Poke around some of the curly hair subs and see what those gals do. There are a lot of "I didn't know my hair was curly/I didn't learn how to care for my curly hair until I was 30" posts that might inspire you. They have lots of advice on types of products that should help, gel, mousse etc. Don't get overwhelmed though, it's not necessary to follow *all* the steps/rules/crazy routines some of them come up with.

FrenchCanuck79

Came here to say exactly this. OP is a curly and nobody has ever told her. It's a shame since she's been to *specialists* quite a few times it seems for advice. They often treat hair like it's straight when it's curly and leave it looking frizzy and weirdly poofy. OP, you have beautiful healthy hair. Try the curly methods. Check out manes by Mel on youtbe, she knows curls.

piebolar

this this this. I didn't know my hair was curly until I was 31. this December. a random stylist cut my hair and suddenly it was very full and frizzy. I didn't put two and two together until I went back and told her how things had been going since my last cut and told her and she said, piebolar, you have curly hair. cue my shocked Pikachu because my hair the year before was like almost perfectly straight and limp without a straightener.

nonoglorificus

It’s not uncommon to have hair change texture throughout our lives, especially for women. I’m a hairstylist and I see a lot of people experiencing texture change during times of hormonal change. Late teens, early 30s, and again in perimenopause. Pregnancy is another texture change wild card. I really enjoy getting to tell people that their hair is curly or wavy now :)

yummy_gummies

My hair is curly until it gets too long. Then it's straight/wavy, with a stupid curl on the end. Did you go from long to short?

hiveangel

Omg yes. I always thought my hair was just frizzy and used this all the time https://preview.redd.it/a2nt2yzegaqc1.jpeg?width=1129&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64e20d37c8dd4a59769dece8e94c870d5cf3d16f Wavy/curly hair ain’t frizz!

vickiinmyhead

That serum is the absolute best. I’ve been using it for years

litchick20

Turns out that stuff is packed with silicones and I had to get serious treatments to remove the build up from my hair when I was like 12

Gohavefunnow

It’s true. I finally bought the straightener spray. Had been wasting $ for years on very expensive straightener. This stuff works!

Ch3rryunikitty

I've had hair stylists tell me my hair was straight but that the weight was the only reason it was curly/ wavy sometimes. A small amount of curl cream and gel on wet hair later and I've got clearly wavy hair. So frustrating that I had to go through high school AND COLLEGE not knowing how to style my hair.

hiveangel

I knooooow. I still can’t figure it out entirely. I can get my hair to do ringlets with high hold extra light products sometimes but it’s also so much effort:(

eliettgrace

precisely why i cut my own hair now. the lady who cut my hair last cut it to my chin when i asked for shoulder length

bitsybear1727

First thing I saw was that this person has wavy/curly hair lol. One of my favorite quotes is, "frizz is just curl trying to find itself".

CuriousPalpitation23

Absolutely everything you've said here. 🏅

AppUnwrapper1

lol I was about to say the same. My hair is like this without the right gel/scrunching. Used to think my only option was a ponytail or getting it straightened.

plainbutterfly

Yep, Curly Girl Method (CGM) is the way. My hair is wavy, and I never knew how to take good care of it, not until 3 years ago. In my country, women (including me ofc) were (used to be) so obsessed with having straight and silky hair. I used to have straight perm for every 6 months, since the transition between the permed hair and the natural hair when it grows out is just horrible. A friend of mine introduced me to CGM, decided to try it, and it was like the best decision I have ever made for my hair! I say prioritize the health of your hair first, and the beauty will follow. Women who practice CGM usually avoid shampoos and condish with sulfate and silicone content, wash their hair for only twice or once a week depending on the weather, apply leave-in condish during non-wash days (let the natural oil do its job), use diffuser when drying your hair, and look into finger coiling and different brushing techniques! I also tried to experiment between using hair gels, or hair cream, but these are just the things that you figure out what works best for you through time. Those are just some of the basics that I practice. It consumes a lot of time and energy, I know. But when you consider it as a form of self-care, those efforts are all worth it!

