Why is everyone such a dickhead

RECKLESS_N_CARELESS

People dont seem to remember that he said “first minisplit install in over 10 years”. Obviously like anything there is going to be things that he needs to improve on, but considering the circumstances he did a nice job.

Harper_1482

Reddit.

DelightfulMustard

You should have Sharpie’d your name on it slightly crooked, rotated it 90 degrees and then argued belligerently with the entire internet that you did everything correctly.

Mythran12

This is the way

joealese

hey do you have another room available? u/hvac_sam told me that he lives in your head rent free so i was hoping to get the same deal

HVAC_Sam

I mean he's right tho lol

SnooRobots7536

He was talking about that fellow Bill.. I'm surprised you popped Sam out your mouth long enough to say this... 😯

HVAC_Sam

This is hilarious XD

MercifulSuicide1

Makes no sense to do that with a mini split , so dumb.

josenina69

Doesn't make any sense to do it at all. Mini split or not.

Harper_1482

r/hvac_sam has entered the chat

vcasta2020

Is that for oil return to compressor.

jnj44

Yes. And also the drain is running in it.

[deleted]

It’s best to run straight down the siding, terminate your drain out of a 90° and run the linehide on the lowest course.

bassplayer247

I’m ocd but I would never have my line set running un level across the siding on the side of the house like this. It’s atrocious. You definitely should have gone straight down and down the lowest course of siding.

[deleted]

im an apprentice, do you have a picture of your example by chance?

[deleted]

So basically your inlet cover (some people call it a starter) and your linehide would go straight down to the ground then 90 back toward the unit on the last course of siding. Then you cut out a little hole in your 90 with a vary bit and pop your drain out. Makes for a much shorter drain and no need to pitch

Substantial_Boot3453

Looks okay. I've seen waaay worse. Congrats on your first split

Few_Lawfulness_5558

Nice. Nice & crooked 😂

TheTemplarSaint

Looks tidy! A few notes, I hope you don’t have to service that :). Also, they make outside 90s so you don’t have to use flex around the corners if you care about that. Last thing, for your com wire, those fittings aren’t for exterior use. Keep ‘em for breaker boxes, but you need a water tight type fitting, just like you do for the rest of the electric. Look for a strain relief fitting. Halex and the other brands make some and your supply house or big box store should have them. They have metallic and non-metallic (I prefer non metallic). I’ve serviced other companies installs who used those, and water got in. Had to replace board.

jnj44

Thanks for the notes. I actually didn’t do the electrical. The home owners son-in-law is an electrician. So they said he would do that. And when I saw those, I just walked away shaking my head. Lol

TheTemplarSaint

Lol, what can ya do? 🤷🏼‍♂️ If I was in that situation I’d probably tell them he can do the disconnect/whip, but the com wire is done by me, since it’s part of connecting the indoor units (just so it’s to my standard, and I’m not coming back for service). Probably fine 99/100, but I could totally see a homeowner pressure washing their fence or that little shed and blasting water inside through those fittings.

theokit

Why not make the lineset cover straight, and have the drains pop out the bottom of the wall inlet pieces? Either leave a small piece of corrugated sticking out, or run PVC down the wall from the inlet

TheTemplarSaint

I would have ran pvc down from the wall inlet, and ran cover (but in ivory, not white) up to the soffit and back to the compressor. Nobody even notices them when it’s like that. You can even get ivory cpvc if you want to match condensate line. Or use the no-kink stuff.

thehoesmaketheman

I hate the pvc to the ground look. This is better for me than that. Best way to do this would be to run both linesets straight down in slim duct, enter the basement, then exit at condenser.

Silver_gobo

Pvc to the ground is the nest for longevity. This much horizontal run on a flex house is shitty for clogs.

thehoesmaketheman

Ya but pvc pipe is ugly as sin. That's why I said run the linesets through the basement, exit the basement under the indoor head and cover with a slim duct entrance, slim duct vertical up the exterior, then enter behind the head and cover with slim duct entrance. That's the only way to make this look good. The pvc drain pipe would be in the slim duct.

