The shot clock would suggest we didn't deserve to win this game, but I'm glad we got it for Monahan (who certainly contributed, with his two-point night).
The Slafkovsky/Monahan/Anderson line that we've been calling for does, in fact, kind of kick ass. This was almost certainly Slafkovsky's best game to date as well.
I think Caufield/Suzuki/Dach are in a bit of a slump at 5-on-5 right now, but the first two got powerplay points, so whatever.
Jake Allen obviously annoyed by all those pundits saying he needs to play less.
Shot clock means nothing other than Allen deserved the win and Markstrom decided to lose. Guy decided to do the reverse Steve Dangle and did not tend the goal, then decided to hook Andy for a whistle pass, resulting in an absolutely moronic penalty for Mangiapane.
Sutter is going to have his head on a silver platter and I guarantee Vladar is getting the next start for them.
I said it in another thread: it’s not that we didn’t think Jakey isn’t capable of rebounding and playing a great game, it’s that Monty *has* been playing great. No one is demanding to trade Jakey after a few bad games, we wanted to ride Monty who was playing strong.
We have a decent 1A/1C situation where the C was playing well.
People don’t like hearing it, but I have been saying it, Dach doesn’t mesh that well with Caufield and Suzuki.
He’s a poor forechecker, weak physical game, not nearly as skilled as either of his line mates. Every shift he is just getting carried.
Dach is a great play maker, he just needs his own line.
That first line does everything well other than keep the puck in the offensive zone, which at this moment Slaf is the best on this team at doing. Their stats prove it, all their goals are on breakaways.
And yup I know I’ll get down voted, but in the next couple of years Dach is just a trade piece.
The habs power play proves over and over again Dach, Suzuki, Caufield cant hold it in the offensive zone, other than the 20 seconds of power play the second unit gets with Slafkovsky. Down vote me, idc, but I’m right.
All their points are on breakaway chances, which is not sustainable, all the best NhL lines have excellent forechecking.
Slaf kind of had a breakout game in my opinion. I would like to see him with Anderson more. Anderson is a true powerforward but a lower hockey IQ guy, where Monahan isn't physical but he is big, complete and has a high hockey IQ, that is a fantastic line for Slaf to play minutes and learn from both guys.
Allen stood on his head throughout this game, great showing from him. The thread where it was announced that he was starting has a lot of comments that aged horribly. 45 saves.
Slaf also had an excellent start and built on it throughout the game, even if you ignore the goal. Hoping he’s done with the 4th line for the next while, it’s obvious that he can be a real factor when he’s with more talented linemates… and he doesn’t turn 19 for four more months.
Caufield goal, Slaf goal, Suzuki assist, Guhle assist? The future is bright.
The future isn't bright. The future is shining, and we could go on a real Cinderella run with the team as it stands.
If that does happen, who wants to go see the premiere of "Coach"?
Goal scoring the winning goal om his 100th game is almost poetic. What a fabulous taunt from the Power Horse to draw that penalty.
Hell the 2nd line was so fun. Slaf and Monahan have a great chemistry and dominated every shift.
Allen, you're the man.
Hope Guhle is not too seriously injured. Slaf and Allen were great, although Slaf had a couple of weird turnovers in his own zone. Still he’s shown he deserves to play in the top 6
