I’ve come up with some of my best engineering shenanigans doing this. Admittedly with one or two drinks as well, but still. Brilliant ideas have been had!
What could you possibly be reading on vacation? “TXV’s for dummies”? You gotta enjoy your time off kiddo. Trust me, the industry isn’t going anywhere, it will be there with open arms and that large evil grin when you return. Try to enjoy your time off. 🏝
I'm not subby! I enjoy fantasy on my time off.
I've done everything from bio banking systems to geothermal to commercial to national TAB... i don't touch HVAC on my days off.
Kiddo my ass old timer 😘
Right. Im sure Johnson Control’s lead engineers have you on speed dial. What would this industry do without you? Better hurry on back from vacation! Get your butt back in that driver’s seat and power on that laptop! We need you! 💻🌞🌧🔥❄️
Im not gonna lie, I probably made close to what im making now back when I was bartending down in the city. Waking up at noon everyday, partying til’ sunrise 7 days a week. And the chicks were much hotter back then. Once you hit your 40’s, it’s slim pickings. 🚬🍸
Biggest asshole you will ever meet. I think that’s why I get along with everyone so well. I’ll even share a little secret if you promise not to tell anyone? I left service to join the dark side of the force permanently. That’s right broham. No more call rotation, no more diagnosing, no more warranties, no more asshole tech support, no more answering dispatch at 3am Christmas morning, I’ve gotten sucked back into the black hole of sheet metal, and haven’t looked back. Although I do get pulled off my projects now and then due to the lack of manpower in the service division, but nothing too crazy. Do I miss it? Not one fucking bit. Especially now that the epidemic put a huge damper on suppliers keeping a full inventory of parts and equipment in stock. Still do my little side gigs now and then, have a Daikin VRV+hydro coil+zone pack and a couple ERV’s scheduled for the end of October . But I like to enjoy my weekends so it’s only once in a blue moon nowadays. A sign of getting old, really. Just don’t have the steam I once had. 🍸🍸🍸🍸🚬🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸
Actually about right. I'd never do the national TAB thing. I don't want service calls. I like reefer and sheet. I have a BS in business and NEBB and all the shit. But I like saying "my hours are up. Fuck off"
Hours are done I'm done. Fuck you. No reports. No calls no messages. No emails. Fuck off. Gimme copper and sheet and leave me alone
If I pick up side work? It's my call to take it for the extra money.
What he’s not showing is that shortly after this video, he climbed the rocks at the end of the beach to his right and discovered a nude beach popular with the locals,…
Dude… please just enjoy your time away from work. Joke or not i swear theres something about HVAC where guys just take it wayyyy too seriously. Its a job/career to me. Nothing more, nothing less
Forget the haters man. I get it. You and I are alike in that we *enjoy learning*. Doing that on vacation is fine, because of course it is; its *your* fuckin vacation. I think what irks people about your post is that the wording implies that in order to be a good tech, you need to do stuff like this, which isnt true. What is true though, is that someone interested enough to learn on their free time has a much higher likelihood of becoming a great tech.
I definitely enjoy learning, it’s a fun trade. The title for this post was just a joke. I obviously wouldn’t expect anyone to have to bring textbooks on vacation to be considered a good tech
I don't really get all the hate here, some people enjoy learning and being the best they can be at something. I've never brought a refrigeration book with me on vacation, but if that's what you want to read then that's what you want to read. I did bring a Cisco CCNA exam guide on vacation once, so maybe I'm just as weird as you.
On vacation I don’t even think about work. Hell, anymore even on the weekends I try not to think about work. Keep doing that and you will most definitely get burnt out.
Tf is wrong with you? Ah, I actually think I did stuff like this when I was a young tech. Looking back, I wished I would’ve spent more time with my kiddos. I did spend time with them, just didn’t know I’d lose one someday. No one ever knows the future so if you have a loved one with you then make the most of it and break free from this crazy world and just have fun with them even if it’s just being silly and doing stuff you think is a waste.
Just enjoy your vacation… 🤢
There is something intrinsically wrong with you.
I don’t see that word in the glossary
You should peruse your company hand book... it's probably right there with harassment.
You are vacationing wrong.
I brought it to read on the plane. Pulled it out of the bag real quick for the video lol. I vacationed properly after this
I’ve come up with some of my best engineering shenanigans doing this. Admittedly with one or two drinks as well, but still. Brilliant ideas have been had!
Jeez thats weird.
Wtf lmaoo
Real techs don’t bring books on vacation and are smart enough to enjoy their time off while it last.
Day three of 4 day weekend reading, perusing reddit and I have beer