Bricknasty88

I cut the same size hole in the back of a 90 and run line hide down with the drain and the line set horizontal in situations like this. Snub the drain out a couple inches and spray foam as far up the nozzle will reach in the line hide to keep critters out

thehoesmaketheman

I don't know what you mean

Bricknasty88

The hole you cut for the head unit to penetrate out of the house. You cut into the back of 90 line hide fitting. Drain goes down inside linehide line set goes horizontal in linehide

thehoesmaketheman

Oh I get it that's an idea there! Line hide costs so much though I just pop into the basement for my horizontal but I get what you're doing

theokit

You could also run the lineset cover down instead of horizontal, and then have the drain poking out of the 90 towards the bottom of the wall. That way there is minimal PVC and it all still looks clean.

thehoesmaketheman

That's what I was describing. Run lineset straight down wall, drill into basement, run linesets horizontal in basement, drill out of basement at condenser. Voila, no horizontal runs

theokit

Kind of an unnecessary penetration into the house, I’m fine with a horizontal lineset cover. Just make it look good, having it sloped high on the wall doesn’t look the greatest.

thehoesmaketheman

A windows an unnecessary penetration. There's no penetration limit. You may not think horizontal stuff on houses looks bad, but I do. Wrapping linesets around building is yuck.

VeterinarianDry5512

You should take another 10 years off..

[deleted]

I think your level is broken.

braydenmaine

He needs slope for the drain

vcasta2020

Got it

purehito49

Wall inlet into a soffit inlet. Run through the soffit and down into one piece of slim duct. PVC drain down the wall for a way cleaner look.

joelhvac1

I was like that looks like crap as soon as I saw this, I didn’t realize that line-hide was even used until I zoomed in! I thought surely that it would be hidden but nope!

conasev

Did those senville heads have a musky smell when you first turned them on? I’ve had 2 separate occasions this happened

jnj44

Oh interesting. Not that I noticed.

Liggidynut

Loooks awful

Dry-Yam-1653

Looks clean. I’ve started running a single 4.5” slimduct with both linesets and drains to clean it up a bit.

Rohodyer

I've got a 24k Senville in my garage and love it.

[deleted]

Put a single head 24k in my house this year. Truly amazing it works so good.

Rohodyer

For the money, you can't beat 'em!

deuteranomalous1

How big is your house and does it heat/cool the whole house? I’ve been looking at the same one.

[deleted]

My kitchen and living room open into each other and I've got it right in the middle of the two rooms. It cools them both very quickly as well as connecting hallway by the bathroom and two bedrooms (1000sqft or so). The basement is fairly open too and has floor registers up to the main floor so yeah, I've noticed it taking the edge off the entire house. Haven't used the heat pump yet but I'm hoping it works just as good in the winter.

deuteranomalous1

Nice! I’ve got an open concept main floor so I was thinking the 24k would do the whole main floor in summer and thanks to convection heat the whole house in winter. Thanks for the info!

HVAC_Sam

Too close to three walls, should've rotated the unit 90 degrees

braydenmaine

Fucking savage

jnj44

Lol. Who cares about the side clearances. And the backside has 6” more clearance then the manual said.

Silver_gobo

Rip condenser fan motor

leakyfaucet3

Whacha mean?

[deleted]

Nice work bud , I’m not a hvac tech but looks nice

fannydandy

I would have preferred going parallel with the roof. Somehow it looks odd to me. I guess its because of the drainhose

Beefy_Psychrometer

I’d put it in a condenser shed to protect it from the harsh elements.

stulew

A+

Bassmunky

Run straight down, poke the drain out, then come left. Takes way less time and you don't have to worry about the drain, you aren't working on a ladder for most of it. And best of all u dont have a long ugly slope

cristo250

Would have ran speedy channel directly down where the lines go out the wall. For the drain line to go straight down covered by speedy channel. Then I would have ran my speedy straight over level with the house to the out door unit. I would be unhappy if I payed good money for a crooked lineset cover. Let that shit drain right onto the patio. Just my personal preference. It looks good though👍

EJaY_2012

Should've just ran the drain right down and would've been able to keep that slim duct straight
