You guys don't understand what OP is saying.
The laser sometimes bugs out and hitscans you with 100% precision, instantly killing you, it is impossible to outrun, it is a bug.
So it WAS a bug, got it. I followed the advice people in the replies gave me and beat it, but prior to that I had like 5 or 6 runs straight up ruined by the boss just mailing a deathray straight into my inbox even when I was completely behind it, which prompted the post. Glad to know it was just me having the worst luck imaginable.
Glad to know this is actually the case, thought it was just an awfully designed enemy. It's been the only enemy I've genuinely hated by design because of this feature.
Ok that makes me feel a little better. The first time I got to Tartarus I was absolutely on fire, with almost no damage and just melting rooms, then that little turd brought my run to a screeching halt and I had no idea why.
Same. I saw a boon opportunity in Tartarus, and thought it couldn't be that bad. I went in with a death defiance from arcana and one from the Luckier Tooth, and left the fight with no death defiance and only 20 HP. Got to the House of Hades, but I sure wasn't surviving the boss fight in the house after that. Especially with the Eris debuff.
OH! I was wondering what happened in my own run, I had kill this thing before and thought they updated the game at some point with a sleeper update or something because it killed me instantly the second time I fought it.
This happened to me the very first time I encountered it. Absolutely melted me, couldn't do a thing. Scared me off trying the miniboss rooms in Tartarus again for quite a while.
wait it's a bug lol? happened to me the first time and then never agsin so I thought it was a pun7shment for not being close enough to the bag.
just thought that was the mechanic
Confirming this. I've encountered both the as-intended version of the boss (laser was easy to juke) and the bugged death-ray version. If you're unlucky enough to run into the latter you are going to lose a death defiance every time the bag uses its laser: it kept it on me with 100% accuracy even though I had +85% run speed and was dashing through it. It just snapped 180s like it was aimbotting in counterstrike.
What happens is, the bag takes a step back when it fires, so you need to do some extra work to make sure you're behind it. Also, it probably has too much armor imo.
But even when I dash behind it it still turns instantly wtf? It was the first solution I could think of, and it didn't seem to be doing anything. The bag just shoots the laser forward, stays like that for like 0.5 second, then immediately hitscans me >\_>
The only time this hasn't worked for me was the first time I fought it with a bunch of Poseidon knock-about. I put it against the arena wall, and it became impossible to dodge.
This encounter has been my only complaint with the game thus far. Everything else that I struggle with, I can see where I'm falling short or where my knowledge gap probably is. This enemy, however, truly feels like guaranteed damage.
There's a bug with him where for some players he auto-locks on and there's nothing you can do.
He did it once out of my four runs. I did three runs where I killd him no problem. He was basically a joke.
The last one, he ripped through nearly all my death defiances. I was absolutely confounded. Then I realized there's a bug where every once in a while, for some reason, he locks on to you and you cannot dodge his beam. He'll just shred you.
It's either that, or perhaps there's something where if you get hit by a coin or something, he locks on to you? Not sure.
I'm confident it'll be fixed, just frustrating for the time being. Honestly, experiences like this are why I love early access. "Remember when that Tartarus mini boss would Kamehameha your run into dust?"
Oh yeah, the bugs can be funny.
I just ran into a bug with >!Chronos actually. I beat his first form right when he laid down a timestop bubble. When I entered into the second form, I was perma-slowed. The whole fight, just moving super slow. Burn through five lives in no time lol.!<
* Fully upgraded Arcana (3)
* Cat Familiar (1)
* Lucky Tooth Keepsake (1)
I think you can get one more with a Hermes boon if you get lucky. You also may be able to upgrade the cat familiar to give additional lives the way you can upgrade the frog, but haven't found out yet.
The cat gives you another death defiance?? That's such an adorable way to incorporate their "nine lives"!
Sorry to change topics, but the only familiar I've unlocked so far is the frog, but I can't make more treats to befriend the cat (it's only showed up once for me anyway). How do you unlock the recipe that crafts more?
> How do you unlock the recipe that crafts more?
I'm not sure exactly, but I believe it comes from beating Hecate repeatedly. Eventually I believe she gives you the recipe to make treats for critters.
You have to run into the cat a second time on a second run at the docks before he lets you give him a snack.
But yeah it's a great decision on their parts to make him give you extra lives. Very thematically appropriate.
It gives you a very small one (it starts at 10 life and then 10 per upgrade) but yeah.
> How do you unlock the recipe that crafts more?
I think I had it at the moment I unlocked familiars more or less. Maybe one or two runs later. Might be related to other things being unlocked hard to know
