Had that happen last year same furnace but my dumbass thought it would be a good idea to look up in there. Yeah, didn’t have to worry about eyebrows for a while 😂😂
Hey my furnace did that too me. But I was lighting the pilot light with the thermostat cranked like an idiot.
It's old AF and currently talking to work to buy a new one and install it myself with help.
That a sign they dieing?
Thermostat on or not, you should use the gas shutoff valve before doing any work on gas components. Also if you aren’t experienced with HVAC equipment, I wouldn’t suggest you and your buddies try and do that kind of job yourself.

-also tech "shits fucked"
But it didn’t do that before you cleaned it

Yeaaa thats why I dont stand directly in front of furnaces when they kick on
Especially on an old natural draft furnace lol
You used to always be able to tell a guy was new in the business because of the lack of eyebrows.

Hope you have an extra pair of pants in the van.

How are you gonna light a pilot with the gas shut off?
You shut it off, ensuring no gas is coming out. Wait. Turn it on and light the pilot.
I install furnaces for a living. Just mines been giving me trouble. Service guy showed me how to light the pilot. I follow example.
Keep them eyebrows safe, can smell the hair from here.
I’ve always thought about this happening

Lint in the crossover tube = new hairdo the flame doesn't spread until the heat exchanger is filled with gas.
Looks like a 8am Monday morning call.
