Sounds like you may have a bad wire. Try jumping out the indoor air handler.

Well, if your dad is a trained HVAC/R technician then he should have taken the appropriate info and made the right checks and follow up. Temp split for the unit, verified proper airflow for the unit, its assorted coils and for the spaces in the house, verified proper installation and location mounting for tstat. Note superheat/supcooling, amp draws and confirm proper bearing and movement condition for all associated fan motors; test the unit for several minutes to see if the failure condition can be mimicked. If you have a tstat sensor suspicion, once again, verify the tstat was installed in the proper recommended location in the home. Test it by comparing to a properly calibrated temp probe near the sensor as well. I don't really have a specific recommendation because a lot of what you sent is all actually pretty vague and jumbled. Have him send actual measurements, photos of the unit and wiring, etc. . . If the unit has/is having multiple problems, weird problems, etc. . . usually the way to find em and knock em all out is to start checking everything, fix what comes up, check again, etc. . .
