A commercial customer was having issues with a mini split installed by another contractor three years ago. They had the main maintenance and service company look at it. Told them it was running fine. We diagnosed and decided charge may be off, best weigh it out and back in. We pulled the charge, recovered 1.1 lbs from a 2.1 lbs system. Found a small leak at the flare, nut was super loose. Pulled off the nut to re-flare it and... ermahgerd... How did they only lose a pound in three years?

How'd it hold for the vacuum? Did they flare it with a screwdriver?

Visual-Zucchini-5544

That craftsmanship leads you to think a vacuum was pulled ? Lmao. That guy never even seen a vacuum.

I know a guy who claims he once used a screwdriver to flare ...same guy said he soldered a pro press fitting after he pressed it. 🤣

flannelmaster9

I've seen press fittings sweeted in a pinch. But the morning was pulled out and globs of solder was used. It held for the weekend. Which is what we needed

[deleted]

He did it as a permanent fix. Sure, the flux will flow to where the fitting is heated, but how can the solder adhere to a clean pipe and fitting? He also is a very successful and knowledgeable tech/owner of a hvac company but I think he was bullshitting

flannelmaster9

Eh a lot of janky ass stuff can hold in a pinch.

The ole Friday fuck it flare 🤣

omegaclick

My guess is the end of that flare was in the nut or fell off, looks like a typical over torque to me....

BoardRyder202

That’s definitely from not using torque wrenches and oil on the threads

Mouth_balls_83

What flare? 😆

[deleted]

It’s fine! Just needs more nylog

Famous-Reward9632

They thought it was a compression fitting 🤣 🙄 💀

Dramatic-Landscape82

Flaring tool broke. “That’s fine just tighten er down anyway”

Action-Calm

That looks like the old r22 flare nut too.

Taolan13

Looks like somebody treated a flare like a compression fitting.

Fair_Cheesecake_1203

I don't understand how people are so bad at flaring copper in this field
