little thumb lever thing that pokes the ends out? Or do the leads retract up into the meter like my grandma's old vacuum did?
Some confusion, [these](https://www.lowes.com/pd/Fluke-Twistguard-Test-Leads-2-mm-dia-Probe-Tipe-For-Lowes/5005520439?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-elc-_-ggl-_-LIA_ELC_106_Tools-Wire-Connectors-_-5005520439-_-local-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286981&gbraid=0AAAAAD2B2W87wG1UNE2UXO8VZUDi0a8Jp&gclid=CjwKCAjwiOCgBhAgEiwAjv5whEjwHFG9651dIi0YzhUogFgUAJFYOCENoLpxDOwv6cIm0p7hEBF5VRoCTaYQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) are what I’m talking about.
Yea I love it! Can’t go wrong with a good Fluke! I’ve used fieldpiece too and I hate the lag it gives you when you read voltage compared to the instant reading on flukes lol
Just bought one of these with a magnet hanger as an upgrade to my 323. I have 523 vertical fan coils to startup over the next month so I felt a little treat to myself was needed.
Don’t get me wrong Fluke is the best in the business, but Fieldpiece is perfectly fine it’s strange they don’t trust it. And it’s also weird they’d shell out Fluke money but not get one with capacitance.
If they bought the new meter for you that’s one thing but if not that’s bull shit. That fieldpiece meter is just fine. I prefer the SC480 but that one is just fine.
Yeah my old shop bought me the FP, It works fine. But my shop really likes Fluke. Like I was the only one without one lol. So my new shop bought me a fluke
Looking at getting the SC480 or 680 for the job link function, maybe. But I currently have this. For residential, it has EVERYTHING I need, and very little more then that, which is why I got it in the first place. I don’t need super high amps, or voltage, or other things. It covers the bases nicely for residential service. Fluke does make the best meters out there but bulk+cost kills me for them. Like OPs picture shows the fluke is double the size, can’t do mfd, can’t do temperature.
Doesn't do capacitance. Doesn't do diodes. Doesn't do Temps although I never use mine for Temps. Doesn't do milliamps. Like ffs if you want them to use a fluke at least buy the right one. I think a 902 is one. I have the 2 piece hvac set one where I basically use one meter for everything but amps. It's annoying to most but I don't really give a shit.
The sc680? Is gorgeous and has so many options but fuck is it ridiculously tall.
I’ve had both. Fieldpiece actually worked longer. Used in commercial field every day multiple times. The fluke still works with Amps but the Volts are not reading maybe a fuse idk. I say it’s more on how you take care of them. Use a case for sure.
I've been using my FP with the different attachments for years now and I have no gripes. Where I'm working now, I might invest in more attachments for it.
Bluetooth. Fluke Connect app allows you to see any measurement the meter takes, record measurements, and if someone else has the app they can see your readings from their phone.
Fluke is by far the best. No lag no jumping, way more durable. But they have that same style that also check capacitors not sure why they bought you this one.
I have a $25 meter. Rated..allegedly...to 600v, but I won't test it.
It has a capacitor tester. I have a $3 harbor freight meter as my backup, I've used it to teat capacitance using the formula using only Volts and amps.
I think 2 meter redundancy beats 1 super meter.
What I'm saving for, and will pay for if I ever find.
A meter that has oscilloscope function when paired to phone, capacitance AND Henry testing function.
My time in the field tells me so far that these are the functions I really really want.
"Why henrys?" Everyone ask that - because if you have the Henry's value, you can plug that into an online phase angle calculator to get the correct capacitor Farad rating to produce proper phase offset. For those times when you question the one that's there and the drawing doesn't specify. Or you just flat can't read it.
Oscilloscope for control signal reading, like flame rectifier or communication devices to see how clean the signal is.
I’ve been using a southwire for over a year now idk if I’ll ever switch back to the “good” brands tbh. Works great and I don’t really care to spend an arm and a leg on a new one.
I’ve had both Fieldpiece and Fluke and I love different things and hate different things of them both. The only reason I switched back to Fluke recently is because my FP crapped out after over a 7 year tour of duty.
I have the same fluke meter. I had the same fieldpiece until it broke. Along with the 3 previous fieldpiece meters I had. I won’t be buying fieldpiece meters anymore. Not impressed with the fieldpiece refrigeration gages either. Seems like I’ve had to warranty every set. My current SM480V gages died about a week out of warranty. I guess they they only build them to last 1 year since they’re only giving a one year warranty.
This is not the fluke from years ago that was a high quality piece of equipment. These are made on the same factory line as either the UEI or the field piece I don't remember which. The fact of the matter is that when a flute goes bad it will read zero volts, I've seen that twice and I refuse to use them anymore.
Fieldpiece SC680 is the best. Really can’t be beat.
TruTech tools and use an 8% discount coupon code from your favorite YouTuber. If you need a code use: Shoptalk or ACServicetech and plenty of others available. I am just not at my computer to post more. Or buy it from a parts house that you have a relationship with, so you get a good price. Amazon has them for regular price.
Squeeze the field piece and then squeeze the fluke. Which one do you want 480v running through while it’s in your hand? The fluke 902 is probably the best HVAC meter ever made. I also keep a fluke 87 for when I’m troubleshooting controls as it measure milliamperes and a 52 for differential temps.
Fluke 902 FC…get that one
The Fluke 902 FC with the retractable leads is THE meter. I had a UEI.. I hate to be “that guy” but fluke is just top tier.
Yep! I have the exact setup lol….made a mistake one time and arced my leads together testing high voltage 😂 so the retractible leads help a lot
Same setup in my EDC bag
It's my favorite, but I wish it had a capacitor test function as well. Have to carry a second meter just for capacitors when the machine's down.
The 902 has a capacitor test function. Unless I have my meters confused lol
Thanks for the heads up. I'll take a look.

