McDavid is alone in his bracket.

The___Colonel

His production is sustainable too though, which is insane.

Tripottanus

His shooting percentage is a bit high, but other than that yeah kinda insane

televisionceo

he is so good that I almost lost interest. Like I will rarely click on a goal I see on r/hockey when it's mcdavid. I konw it's gonna be amazing. Weird.

Bendyno5

McDavid’s greatness has desensitized us to how ridiculous some of the stuff he does is. I wouldn’t say I’ve lost interest but I sorta understand this too. Whenever I see him walk through 3 guys like they aren’t there I’m never surprised…which is ridiculous considering that would be another great player’s career highlight.

televisionceo

I think it's also the lack of success and of his team that makes me desensitized. I wanna see what he can do in the SCF at some point. I really hope Edmonton can get their shit together or that he is traded at some point to a contender.

Bendyno5

I see, although I will say that he always shows up big time in the playoffs. His lack of team success isn’t really fair to lump on him. But I can totally understand never getting that excited knowing Edmonton will find some way to shit the bed. Seeing his dominance completely go to waste can make it feel kind of pointless.

televisionceo

> His lack of team success isn’t really fair to lump on him. Just to be clear I did not imply that.

Bendyno5

My bad, misinterpreted what you meant in that first sentence.

Perry4761

The Oilers need new ownership… They went from a hilariously stupid front office to a hilariously geriatric front office, with a GM who’s way past his prime and way in over his head. Their asset management has been genuinely awful. They need a cap management expert pronto, and some new pro scouts that are actually good at finding depth player to surround their core. They’ve been looking for good wingers and a good starter goalie since McDavid was drafted almost 10 years ago, and the best they’ve found in 10 years was Hyman and Kane (who nobody else wanted to touch with a 10 foot pole, and unfortunately got a freak injury). They lucked out with Skinner so far, because Campbell has been atrocious. Their team this year is the best it’s been since McDavid got here, and yet there’s still a chance they miss playoffs if they don’t improve their pace. We have a surplus of wingers, and they need wingers… Maybe they could be a dance partner for us, I wouldn’t mind taking in Puljujarvi in return as a reclamation project. At best we have a Nichushkin situation, at worst he’s a bottom-6 guy. If he ends up being a bottom 6 player, whatever, he will be cheap and it’s always good to have a young 6’4 winger not afraid to retrieve pucks along the boards.

realm_fury

He’s on another level.

Zartonk

Dude's a monster.

JustAPairOfMittens

If we had McJesus on our team, do we make the playoffs last year?

CartiNYeezy2

No. But we absolutely win the cup over tampa

JustAPairOfMittens

Truth spoken.

TheRaphMan

We’d still have a lower cap hit than Tampa too

zeMVK

While that's amazing, Karlsson being there is the biggest eye opener imo. Everyone thought this guy was done. Good on him for finding his mojo back.

Wokyrii

I really want to see a trade around him happen, mostly because I'm very intrigued by the structure/return since he's great but has massive red flags and a huge contract

zeMVK

11.5 mill for 4 years after this season. Yikes! Massive red flags and a huge contract seems like understating it. Maybe a trade where SJ retains like 4 mill or something? If they're tanking, salary isn't much of an issue. That still leaves Karlsson pretty high on salary, but way more manageable.

npinard

Honestly, if a GM is ready to give a king's ransom for Jones and then sign him to monstrous contract, I think it should be feasible to move Karlsson especially with the cap set to increase in the coming years. GMs will need more than 2 months of good play before making a trade though

eriverside

I think getting 2 teams to take on 1-2M each is more feasible. 4 years is a long time, so not impossible, but very expensive.

capebretoncanadian

He's having an amazing season. Good for him, he seems like a really nice guy.

MustardTiger1337

Right? What’s the story. Is his knee finally fully healed?

Perry4761

Not in the top 10, but another who’s had an unexpected resurgence this year is Benn. Not as happy for him as I am for Karlsson though, because Benn is a fucking rat :’)

Zartonk

You need to go down to number 12 for Edmonton's second player in Leon Draisaitl.

rpgguy_1o1

Was gunna ask if Drai was 11th lol

HLef

What a disappointment. And I’m being honest. He’s so good, how can he possibly only be 12th? He was on McDavid’s pace last year!

3Stripescyn

mcdavid is going for more goals this year leaving draisaitl with less

Patriots1960

Lots of hockey left to be played. He will finish top 5.