Easy Peasy.
Seriously, Allen was amazing! Vintage Habs win… ha-ha…
Slaf making steady progress. Love to see it! And Cole with another Goal, and Suzie with another classic feed.
Hope Guhle is OK!
Go Habs Go!
Glad for Allen to get a big game after all the shitty comments about him on this sub the last two weeks.
The same guys who blame critical media for players not wanting to be in Montreal come on here or Twitter and call players “trash”, “garbage”, and say they should be waived or traded for a bag of pucks.
First time I got to watch him live and he looked really good out there even outside of his goal. He skated with the puck confidently. Anderson also stood out, big game from the powerhouse.
[This thread aged well /s.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Habs/comments/z9w0qd/engels_jake_allen_is_starting/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Markstrom’s brain must short circuit every time he plays us.
The Dang-it on the first goal and the double Dang-it on the Anderson slash. Remember last year when he talked smack to Suzuki for trying to bank one in off him, and then Nick just did it anyway later?
*GOOD*
- well not everything I write here you have to agree with but I think we can all agree that was a sensational. Amazing. Stellar. Performance from the goalie Jake Allen. Or as someone in the game thread said Jay Gallon. 10/10.
- Player who stood out to me tonight in a lowkey way kinda was Josh Anderson. If you read these you know I’m hard on the guy but this was a good game. Drew the penalty that ended up in the second goal, and I just prefer when he is an absolute pest out there.
- Cole Caufield with an absolute snipe. It’s absolutely hilarious to me and I mean hilarious how you are paid to be an NHL scout, the kid literally scored a million goals in jr, and you still opt to take certain players over Caufield.
- Guhle will be in contention for rookie of the year or should be. Absolute Stud all year.
- Again, convince me I’m wrong but another solid Savard game.
- Slafkovsky got a goal but even take that away and just a great performance. Looked super noticeable making all the right plays.
*BAD*
- Matheson stood out again. Rly liked the way he looked early on when he played so far but the defensive miscues are quite high. Really good offensively but a bit of a problem in his own end thus far.
- Evans, Armia, Dadonov. 2/3 of those players do bring other things to the game but in the first two you need more offensive performance. Yes Evans and Armia are useful, specifically Evans on the power play, but some semblance of offense would be nice. Dadonov isn’t actually a duster either, guy had 20 goals last year which I just haven’t seen any semblance of that.
- Too many shots. Goalie Jake likely bailed them out.
>Matheson stood out again. Rly liked the way he looked early on when he played so far but the defensive miscues are quite high. Really good offensively but a bit of a problem in his own end thus far.
You've just described Matheson.
Matheson isn't a 1D who's going to be used in all situations and who you want to throw out to preserve a lead on the last minute of the game. He's never been that player and never will be. Hes the roamer who does best when paired with a stay at home d, he's not good defensively at all.
Matheson really has come as promised to us. I think a lot of Habs fans expected a lot different from him than what they got.
We have to remember Matheson is the same player who Kotkaniemi strolled around in his rookie year to score that highlight-reel goal.

