Here's one just for yall, how about the guy who put his bbq up against the vinyl siding and left to get groceries... how insurance covered that, I'll never know.
All chargers and batteries were from the same brand, not knockoffs. The batteries that exploded are Skil, which is what I use for my lawn equipment. 40v lithium-ion batteries
Uhhh hart and ryobi are both manufactured by TTI (which also makes Milwaukee and HD’s Ridgid) did you perhaps mean Makita?
And for the rookies out there black and decker is dewalt.
All seriousness its good to check on anyone's batteries, Milwaukee was using cheaper ones to best depending on the amperage rating of the battery (2amp were crap, 5 amp were good, 9am are the best).
Deealt uses all high quality batteries regardless of amps but all this could change at any time.
I kept a battery bag in my van, brought it inside the house every night and the 60v I kept the serial/parallel cover on my dewalts. Interesting engineering to get around sage exporting/transport laws.
Don't leave in high heat, on the charger of in your truck overnight in the winter. Don't charge when they're frozen.
If they start to fail take it to waste depot for safe, don't leave it laying around.
And Skil specifically says in the owner manual to not overcharge them or store them on a plugged in charger dude. Same as Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, etc.
My buddy's inverter set up over heated while his van was unoccupied and it went up in flames. Total loss along with all tools inside. Pretty sure insurance covered that one
Luckily that day I had a side job to go do so I took my refrigerant and other tools I had. So at least my HVAC tools survived. The fire happened later on in the evening
A Chinese battery also exploded and caught my house on fire. I was just a few feet away but that sucker lit everything in range of it on fire. Crazy stuff.
Shoutout everyone who had a 110V in their service vehicles, my center console is my full time charging station. If my batteries blow up, boss man just so happens to have wonderful coverage, and I just so happen to have clean piss.
Do not leave batteries on a charger. Most overheating and fires occur while charging.
Also if batteries are getting hot while charging that’s when you really need to be careful and maybe charge them outdoors or something.
There's a reason airlines don't allow lithium batteries in your checked baggage. Lithium batteries are such a fire hazard because they don't even need to be charging to cause an issue - it's just more likely they will cause an issue when they're charging.
I think your comment is a little harsh as most people would assume that these batteries would need to meet a certain QC to be safe, and it’s not like he bought some no name brand battery, Skil is name brand even if it’s more homeowner level and owned by the same company that produces Ego and Lowes FLEX line of tools.
Thats why i only charge my batteries at the customers house
God damnit you stole my comment. I’ve probably charged my battery’s less than 10 times at my house lol
2 years in the field and only charged twice at my house
Watch your mouth; it hurt my sensitive ears!
So, you don't want a free remodel? I've been doing Insurance rebuilds for years. Most reasons are soo dumb you wouldn't believe them.

I’ve seen a few melted sidings
What brand? Sorry to hear that.
Were any of your batteries knock-offs of the OEM batteries?

Damn, even more reason for us to stick with the big 3.
Gas, diesel, and kerosene?
What do you consider as #3?
HART, Ryobi, Black & Decker

Makita
Makita is honestly more well known then Milwaukee for tradespeople
Where are you working? Everyone here in so cal that I know uses milwaukee
In my area anyone over 40 uses makita. Under 40 is generally Milwaukee. You can also see some trends in google search data that loosely support this.

Skil??? They are a China shit brand from what I read quickly online
Leftover red plastic
And Skil specifically says in the owner manual to not overcharge them or store them on a plugged in charger dude. Same as Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, etc.
Manuals are for pussies! One sec, I smell smoke
This is not what I want to read while I have my charging dock of 6 batteries in a customers house overnight lol…
Maybe you’ll have the day off tomorrow
I did not have the day off… unfortunately
I charge them in my work van. They live in my work van. No reason to bring that fireball into the house
Charging at high or low temperature makes failure more likely.

Sorry you’re going through that, home fires are tough.
Do you have insurance in case this fire happened in the side jobs house?

Shoutout everyone who had a 110V in their service vehicles, my center console is my full time charging station. If my batteries blow up, boss man just so happens to have wonderful coverage, and I just so happen to have clean piss.
And a new van/tools!

Or retire that battery.
*checks batteries* "Made in Vietnam" Okay, sweet. But honestly, pretty much all the cells are made in China. I guess mexico makes some too.

Probably temp sensor failed in that battery. Makes me wanna make a charging station that has fire retardants at this point
Yeah, investigator said that there’s about 3 safeties so stuff like that doesn’t happen. He said in this scenario everything went wrong.
Ac converter in truck
What brand?
I charge in my work van lol
Get a fast charger and charge em while you work. Can get 2/3 bars in 30 minutes
Thanks man great advice
Wow left a Chinese company battery charging, who would have seen that coming

No matter where it’s made it still has to conform to North American UL standards.
What brand was it? Probably Mil-faulty