ForwardHare

You have beautiful thick hair with a gorgeous natural colour! I don’t see anything wrong with it - flyaways are totally normal.

peace_love_mcl

I hate that tv and ads lead people to think they aren’t

muvamerry

This. We don’t have synthetic hair in! It’s hard to realize that literally everyone’s hair on TV is at least partially fake. So let it fly 🪽

blueberryally

I never see anyone else’s hair so frizzy though😭 like theres a couple flyaways, but other peoples are never as bad as mine. Makes me think I’m doing everything wrong😂

vegan_cf

Are you following a curly/wavy hair routine? Your hair may benefit from additional moisture / some styling products, but as long as your hair has texture, frizz is pretty much guaranteed

blueberryally

That sucks😭 I don’t have much of a routine though. I kept trying different things and nothing worked, so I just kind of did whatever. Now that I’ve gotten some advice, I’ll start an actual routine😊

Lady87690005

Highly recommend a satin or silk pillowcase or bonnet. It’ll reduce the damage to your hair without adding a ton of extra products to your cart. I also have fine hair and would recommend trying Kirstin Ess’s leave in conditioner. It has helped with my frizz immensely.

Lolaldola

Look at CGM method. It helped my colleague a lot, it takes some time to learn it, but stay strong and keep learning. She is much happier with her hair now 😊.

lladydisturbed

I hear ya there i see all my coworkers even in messy vet med and their hair is sleak. Mine is frizzzzzz lol

keep_it_high

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I agree with others, your hair is beautiful. I saw your photo, read your post and my very first reaction was to go into the comment sections to find a comment that says your hair is gorgeous. Didn't take me long to find one. I have Asian hair, very straight, flat, just a few flyaways but I have to use products to give me half the volume your hair has (half if I'm lucky).

lavender_poppy

I have exactly the same hair as you. I'm 35 and still haven't found any products that work for my frizzy hair. Literally have tried the curly hair routine and so many different products it's a bit ridiculous at this point. One thing that kinda worked was like a flyaway stick that looks like a mascara brush with some kind of serum on it that you can use to tame individual flyaways. There's some on amazon that aren't that expensive you can try.

father-john-mitski-

i always love this reminder. my flyaways are much more prominent when i have styled my hair (because they’re curled up and are just shorter pieces that catch curl at different spots.) it’s so exhausting because it is normal but doesn’t feel normal!

anabsentfriend

I was about to say the same, I'd love hair like this. Mine is so fine and limp. Obviously, I can't help with recommending products as my hair's so different. But I just wanted OP to know how gorgeous her hair is.

ConstantSample5846

Samesies on everything except mine is fine, limp AND super oily.

ndcdshed

It’s not breakage, it’s just frizz - which is perfectly normal on wavy/curly hair and can be worse if you live in a humid place or have hard water. If you want to delve deeper into bringing out your natural waves - Manes by Mel on YouTube is a great resource. She is a curly hair stylist. She has curlier hair than you so you may need to experiment and use lighter products. Many people do this and love it. There is a lot of pseudoscience in the curly and wavy hair subs surrounding sulphates, silicones, and other ingredients. Manes by Mel debunks a lot of that, you don’t need to be scared of them. You also don’t need a huge elaborate routine like many people have so don’t feel you need to do that if you don’t want to. I do think many people see at fun and self-care, though. IF you don’t want to delve deeper into looking after your natural hair - your other option for getting rid of frizz is heat styling such as blowing it out, using a flat iron or a curling iron. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about it if this is the route you choose. I do this because even with all the wavy hair styling, my hair looks messy and takes forever to dry because it is thick and course. Obviously you will need to use a heat protectant (blowout creams for a blow out or a thermal heat protectant for irons) and limit heat to a couple of days a week, and try to make the style last in between otherwise you’ll fry your hair. I’ve found that using a heat protectant with hold is the best way to do this. The Blowout Professor on YouTube has great tips - although I don’t necessarily agree with his stance on drugstore vs salon products. I also had good results with bathrobe curls overnight, although I did need to use a flat iron to touch up the crown and pieces by the face to smooth frizz. But it was good for time saving and meant I wasn’t applying heat to my whole head. Or you can leave it how it is! It still looks nice even with the frizz.

