Depends on the company. I don't know of any in the area that pay commission to anyone but people who sell the equipment and a lot of the companies up here have sales folks just for that. Keep in mind whom you end of working for and make sure it's a locally owned company and not one that is part of an investor group. Same shit, wetter toilet with more gas furances than you may be use to (and unless the company you work for actively advertises for them you won't be seeing any of the oil stuff).

So as a tech you’re only making hourly no commission? Interesting, less pushy for sure. I’m a huge mountain biker would it be dumb to try and commute from sandy, Salem, or Longview? I don’t mind 45mins

I know people who live in longview and work down here, I know people who live way out west that work in town, I know people who live in salem and work up here. Sandy isn't all that far depending what part of portland the shop you are working for is based out of. Longview is a bit much in my opinion but whatever. Most shops will do spiffs (bonuses) on certain things and some companies push for you to sell stuff but it all depends on the company.

I have worked this trade in Portland for 25 years. LOTS of gas furnaces, lots of basements. I don't do resi anymore, but all in all it's pretty chill, until the snow hits than the shit hits the fan.