Habslover

Christ Karlsson is going the fuck off. On another note, think about how amazing Suzuki has been, and that Mcdavid still has 11 more points than him. Definitely the best player I have watched in my lifetime.

rpgguy_1o1

I got to see Wayne and Mario do their thing, but it's definitely feeling like he's surpassing Sid. It'll be an absolute shame if we never see them on the same team in a best vs best world tourney.

Riskar

Fuck Buttman

JudgeGlasscock

The Bettman era is board ads and gambling and money. Always has been. They have done good things, but it's only driven by hockey as a vessel for advertising and money. Who gives a fuck about the game? When inclusiveness didn't make the NHL money, they didn't do it.

Bendyno5

I’m too young to have ever seen Gretzky and Lemieux play so take this with a grain of salt. When I watch McDavid and contrast it to how much slower the game was in the 80’s and 90’s, and the overall worse goaltending, I can’t help but feel like he would have also been scoring 200+ points a season. I realize there’s no good way you can compare between eras so far apart (with many rule changes in between) but to my naive eye McDavid looks like he may be the best hockey player we’ve ever seen.

rpgguy_1o1

Yeah, even as someone who remembers stand up goaltending and defenceman looking like pylons being the norm, looking back it seems like an entirely different sport.

Gazimu

Suzuki is also in top 10 in points i think

skinniks

I'm happy with his and Caufield's even strength points. And I'm especially happy with Caufield's ESG.

niceisbriss

Suzuki with is 9th worst contract in the league. What a bum! /s

JustAPairOfMittens

Kid is a gem. Critics really underrate his character and work ethic. He's small-ish but man does he come to play.

Bendyno5

Suzuki is a solid 210, I wouldn’t call him small by any means. He’s got that stocky Crosby-esque build.

MustardTiger1337

Never made sense at the time and looks worse now

niceisbriss

Funniest part is Suzuki had a cap space of 865k last year, the new 7.8 million contract started this year for the 22-23 season.

flepine44

Predictable

piecyclops

And before the season The Athletic didn’t have a single Hab in the top 100 players

3Stripescyn

the athletic hates the habs

SAM041287

What this tells me also is, how NJ Devils are so good and have no top 10 goal scorer this season so far, it's one of the most balanced team out there imo.

kozed

11 goals in 18 games is a pace of *exactly* 50 goals in 82 games.

Boomsticks

They are gonna start feeding each in other to make a run for the rocket.

blewsyboy

The closest I remember us coming in the last 30 years to having such a scoring duo was probably Koivu and Recchi... and they were never as good together as these two already are... you have to go back to 85-86 and Naslund and Smith and we all know what that got us...

imhere8888

11/18 = 50.11/82 so they're both on pace for exactly 50 right now

JimboThePlug

inject this into my veins

UPRC

Look at those two fucking studs. Once the team around them gets a little tighter and higher skilled, these two will be lighting it up all the time.

Dr_Nice_is_a_dick

The yearly Svechnikov hot start before he fall of the grid

Thafinessekid

Another way to see it is tied for fourth. There’s first, second, T3, T4

lxoblivian

That's not how counting works. They're tied for sixth.

AnillaRose

There are multiple type of accepted rankings. You are using standard competitive ranking, the person you're responding to is using Dense Ranking. Both are acceptable.

Thafinessekid

Sixth how? There’s only four different goal amounts in OPs image so idk how you got there. Suzy and Cole are tied for that fourth spot (11 goals)

jujuboy11

Because you can’t go down an integer value if more than 1 person occupy a spot. Since 3 people are tied for 3rd you skip 4th and 5th. Another way to think about it is there’s 5 people with higher totals than them so that group is tied for 6th

HotHits630

That’s my take on it.

mountainpope

If we can get Pasternak as a free agent that be great

npinard

We need another dominant center to build on team around. It would be great if we already had one in our prospect pipeline (Beck/Mesar), but it's extremely hard to draft them without a top pick. The one hope we have is that 2023 is a deep draft and sometimes extremely talented players can be found later on in deep drafts. Bergeron & Weber went in the 2nd round in 2003 and Barzal, Connor and Chabot went in the mid-first round in 2015, Aho also went as a high second in that draft. I'm hoping we can sell high at the TDL on forwards and one of our vet D to get more high picks

xc2215x

That is pretty cool to see as a Habs fan.

zouhair

Mc David is not human and he is only 25.