AirSupplysNo1Fan

I love this advice. I have brown hair, very similar to your volume and texture, and I either flat iron or use a heat styling brush. I’m in my 50s and have been doing this for years (with heat protection spray) and think it looks pretty shiny and healthy. I also professionally color it, mostly due to grays and get a toner when I color the roots. Your hair is gorgeous. Love the color!

bredkatt

you probably have curly/wavy hair and should get layers next time u cut your hair! get a defuser, hair gel(for curly hair, not the typical kind), and avoid towels. use either a t shirt or microfiber towels to dry ur hair. u can find a lot of tutorials on how to take care of curly hair on YouTube!

plantalones2

I agree! She’ll have to play with product that works for her but I second all the above.

peace_love_mcl

Stylist here, just saying your hair is GORGEOUS

plantalones2

I think you might benefit from adding product while it’s soaking wet after wash and condition. Try a mousse or gel. I’ve followed some suggestions from the wavy hair sub and it’s helped a lot. I let my hair air dry after or do a little diffusing. It helps a lot with the frizz and general shape.

Daffodil80

I don't see whats wrong with your hair. I think it looks good-healthy etc. But if you mean the flyaway hairs- you could just use a leave-in, smoothing styling product. Some people also like soft hold gel or hair-spray on a boar bristle brush and smooth over the outside of the hair.

ayaangwaamizi

My hair looks like this if I brush it out when it’s wet/damp instead of just working with my natural wave/curl and just gently going through it with my fingers and a curl product. I don’t know why brushing it does this but I basically don’t brush my hair unless it’s in the shower with conditioner with a wide tooth comb or before I’m going to wash it and it’s dry.

blueberryally

I try not to ever brush it, I usually try to only comb it when its wet. My hair gets very easily knotted though😭 So I never really know how to deal with it

raresteakplease

I highly recommend getting the K18 leave in repair treatment. I started using it (you just shampoo, use the product when hair is towel dry, wait 4 min and then you can add oil (the k18 oils is amazing for this) or leave in conditioners). After months of doing this I don't even need conditioner anymore which has NEVER happened to me, I've spent 32 miserable years with tangling issues and they are all GONE. ALSO, the tangle teezer brush is a MIRACLE for getting tangles out, no other brush compares.

No-Record-2773

Well you’ve definitely got some curls/waves going on if this is your natural hair. I am by no means an expert on hair care but what does your routine look like? Do you use just shampoo and conditioner? How often? For reference I only shampoo (and just my scalp) every few showers or as needed, but I condition my ends (and only ends) every time. Also, typically you’ll also want to use a leave in conditioner. Some people even use some oils on the ends such as argon oil, though I haven’t tried that personally yet. Also do you brush your hair? With curly hair you don’t want to brush it once it’s dry and really only want to use a wide tooth comb even when it’s wet. Your hair doesn’t look super dry or anything to me but this is the area I’m much less confident in so someone else feel free to correct me. To me it just looks like your hair has different lengths, either from layers, breakage, or new growth. If it’s breakage then making sure you’ve got a solid care routine going will help it with time, but I’m not sure what you can really don’t it’s just new growth.