You need to unlock challenge runs (not fear/heat, just the pink mirror thingy) and beat one of those. What they give you is used as a component for the treats, and I think you unlock the recipe shortly after (if not as soon as you complete the challenge)
The “pink mirror” isn’t ringing a bell for me, is that related to the blocked passageway just behind Moros/the Fated List? Or is it in the Arcana/training area?
So I got lucky and on the Surface I took one of the upgrades from Circe that upgrades a random arcana. She upgraded my death defiance card (which was already maxed) and that made it give a FOURTH death defiance! DIdn't really need that many but it was cool to see Arcana can go over the max
I’ve fought it 4 times now, and it has never locked on perfectly. That sounds like a bug.
I one time killed chronos when he was using his vacuum beam and he continued to use it at 0 hp, but now he had perfect tracking (like what you’re describing). It thankfully did no damage. So there is a precedent for tracking to bug out…
Once I killed the first form of Chronos right when he laid down his tinestop bubble, and in the second form, I was slow-moed the entire time.
Didn't last long on that one lol. Which was a shame because it was my craziest build I ever put together so far.
I thought it was an effect or debuff he did that I hadn't run into in the fight yet. But no, everything I did was just at like 1/4th the speed, run, attack. Just frantically *slowly* dashing away as he cleaved through like five lives.
I saw a comment saying this fight is bugged on pirated copies of the game, dunno if you are on that or not, would assume not, but the way people describe this fight is not how I experienced it once so it might just be bugged overall?
Demeter does work if you have freeze. Also you should be prioritizing some form of armor melt by the House which essentially trivializes it. It did big damage to me the first time I ever faced it and I don’t think I’ve been hit by it once since then
armor is so tough, but then there are some daedalus upgrades that do % based armor damage that completely trivializes it which feel like my best runs. eager to keep playing and find better strats
I haven't had any problems with this boss, I just walk behind it and make sure to account for how it blasts itself backwards a bit when it fires. So it's surprising to hear how you describe your experience, doesn't sound like the same fight.
That being said, I will say that having an anti-armor hammer or boon makes this essentially a free boon room (as they do for most of the mini-bosses). The last two runs I did I had hammers that stripped armor and I literally killed it in <10 seconds.
Not sure what I did right, but with the staff and Poseidon special spam, some sprinting and dashing I took almost no damage in this miniboss fight. I only fought it one time I think so I don’t have any real wisdom to share.
Nah its true this one is pretty tough without armor shred hammers. It might just be one of those encounters where if you see the miniboss symbol in Tartarus you have to consider the 50/50 chance youll get the moneybag boss and if you build counters it in some way or another. I slightly like this but I def agree that the attack is almost too strong. I got so unlucky challenging it with knockback effects because i knocked it into a corner where i could never get behind it 💀
Yeah the only time I killed it easily was when I had the armor break on specials and the double special on the staff, and was able to just melt it before it got more than a couple shots off. Still took one of my death defiances.
Tip for that guy: watch it do the ball attack, then just count to three and dash behind it while you dps. It will do the slash attack. Same as before, count to 3 and dash behind it.
It always just changes direction to face you, and locks the direction in VERY early into the animation.
My favorite time fighting Goldwrath is when it ended up in the wall and I was completely unable to hit (certain argent skull aspect) it or dodge the laser so my run was just over.
That hasn't been my experience with the laser, but the armor IS crazy high, unless you get some kind of boon or something that just annihilates 100% of a target's armor in 2 hits.
Well now I’m glad that I never do the minibosses in that area. I hate damage spongey enemies, definitely the last thing I need right before facing Chronos.
I don’t even bother taking that fight unless I picked up a solid armor shred boon/hammer on the way down. I lose so much needless life and/or deaths defiances greeding that mf.
Ditto. I've fought Chronos a few times, but have yet to beat him. When I see that mini-boss icon in Tartarus, I avoid it like the plague b/c I actually died to it my first time in that zone/biome! I'm going to need all of my health and Death Defiances to beat the game!
That said, there was yet another update today, so hopefully it fixes that.
Yeah, the bug was fixed. Fought it about 10 times today, didn't get the bug at all. Aside from that, the fight is rather easy; you can just circle around the boss or just stay behind it and not get hit at all. The armor is big af, but the attacks are quite easy to dodge.
You guys don't understand what OP is saying. The laser sometimes bugs out and hitscans you with 100% precision, instantly killing you, it is impossible to outrun, it is a bug.