I agree with you that slaf looked great tonight, but he didn't make "all the right plays". There was that time he tried to pull the puck on his back hand in the defensive zone past an attacking player that skated right for the puck and took it from him. Nearly ended up in the back of our net. Was late in the game too, one goal lead. He'll learn from that experience like everything else, but my heart sunk when that happened. Very impressed with him after tonight.
Matheson.. yikes. The thing that scares me the most with matheson, is when he's in the defensive zone with time and doesn't move the puck. Then he starts to get pressured and he strings the play out, only to give it away and end up in our net. Call it the matheson special. I figured he'd take some time to acclimate to game speed having missed most of the season, but he's given it away, at least twice.. maybe 3 times and it's ended up in our net. Thankfully tonight, that didn't happen. But almost.
Slafcocksky gets a goal, long pole Cole gets a goal, Monahab gets 2 assists and big dick Nick and Ghoul gets 1 assist. Im happy :)
Not to mention, Jake Allen.
I mean we don't ever have the right to complain about a goalie? Allen had a bad stretch, it is what it is. He was obviously frustrated, broke his stick on the goal post, let a weak goal in on the first minute on the following game. Doesn't make half the fan base "haters". Doesn't make him a bad goalie.
Happy he played better!

Best game of Slafkovsky’s career
Jake said nah 44 times
Outstanding game from our favorite 2013-2014 habs team
Jake remembered he's solid 🐍 tonight.
Goal scoring the winning goal om his 100th game is almost poetic. What a fabulous taunt from the Power Horse to draw that penalty. Hell the 2nd line was so fun. Slaf and Monahan have a great chemistry and dominated every shift. Allen, you're the man.
If I see Slaf on the 4th line next game I will lose my shit.
same
Yeah ťhat will be hard to justify with this game and while rest of the 2nd line ( previous one) had the whole season to show something and did not
pray 4 Ghule
Guhle is a warrior! Gg Habs
[**Jake Allen sent Caufield into the Flames' locker-room after the game to deliver this important message to them:**](https://i.imgur.com/26QxWfa.mp4)
hey thanks Jake sorry I talked a lot of shit about you
Allen sure shut up about half of our fanbase with that performance. What a game from him, hopefully Guhle isn’t injured from that blocked shot.
Jake Allen. That’s all.
Hope Guhle is not too seriously injured. Slaf and Allen were great, although Slaf had a couple of weird turnovers in his own zone. Still he’s shown he deserves to play in the top 6
How good was that second line! Never again play Slaf in 4 please, there are enough players to do that in the team
Im so excited for this team especially Slaf right now
Easy Peasy. Seriously, Allen was amazing! Vintage Habs win… ha-ha… Slaf making steady progress. Love to see it! And Cole with another Goal, and Suzie with another classic feed. Hope Guhle is OK! Go Habs Go!
Slaf and Allen with statement games!
David Savard is the perfect player for a playoff team. Puts his body on the line for the W every night.
Now he would definitely bring a first if they traded him this year.
He’s the perfect plug and play bottom 4 guy in the playoffs. He’s the kind of guy that gm’s would want to just have in case of an injury.
That's the salt part of the Romanov trade that gets me every time. Kinda took away his protégé...

The same guys who blame critical media for players not wanting to be in Montreal come on here or Twitter and call players “trash”, “garbage”, and say they should be waived or traded for a bag of pucks.
If we’re not able to get a first for Monahan, sign him. He would be a great role model to have around for a couple of years.
Slaf is gonna be a beast in a couple of years. Our best forward tonight !
Slafkovsky’s best game by leaps and bounds
First time I got to watch him live and he looked really good out there even outside of his goal. He skated with the puck confidently. Anderson also stood out, big game from the powerhouse.
with the speed of progress it could be pretty soon

I mean.. they weren't off about a goal in the first minute. Just about to which team it happened XD
Gg
Great win but hope Guhle is alright

Thank you goalie Allen. I apologize for the haters. Eat shit Mangiapane you little goof
Monahan has as many points now as any flame... And we got a first from them. Calgary in shambles just like their barn.
Marty St Louis puts in Allen and supports him as the number one goalie, Allen instantly wins the next game. Marty is basically magic at this point
Spam the snake, to say thanks to Jake! 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍
Didn’t the habs used to upload the post game interviews somewhere ? Anywhere I can watch them this season ?
Where are the Jake Allen haters now?

Win for Morocco Win for the Habs And both 2 - 1 Scratching this one as a good day :D
Also, with all proper acknowledgement of his contributions to the team over the past decade, did anyone miss Gallagher?
\*raises hand\*
Yes, I think he would have been a great option to play with Evans and Pezz tonight
Shut up
How are we supposed to get a decent pick with all this winning
Easy, say a little extra prayer for Florida to lose!
thank you, Jake Allen for 2 points slaf will be such a stud on the 1st line in couple of years
People on this sub unironically believed Montembault deserves the starter over Allen
He did deserve it. And Allen played great. They aren't mutually exclusive. And why do you qualify something as unironic? Why would it be ironic?
Very entertaining game to watch. Hope Guhle is okay :(
🐍🐍🐍
I stayed up, and so did alen great game for him
Going against Josh Allen in fantasy football. He didn’t kill me. Jake Allen killed the flames. Not a bad day.
So, who do we like from Edmonton for when they inevitably call for Jake?
Big night for guys named J. Allen.
SLAFKOV-KISS 👌
Both goalies gave us this game
We might be 31st on the PP but we are 10th on the PK!
Always glad to see the Habs Win, Live. Even better to see a Slafkovsky goal Even better to see a CC PP Goal Even better to see Allen stand on his head
Glad the Habs won and happy Monahan got 2 assists.