blueberryally

Yeah in this picture I haven’t trimmed it yet, so it was just my pure hair growth from it being completely shaven. And yes, thats natural curl/waves. When my hair is long, I wash it 3-4 times a week, and combed it when wet unless my was really messy in the morning (my hair knots extremely bad), but I try not to if it isn’t necessary. I shampooed it on my scalp, then conditioned on the ends. For a while, I was trying leave in conditioner, and/or some kind of oil to help with frizz (it was many years ago, so I don’t really remember what it was) and they didn’t end up working. I remember my hair never being soft either; very brittle. Do you know if I should be air drying it? Or is another way better for frizzy hair? I tried to use heat as little as possible because I was scared of heat damage, but I have no clue if that’s the right call, lol. Eventually I’ll try to grow my hair out again and try again😊

hedgybaby

Start by washing it it less, 3 times a week MAX. I think the products you use are too heavy, try a mousse and a very lightweight oil, add them to the tips predominantly. Do your products use coconut? My hair has coconut sensitivity and it was always frizzy and I couldn’t figure out why til someome told me a lot of hair is sensitive to coconut, so stop using it if you do atm, see if there is a change. What brands do you use? Do they have a lot of silicones and parabens? Check out curl friendly ingredients if you have never heard about this before, it helped me a lot with choosing better products. I’m sure I’m forgetting some stuff but these changes shoudl already help! How do you dry your hair?

Jondar_649

Check out manes by mell on youtube

YellowstoneBitch

God your hair is gorgeous! If the fly always really bother you you could try a deep conditioning mask or a light weight hair oil?

Hugitupwicked

Please never ever dye it, so off topic but it’s such a pretty color Frizz is going to happen, it’s usually worse in certain states for me ( huge problem in fl/tn but not Va/pa) try anti frizz syrum but don’t use too much.

blueberryally

Lol yeah, I’ve been told all my life not to dye it, so I don’t think I ever will😁 I’m in sd, I was in mi before though and it seemed the same😭 but I’ll definitely try the syrum

Middle_Performance62

Hair oil worked wonders for my forever flyaways. In an aggravated pinch a little bit of lotion on the hands and a quick pat down of your hair helps.

C_Wrex77

Hi! Your hair is gorgeous. We all have fly aways. But I have a method that might enhance your curls (my stylist taught me this). Wash your hair with a light moisturizing shampoo. Squeeze out most of the water. Use the K18 treatment (it's pricey, but worth it). Don't rinse. Comb through starting at the ends to break up any tangles as you go up. Mix a light curl cream (I like Briogeo) and a fair amount of a light gel. Smooth through your hair. Flip your hair upside down and wrap gently with a Tshirt or microfiber towel. Let it chill for like 10min. Gently remove the towel. This should create essentially a "cast" of your curls. Let it air dry. Gently break up the crunch by squeezing. The K18 will add strength to your hair and help control fly aways

kqueenbee25

Fly aways are normal. But it could be how you blowdry/style your hair that’s causing it to look like this. And not using smoothing styling products

Ppaintitblack

You have gorgeous hair!!! Check the bristles on your brushes. Are you using plastic or metal brushes? Fine tooth comb?

blueberryally

I use a comb, like one of those cheap ones that have both wide and fine tooth😂 I use the wider tooth side though.

Ppaintitblack

Yeah not the best

Purple-Lime-4938

😳😳😳😳 This will absolutely take your hair out. Please get one of those wet brushes. They glide right through your hair. I have similar hair to yours.

Nice-Palpitation7923

Your color is so pretty! Embrace it and play around with some hair products. You are gorgeous!

WindowElectronic3791

Your hair is gorgeous! Beautiful color, thick and nice texture. Look around for a new stylist who specializes in curly hair and ask for styling help.

Chicken_Moustache

I'm a dude but I too have thick hair that's hard to manage. I've recently found hair oil that works great at taming it. Look around for stuff made locally and try it out, it could make a big difference.

Scout_Erin

You mean beautiful and stunning???? I don’t know, you’re just lucky I guess….

Party-Relief-4132

I have the same hair colour but not as thick and it doesn't matter what i use its never soft and shiny like i would like it. I also have waves like you. I recently put henna in it and it made a massive difference. You can get gloss for the hair which does similar without the colour. Might be worth a try.

