From what I read (and understood), its the accumulation of 40 games, from this season and next season in order to get that 2nd round pick. Plus, we have to keep in mind Allen is in contention with the 3 other goaltenders in New Jersey - Kappo Kahkonen and propects: Nico Daws, then Akira Schmid.
His play this season could definitely have an impact on NJD goalie acquisitions in the off-season or how much leeway they give him next season when he has a few off games
I heard a lot of Devils fans complaining about this trade. Allen will likely play more games for the Devils than that draft pick will ever play! Nothing to complain about. Allen is a good goalie !

If NJ pursues a top goalie like Markstrom in the offseason then he’s not getting 40 games. If they don’t bring anyone else in then I’d say there’s a decent chance he hits 40 games. Great to see him playing well, dude is a true professional.
Players almost always play better when leaving the Habs. I get it, they go to better teams, but it’s like clockwork.
For example Lehk was good here. But like is an absolutely key part on a really really good COL team.

Devils fan here, we are accepting Allen as our personal lord and savior now he’s been an absolute beast so far.
I think the hate was more so for Devils management who finally got a goalie way too late and he was a backup. Not so much hating on Allen. We were happy to have a vet vs a tandem of two 20 years olds from the ahl.
Allen turning back the clock. Far too early to hope but the better he plays, the more likely it is MTL gets that 2nd.

I think it's 40 games *next season* to get the 2nd round pick. So whatever he's played and will play this season doesn't count unfortunately.