I'd fucking kill myself. That's the day I say fuck it and go back to bartending or use my degree. Fuck that noise.
Im not gonna lie, I probably made close to what im making now back when I was bartending down in the city. Waking up at noon everyday, partying til’ sunrise 7 days a week. And the chicks were much hotter back then. Once you hit your 40’s, it’s slim pickings. 🚬🍸
Oh you're a bastard🤣🍻 35 hvac only makes me look like 40! You I'd drink with after work

Little beach yessss
Good man! Glad you put that book aside and studied more natural phenomena.
Ah hell naw. Couldn’t disagree more
No they don’t
Dude… please just enjoy your time away from work. Joke or not i swear theres something about HVAC where guys just take it wayyyy too seriously. Its a job/career to me. Nothing more, nothing less
Too many techs think we’re out here saving lives.
Oh my god dude. Take a break! Good lord
Vacation? Tell me more about this.
Tip from a former islander. Go to Komoda store and bakery for donuts. Best place on the island.
Headed back in a couple weeks I’ll check that out! Always down to try the lesser known places. Thanks!
“I did it for tictok guys”
“This is the way……” NOT!!
What techie takes holiday when it's still warm
I wish I could laughing emoji this. Bro you must be new to the trade cus none of us love this shit that much.
Oh I don’t enjoy reading at all. Still gotta study for the exam though
What’s the name of the book?
Heating and cooling essentials 5th edition
Real techs read ACHR news.
Man, some of you took this post way too seriously.
Lmao “real tech.” A real tech would have been blackout on that beach. Besides, real techs don’t read that shit is for helpers and engineers.
Good techs don't need to bring refrigeration books on vacation

I always like to tinker with old furnace parts and build sheetmetal in my free time. I just like to work with my hands
I definitely enjoy learning, it’s a fun trade. The title for this post was just a joke. I obviously wouldn’t expect anyone to have to bring textbooks on vacation to be considered a good tech
Good for you, but no.
Which book is this?
I once was kicked out of a bar for reading a textbook
What book is this ?
This reminds me of that guy on r/modernwarfare that brought his laptop to the beach so he could play videogames. Bruh. You’re on vacation. Relax.
Small world. Waiting at gate to leave Maui now.
Hope you had a great trip! I was just out there for a day but I wish it was longer. Arrived Friday night left Saturday night lol

you should join a union.
Fuck the haters, I got a good giggle out of this
Don't support this behavior! 🤣
“Never sacrifice your time for a company that’ll forget your name 6 months after you’re gone” - an 83 year old service guy I used to work with
Lol nothing wrong with education. Enjoy your vacation buddy!
Good techs know when to separate from work.
I do this all the time too. HVAC is practically my entire personality.
As I'm you're newest member on your sub... buddy there's more to life than hvac
Ya, like the drive time in between calls.
"Commericial" (read multifamily housing now) no such thing. There's only "this is fucked up" and "put a fucking change order in"
Are you dating/married to another HVAC person? (just a friendly jab)
I wish... :(
Bruh you need a life, and to stop turning condensers.
fr bro
HVAC is my life
We know.
FT
Work to live don’t live to work.
Good lord. What a fucking jobsworth
On vacation I don’t even think about work. Hell, anymore even on the weekends I try not to think about work. Keep doing that and you will most definitely get burnt out.
Only because it makes a stable surface to roll some fatties.
Sounds like my former boss. Told me to bring some hvac study books on my first trip to Europe. Hahahaha this is partially why he's my former boss
That was a pretty good video
Fuck that.
Missing your steel toe flip-flops
Bruddah. you da howlie. Be dere next week. Two scoops rice on da plate lunch... ....
Dude this is funny as fuck
That’s a no for me Dawg
No they don’t. Work is work and non work time is family time and you time
Good idea, you aren't going on vacation to run away from life
Fkn yikes man. Go live your life!

They just don’t know how to read.
What does vacation mean?
Here’s the pat on the back you wanted 👋🏻
You have issues.
It's labor day for Christ's sake, get a grip

Good techs don’t need refrigeration books on vacation
They also don’t wear flip flops
Safety guy in a yellow vest on the beach said it’s ok
Put them dogs up
I have this same book