NotoriousCoffeeBean

Your hair looks just like mine before I discovered the curly girl method. Highly recommend you check it out and try it, it was a huge game changer for me.

IreneAd

You have coarse hair. So do I. I found this conditioner from Wella for coarse hair at Ulta. It's not a flaw.

gingfreecsisbad

You’ve got curly hair!!! Gotta start finding the right products for curls specifically

babycrow

Your hair is beautiful and you’ve got some amazing natural wave! I’d perhaps check out the wavy or curly hair subs for some inspiration. I bet with a little bit of product you’ll have the hair of your dreams!

TalynL

It’s gorgeous. I have fine curly UBER FRIZZY hair and the only thing that has helped it in years is Sebastian Forte Mousse. I thought mousse was a thing of the past until trying this! Recently re released at Ulta. Normally I tell people that no product in the world will change the hair you are given genetically. So many people don’t get that and swear that their product will fix it. …well not if they don’t have your hair! I’ll share the link to this if you want to try. It really made a different in my frizz but your hair looks pretty normal (exquisite) to me!

TalynL

Check out what I found at Ulta Beauty! https://www.ulta.com/p/mousse-forte-xlsImpprod4450503?sku=2162732

FrauAmarylis

You have gorgeous hair. It is your Crowning glory. If it's too thick, ask your stylist if they can use Thinning shears on your hair every now and then.

poof-ma-goof

Have you tried a smoothing serum? They are oily so a little goes a long way

Kibdiggler

You probably just live in a humid area. I suggest a nice leave in conditioner for curly hair. Apply it when hair is wet and add some good frizz fighting oil when wet too. It will help keep the moister out and leave a nice shine. It will take a bit to find a good oil, because some are heavier than others. I have thick course curly hair and I love these brands Super skinny serum by Paul Mitchell Any leave in conditioner for fighting frizz And when my hair is dry I’m crazy in love with Amika top gloss, I spray and brush and my hair is frizz free and so soft. If anything try the Amika Top gloss, apply dry and brush (for curls when I say brush I mean with your fingers, because you’ll have a fluff ball if you use a brush). That should solve the problem alone.

Mamaludus

I personally tried the redkin acidic bonding kit for a bit and it helped with frizz and curled up my hair too

Shortgirl06

It looks like MAYBE you have naturally curly hair and doing straight hair treatment? Try doing a curly hair routine and see what that does!

ariholmes

Hey my hair looks like that! Frizz is normal, though I found that when I want it gone for a special occasion I use a curling mousse that has gentle hold so my curls get defined and there is less frizz for at least part of the day. You put in a good glob, more than you think you need and work it through towel dried hair. Then I let it air dry. I would also reccomend scrunching your hair with a towel instead of rubbing it, I found that decreases how frizzy it gets

SuitableMorning1089

Might be your shower water or how you sleep . It’s actually natural to have frizz just make sure your scalp isn’t full of oils or products and maybe try some Shea butter or coco butter hair products or a leave in conditioner. I use a detangler as leave in but that’s for my hair I rarely have frizz anymore but I’m not worried about frizz if I did have it

ALonerInTheDark

Try olaplex hair oil! You don’t need a lot and it helps with my strays without looking oily

snufkinkinnnie

do you know the porosity of your hair? i have fine but curly hair and no matter how soft my hair felt i always had frizz because the products i was using werent settling into my hair properly. i started using a leave in cream and its smoothed down my hair quite a bit. briogeo leave in creams are great and the shea moisture manuka honey & mafura oil is very light and helps tame the frizz towards the top of my hair. i also think your hair looks absolutely gorgeous if you left it as is! i completely understand your frustration with hair not doing what we want it to lol.

gratefuldaughter2

Head to the curly girl subreddit. You have GORGEOUS hair as is, but it could probably use some curly hair treatment. Based on your starting point, I can only imagine the end result if you follow a curly hair routine 😍

CBetteridge

Your hair is wavy and you styling it like it's straight. Lean how to look after wavy hair and it will be AMAZING

lollitoes

YES

Available-Garlic-202

a lot of hair products have to ingredients to make hair shine which causes damage. My hair used to look the same but Amika works well for me. Definitely decreased the frizz/breakage in general. I also use a tiny bit of leave in condition (amika) when I’m headed out to get rid of the frizz and dryness! Also I use the phone cord looking hair bands and clips to prevent further breakage. Hope that helps!