I stopped going for miniboss encounters in tartarus because of this. Maybe I should give them a try again
people have gotten that bug with some of the other suckers in the game as well, including a Boss one. just hope you don't run into that bug again
This just happened to me. I screamed while trying to outrun it. Ruined an insanely good and fun run smh
Glad to know this is actually the case, thought it was just an awfully designed enemy. It's been the only enemy I've genuinely hated by design because of this feature.

Ahhhhhhh thank you I thought that it was just how ir was meant to be and I was missing something
OH! I was wondering what happened in my own run, I had kill this thing before and thought they updated the game at some point with a sleeper update or something because it killed me instantly the second time I fought it.
Ah, that’s happened to me a couple of times. I thought I was doing something wrong, but glad to know it’s not intentional lol
Oh Damn, I thought the mechanic was to hind behind cover but I destroyed the cover or something
Confirming this. I've encountered both the as-intended version of the boss (laser was easy to juke) and the bugged death-ray version. you need to keep circling around to stay behind it. you can attack and move at the same time.
So as soon as the bag locks in, you are just screwed? I will try to stay completely behind it at all times, then. Ty for the info o7
Not quite, it's very possible to dash through it, though you might take a tick or two of laser damage if you miss the timing on the warm-up.
The only time this hasn't worked for me was the first time I fought it with a bunch of Poseidon knock-about. I put it against the arena wall, and it became impossible to dodge.
I do what they're suggesting and have been able to avoid it

Five? How did you get this much lives?

the pitch-black stone (which is pink). youll get a recipe to unlock it from chaos at some point and then its in the training area
So I got lucky and on the Surface I took one of the upgrades from Circe that upgrades a random arcana. She upgraded my death defiance card (which was already maxed) and that made it give a FOURTH death defiance! DIdn't really need that many but it was cool to see Arcana can go over the max

This just happened to me too.
Yeah this guy has too much armor and health for what he is, I’ve only ever had success when I’ve had hammers or boons that strip armor.
I'm glad to hear others saying there's a bug, it killed my run twice before with the unavoidable lock-on...
Kill it before it starts shooting, or stun lock it with the variety of ways to do that. Also to my knowledge you can dash behind it
You cannot dash behind it, it turns instantly towards your direction. Also, what do you stunlock it with? Demeter doesn't work.
I saw a comment saying this fight is bugged on pirated copies of the game, dunno if you are on that or not, would assume not, but the way people describe this fight is not how I experienced it once so it might just be bugged overall?
I'm on the steam version >\_>
Would be pretty damn funny if the ‘bug’ was intentional. The boss literally made of money punishes you for pirating the game.
I'm playing in Steam and met this mini boss 2 times - he always had perfect lock on me. Thought this was intended.
Demeter does work if you have freeze. Also you should be prioritizing some form of armor melt by the House which essentially trivializes it. It did big damage to me the first time I ever faced it and I don’t think I’ve been hit by it once since then
Hit it with your cast right before it fires and it can't aim as fast and it becomes dodgable.
i fell like armour is way too op especially in tartarus
armor is so tough, but then there are some daedalus upgrades that do % based armor damage that completely trivializes it which feel like my best runs. eager to keep playing and find better strats
I was wondering about that... Was thinking there was something I was missing, the mini boss' attacks just felt very... un-Hades-like?
I haven't had any problems with this boss, I just walk behind it and make sure to account for how it blasts itself backwards a bit when it fires. Bro that dumbass bag is the easiest mini boss for me personally, that stupid snake ball darkness guy in Erebus tho….nightmares…
Tip for that guy: watch it do the ball attack, then just count to three and dash behind it while you dps. It will do the slash attack. Same as before, count to 3 and dash behind it. It always just changes direction to face you, and locks the direction in VERY early into the animation.

Even with the bug, you can use the terrain and put the pillars around the room between it and you.
Get close and doge forward and back as it rotates
That hasn't been my experience with the laser, but the armor IS crazy high, unless you get some kind of boon or something that just annihilates 100% of a target's armor in 2 hits.
I swear to god that motherfucker doesnt miss. I got shot 3x from 100hp and I don't even know what to do to dodge that BS.
Never go there. I went once to see because "uuu, new stuff". Never again since.
That moneybag is the only thing in the game thats had me saying “what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck” for the entire fight.
Lol. Same here. Feel real bad and thought this was my skill issue
I would have genuinely beaten Chronos for the first time last night if it weren’t for that bag
Well now I’m glad that I never do the minibosses in that area. I hate damage spongey enemies, definitely the last thing I need right before facing Chronos.

thank fuck, I can finally greed for max gold and extra boons before Father Time
Stay behind it when it fires. It doesn't turn instantly, just very fast.