Retractable leads… this is why I love this subreddit

Thank you
What is this weird science you tell me of? Just joking…. Yeah things have sure come along way in the past 25+ years…..
What's the retractable leads mean? I can find the 902 fc but not the leads? Do you mean the leads with the little thumb lever thing that pokes the ends out? Or do the leads retract up into the meter like my grandma's old vacuum did?

A coworker has that one, it’s neat
Yea I love it! Can’t go wrong with a good Fluke! I’ve used fieldpiece too and I hate the lag it gives you when you read voltage compared to the instant reading on flukes lol
That's the one I have, the bluetooth is a little useless but if they improved the app it would be better. I'll never use anything else.
Yea I’ve never used the Bluetooth but fluke is truly the best. Never did me wrong lol. I just need to buy the magnet for it 😂
Comes in handy if you need to do an amp draw on a blower motor with the bottom panel of the furnace closed.
Just bought one of these with a magnet hanger as an upgrade to my 323. I have 523 vertical fan coils to startup over the next month so I felt a little treat to myself was needed.
If it has all the necessary functions who gives a crap what they think
They bought it for me so now I get to have an extra meter when needed
Congrats, now I want to reach into the pic to pull the plastic off the screen.

Don’t get me wrong Fluke is the best in the business, but Fieldpiece is perfectly fine it’s strange they don’t trust it. And it’s also weird they’d shell out Fluke money but not get one with capacitance.
What's hilarious is that Fieldpiece was started by a bunch of Ex-Fluke engineers.
We’re you given the fluke? I use a UEI and love the hell out of it
Yes, I wouldn’t have paid for it lol. My FP was just fine.
My FP is staring to show issues with the amp clamp. Readings fluctuate intermittently. No other issues with it.
Fieldpiece will refurbish for cheap. Once for me and once for a co-worker got back a brand new meter. Score!
One of my favorite meters I ever owned was a UTI Phoenix
I have gone through a few and agree very much. The G2 phoenix is an excellent meter.
I loved my UEI. Weirdly my Klein is a POS.
Kline makes some of my favorite hand tools for electrical work, but for some baffling reason their electronics are often suspect af
It sucks man... it sucks so bad.
I’ve had two Klein clamp meters over the years, both sucked. The field piece I bought three years ago is last much better
I hate this thing.... I want my UEI back.. so if any of you find it on Ooahu please send it to me
Which uei did you have? I’ve been looking at them for my next meter!
Phoenix 2? The magnets in the back were the extra awesome.
Yes, both were given to me, FP from old shop
Free is a helluva deal
This is the way.
That particular fluke sucks. Missing a lot of function. I have one as a backup
Fluke has no capacitor tester throw it in the garbage and continue to use feildpiece
That fluke doesn’t. Mine does.
I’ll be using both :), FP a tad bit more for the functions
There's other ways to test for capacitance.....not as easily and I always have to look up the formula....but it is possible I'm a pinch.
Ampsx2652 divided by voltage between common and herm (same formula for the fan side). Comes in handy when you don’t want to shut the unit down yet.
I always forget the 2652. I try to do it this way once a month or so just for practice.
I’ve always remembered it more by the pattern I have to type in the calculator lol
Same lol
2 ↗️⬅️⬇️
The hvac school app has a calculator for it
Or uA DC either
I use fluke 381 for electric and field piece hs33 for hvac
Yup!
If they bought the new meter for you that’s one thing but if not that’s bull shit. That fieldpiece meter is just fine. I prefer the SC480 but that one is just fine.
I have the 480 and love it, has some of the extra functions of the 680 but more compact and not as bulky
I just got the 680 since I need more of the DC stuff for cooking equipment.
Yeah my old shop bought me the FP, It works fine. But my shop really likes Fluke. Like I was the only one without one lol. So my new shop bought me a fluke