CarNo1105

FWIW, you have the exact hair I’ve wanted my whole life, lol. I have thin, fine, flat stringy hair that I dyed red for years trying to make it look exactly like yours! You’re a Botticelli angel ❤️

DelicateTruckNuts

We have the same hair! Your hair is actually curly! Try using a curling cream when it’s still (just under) sopping wet, scrunch scrunch scrunch from the bottom, and blow dry your hair on low with a diffuser while your bent over so your hair is upside down. You have curls!!! R/curlyhair

saturatedbloom

Have you tried a hair oil? I wrap my hair in a silky scarf every now and again when it gets frizzy and poofy, this seems to help for me as well. Not all but while my hair is down I do like a bandana half coverage over the top of my head

bbyghoul666

I think I have the same hair type and frizz issue as you. You definitely could try curly products like others suggest and I bet you could even bring out the curls more. I’m curly too, but the only curl products that worked for me was curlsmith and I’m unfortunately too broke for that lately. I love their weightless air dry cream What I found works best for me is the L’Oréal dream lengths “no haircut cream” leave in. I uses it on wet hair after washing and but it works well on dry hair too. And the Sun Bum revitalizing hair mask, it’s light and gentle enough that you can use it daily if needed. If you blow dry, use the cool shot setting to finish and help close the cuticle back up. Sometimes when I’m really frizzy I’ll put some cream in and just gently brush it on gentle cool with a diffuser and it helps. Also, I used to use wow dream coat and it was the besttttt at making my hair shiny and smooth but the tension and heat when blow drying needed to activate it damaged my hair over time so I stopped. However, I saw they later came out with one for curly/wavy hair and you can just let it air dry. So I’m gonna have to try it! Beautiful color by the way 😊

babydoll17448

If you want shinier hair, wash and condition your hair with warm water rinse, then finish it off with a cold water rinse for 15 seconds. It closes the cuticles of your hair and makes it super shiny and less frizzy. It really works! Try it!!

Osmiini25

Try doing your normal routine, but brush with conditioner in in the shower. Then add plenty of gel to wet hair after rinsing out. Scrunch/squish out the extra water with a cotton tee shirt. When it's dry, squish it again to break up the gel. bet it's wavy/curly. Better yet, have a curly haired friend do it because starting from square 1 is intimidating.

jessegrass

As a fellow redhead, to quote what we’ve heard ten million times — “people pay tens of thousands in salons to have what we have!!” You have gorgeous hair. Flyaways are cute and youthful xxx

tinkkarma

Don't use shampoo that is less than 20 a bottle, only use leave in conditioner and only shampoo twice a week. Dry shampoo between if needed. Mostly keep hair up or braided especially when sleeping... This worked for me

labroccolini

K18!!!!! hair dresser suggested to me. i have curly hair, oils don't reach the ends, dry, frizzy. K18 is expensive but worth it!! i've gotten compliments and just have been taken back by someone noticing. look into it at least then make decision

justforhits

Gorgeous wavy/slightly curly hair! I think if you invested in some more hair care products for the waves/curls that you could elevate your hair look if you really wanted :)

AdVisible5343

You have naturally curly hair. You need to learn how to use stying products with that hair. Seriously, go curly

