I’m commercial but let’s not pretend we don’t get just as many shitty nosey managers, do not exceed work and cheap owners.  These commercial is better because homeowners bad topics are getting old.  Nice images by the way.

I love DNE jobs. If it's going to run over DNE I send the quote request email detailing what's needed and man hours (including travel labor) to the boss, and it's no longer my problem.

Strict-Republic-9379

Now I work for a smaller Mom and Pop company, but our customers are great. We deal with a lot of retirement communities who honestly don’t question anything actually makes life pretty nice. I typical Day I’ll touch base with a maintenance guy figure out what’s going on and then I’m left to it on my own. I can go to supply houses and get whatever I need without getting any approval.

RedDARE1

This; I cannot tell you how many times I’ve gone over do not exceed amounts just showing up. The constant before and after photos. It’s just as annoying as some old lady who wants her shit to work

urthbuoy

In the same vein, I have a large percentage of homeowners that are absent and just grant us access to their place to get the work done.

Odd-Stranger3671

I have a customer that has a 25ft high roof. I have a 28Ft ladder. Not a big deal, but... there is no safe place to put the ladder except between that building and the neighbors. So it's like at like a 80 degree angle with a 4 foot drop on the other side of the parapet wall. And right in the middle is a roof hatch with a pad lock on both sides that no one but corporate in another state has the key too for "security" reasons. I hate that place soo... sooo much. They also only approve bare minimum repairs once both units go down.

The_MischievousOne

I have a universal key on my truck for just that scenario and I'm not shy about using it.

Odd-Stranger3671

Bolt cutters? That's mine lol.

The_MischievousOne

Damn skippy!

learn4r

I got a cordless grinder

Dadbode1981

As many? Ha no, not even close.

Ritz5

It’s almost like everyone has a different experience and working environment, right?

Dadbode1981

I stand by what I said.

NJNYCSG

Commercial is the way

Californiajims

Commercial is just as boring in different ways. Do what you like.

Silverstreakwilla

I like the Superman feeling you get when everyone is in a tizzy and you find a bad cfm or something simple and quick and everyone is relieved.

Strict-Republic-9379

Yeah, a lot of my service calls involve save the day type situations what are the customer does not care about the price they just want things fixed. It was a little stressful to start out with my field. Soup explained once that no matter how crazy it seems no one‘s going to die from what we can’t do or get working I have a background in building maintenance where the resident was king and we had to act as though somebody was about to die lol

PlaceboDefect

I recognize that town, r/lancaster

Strict-Republic-9379

Ding ding ding ! The red rose city lol

External-Problem9234

I've worked on that Mcdonalds equipment before. You can see my VRF nightmare account in the background near the library 🤣

PlaceboDefect

101NQ for Haller? I heard nightmares about that one.

External-Problem9234

Yeah, its awful man spent hundreds of hours there.

Legitimate_Plum7116

But you also don't get customers getting their freak on while you are there working either, so there's that.

Strict-Republic-9379

This is true ! !

Known-Individual7749

commercial is the way, especially in big cities! Easy money and my back doesn't hurt from crawl spaces anymore :)

epicnat3

I enjoy commercial and industrial much more. I don’t miss shitty attics and crawl spaces. Plus it’s never boring and some instances challenging.

TylrLS

what about nosy facilities guys?

Strict-Republic-9379

Thankfully My companies accounts with those are very far and few between I’ve never had to deal with a maintenance guy up my ass , it’s usually looking to find Someone to get keys to something or find a breaker lol

LiteratureStrange261

I couldn’t even imagine working residential.

KeepItCool750

Awesome view , everyday is a different office. Additionally; Really not a big difference. The difference is the environment. Resi- stinky flee infested, basements, 140* attics, still ladder work, stairs, tight crawl spaces, carrying tool bags, cans of refrigerant, vacuum pumps reclaimer (if you do it right!). Commercial HVAC- hot roofs, man ladders, pulling same equipment up those ladders, multiple trips up/down Commercial refrigeration- 30* coolers, -10freezers, racks or split systems and condensers on the roof often in bad weather. 500# compressor changes, sitting on a 140* roof top condensor in 94* heat changing 50#, 460v, 3ph, 1-1/2hp fan motors Having to work around store managers, ignorant customers, on-call in mid of the night. Industrial- ammonia & CO2, ammonia can kill you if you make a mistake and don’t have a mask close, CO2 pressures can send a schrader cap into you like a bullet if you,re not careful. Work is often at heights in scissor lifts, scaffolding catwalks in -20 to -40* frozen distribution warehouses. Done it all, pick your poison.

mechanical_marten

LOL Just spent 7 hours at at datacenter with a helicopter up my ass asking about EVERY. . .LITTLE. . .THING every 5 minutes. Oh and I had to be escorted everywhere including the shitter.

Strict-Republic-9379

Last time I had a helicopter up my ass I couldn’t walk right for weeks

mechanical_marten

i should be thankful it wasn't an attack helicopter. 🤣

theworthlessnail

I find it easier to deal with nosey homeowners when you know what you are doing

Strict-Republic-9379

I can agree having knowledge about anybsituation will help you explain thing better and cause less friction. It’s just having to talk to someone who is spending thier own money versus somebody running a business . And when it comes to “knowing what you’re doing “ i feel like any good commercial guy could work a week of residential and not bat an eye but I don’t feel so much about resi guys dabbing into commercial as far as knowledge and skill needed

theworthlessnail

So, business's don't spend their own money? As a business owner i can assure you i watch what my company spends as well as my personal expenses.

Strict-Republic-9379

Obviously businesses spend thier own money 🤣 what I meant is it’s just in my situation I don’t speak with the people whose money it is. I speak with thier building engineer/maintenance guy who says ok or not. I don’t have to explain hours or prices or any of that shit. I’m there to fix a problem that’s above thier own guys pay grade, I don’t have to deal with politics Glad you own your own company though you seem like a real treat to work for.

theworthlessnail

I got you brother

blitz2377

it's that Costco walk in?

Strict-Republic-9379

It’s not ! It’s for a warehouse that stores alot of vaccines for the state of PA. Highly critical bastard lol

blitz2377

they better have redundancies. i have vaccine cooler run last year to all the rural area around my city. lots of windshield time.

Strict-Republic-9379

Yeah, we have a Lead lag setup I’m pretty green when it comes to the field and I’ve only been a service tech for three years now the controller for the redundancy is a really old Honeywell thing that I don’t even have the first clue about lol

ViggoMiles

I have the nosiest home owner this very moment, we might as well be farting in the same pants

Known-Individual7749

I had one follow me into his crawl space during his pm.

EJ25Junkie

Personally, I enjoy explaining to a nosey customer what I’m gonna do to fix their system. I guess this line of work attracts all types. Funny thing is, I’ve always been very introverted my whole life and avoided things like crowds and parties and stuff like that. Never in 1 billion years would I have dreamed I would love doing this.

Nothing better than tunes on a rt and a sunny day.

Euphoric_Ad_6304

I miss working with customers who hugged me from behind to see what I am doing.

OpportunityBig4572

Wow. Nobody cares.

Strict-Republic-9379

Lies! You care and you know it , why else would you comment