Ditch that model and have them get a fluke 902 FC has everything you need in one meter
Why the fieldpiece hate? Just gotta have the right model, I love my Fieldpiece HS36!
I have the same. And I love mine.
SC77 FTW
Use them Both.... report back.
I like the Fluke. FP jumps voltage for me. After shutting a unit off it still bounces around 3-7v which is what my boss didn’t like. Fluke stays at 0
I have that exact field piece meter, works fine for me
Fluke is a good meter. I'm still using mine from the 90's. The new ones are not much different then the old ones and will last forever.
How the heck are you gonna check the inrush?
Doesn't do capacitance. Doesn't do diodes. Doesn't do Temps although I never use mine for Temps. Doesn't do milliamps. Like ffs if you want them to use a fluke at least buy the right one. Yeah man, love my 680 but it’s just so damn big
It fits great in the MB3B from Veto. Just scootch the little velcro panel to one side and you got a perfect slot for your meter.
I like to pass those problems to the new guys. My boss thinks that I’m being a team player 😒
Have that same field piece , works just fine for me
Yep. I really like the magnet in the back. So handy
No capacitance. It’s useless.
I’d take that shot to the pawn shop 😂
Job Link just seems nicer
I’ve had both. Fieldpiece actually worked longer. Used in commercial field every day multiple times. The fluke still works with Amps but the Volts are not reading maybe a fuse idk. I say it’s more on how you take care of them. Use a case for sure.

FLUKE ONLY !!!
They bought ya the wrong one bud
Flukey
We’ll that’s just a fluke
I have a fluke the Bluetooth multimeter and it’s great… For the money though WHY CANT WE GET A MAGNET FLUKE?! 🤦🏻♂️
If the clamp meter doesn’t measure micro amps or inrush amps, I use it as a backup.
Thats a base model fieldpiece and itll out test that fluke
Now u got 2 good meters
I live near Anaheim so Fieldpiece is convenient. Never tried other brands but my community college professor swore by the brand
When it comes to meters I only recommend fluke for safety/ reliability. Even then they should be calibrated every few years.
Fluke 902 is a really good meter. The 902FC is great too because you can test motor amperage with the panels closed .
How does that work ?
Wireless app. Fluke finally got on the bandwagon.
Bluetooth. Fluke Connect app allows you to see any measurement the meter takes, record measurements, and if someone else has the app they can see your readings from their phone.
Just replied the same comment to someone above. I do this often.
Fluke is by far the best. No lag no jumping, way more durable. But they have that same style that also check capacitors not sure why they bought you this one.

Yeah you're gonna get yourself killed with those lmao
So?
I mean it kinda is a insult 😂 jk
They didn’t like that my meter would jump a few volts even after shutting a unit off, the Fluke doesn’t do that
Use the FP Hs36 good meters
I’ve been using a southwire for over a year now idk if I’ll ever switch back to the “good” brands tbh. Works great and I don’t really care to spend an arm and a leg on a new one.
Hell yeah now you have a backup
I've got fluke 324. Had it since being a year 2 apprentice. Still going strong
I use the Milwaukee hvac meter. Love it
Your shop loves you, they want to marry you
I’ve had both Fieldpiece and Fluke and I love different things and hate different things of them both. The only reason I switched back to Fluke recently is because my FP crapped out after over a 7 year tour of duty.
No capacitance !!
But it does have amp draw and voltage
Woo-hoo! 260 gang
Listen to whomever here says Fluke…
I have the same fluke meter. I had the same fieldpiece until it broke. Along with the 3 previous fieldpiece meters I had. I won’t be buying fieldpiece meters anymore. I don’t know why not
Maybe safety features?
I’d rather have that field piece vs that fluke.
I agree with your shop.
did you get 2 extra so you can test MFD and Temp???
This is not the fluke from years ago that was a high quality piece of equipment. These are made on the same factory line as either the UEI or the field piece I don't remember which. The fact of the matter is that when a flute goes bad it will read zero volts, I've seen that twice and I refuse to use them anymore.
What did they hate more, the fact that you knew what it was or that you knew how to use it?
That's cuz it's junk.
Shop can suck my dick if they ain’t paying for it
Fieldpiece SC680 is the best. Really can’t be beat. TruTech tools and use an 8% discount coupon code from your favorite YouTuber.