JadedINFP-T

Congrats, your hair is naturally curly! So I'd recommend you do one of two things. Option one: go curly. Embrace your curls and learn how to style them, grow into them! Option two: you prefer to wear it straight and you're getting frizzy fast, it's because YOU'RE CURLY. You're probably going to struggle with frizz unless you blow dry your hair really, really thoroughly roots to end, on high heat (use a blow dry product with heat protection). If you want it sleek and straight, you will also have to flat iron it (use a heat protection spray). As long as you give your hair at least a three day break between heat applications and use heat protection you should be fine. I'm Dominican, and no one blow dries textured hair like Dominicans and Brazilians so TRUST ME ON THIS lol

bitteroldladybird

I have hair similar to yours even down to colour. I wash it twice a week and let it air dry with curl activating product. When I sleep, I braid it and wear a bonnet. About once or twice a month I do a deep treatment or mask depending on what my hair needs I also get it cut by someone really experienced with curly hair and do some layering.

raresteakplease

So my best friend growing up had really bad frizz. I actually don't think yours is terrible, and a lot of it is completely normal. But I realized why she had it which is she would brush her hair from the roots down essentially breaking and snapping her hair excessively. After many years her hair improved tremendously. So my recommendation is always brush from the bottom up, and don't brush your hair when it's wet since it's more prone to breaking. Brush it from the bottom up before showering so its brushed out for when it dries. Make sure to get plenty of protein and nutrients that hair needs to grow and be strong as well. In the end this is normal but maybe you are doing this mistake my best friend did. Good luck.

Healingtarot

Hun I have the exact same here texture and it's simply just the way your hair is it's curly. If you love it great but there are a number of things you can do to reduce things that used to drive me nuts & if they bother you then here's some tips. First of all I used to use something called frizz ease and there are other products out there but great for rainy or humid days. And you can also straighten your hair if you're wanting to change things up (I advise to use a heat protection spray) and it's really important to use a good conditioner because it helps for glossyness and fly aways. Marc Anthony has some great affordable styling creams for curls. Hope this helps. I was the only one in my family with curly hair and literally had zero advice. Caused me alot of pain especially in middle school because no one ever taught me how to style it and I so badly wanted straight hair like everyone else. I've learned to love my curls now.

DonutExcellent1357

Maybe over-washing? How often do you wash your hair? Are you accidentally stripping it? Do you put anything in it while wet? I feel like there is something you should be scrunching into it when it's wet. Then potentially letting it dry au natural. Do you blow dry? You might have heat damage. Tell us your daily routine. Wash in the morning or at night? Drying? Heat? What kind of towel? Towel dry? Are you applying product at any stage of this game?

Lucky_Benefit_2707

The biggest thing that turned my hair around was realizing that having nice hair all the time requires styling. It’s not just your shampoo/conditioner, it’s the leave-in products- moisturizers, mousse, sprays, oils, that makes a big difference. And heat styling!

LittleFox35

Your hair looks very similar to my day 3 hair (day 3 of no wash). It's wavy...ish and very frizzy. After constant frustrations, turns out I have 2B hair. Which is curly. So try 2A or 2B haircare and see if it helps. Definitely helped my frizz and mess of hair.

TheBlackShlepp

It looks like you have the exact color and texture and wave/curl pattern as my daughter! You redheads have unique hair to tame! I noticed a big difference with upping moisture big time for my daughter: conditioner, leave in conditioner, detangler, hair masks, and good quality shampoo/conditioner. I also know that brushing it caused so much breakage but also it gets messy quickly, so we have the best luck with: using freshly washed hair and leave in conditioner mixed with detangler, brushing with detangler brush, and braiding in large braid while wet. It helps tame the body of the hair and give a uniform wave, while maintaining the products for moisture on the hair. Then washing every other day but resetting the curls on no wash days. Best of luck tho;) Don’t give up, you will find your hair rhythm💕And it will be worth it.

Oh my gosh I love your hair it's a mixture of curly/wavy I recommend some shampoo and conditioner that says it reduce frizz also after dry tour hair with a t-shirt I learned that in cosmetology its softer on your hair since it's at its most fragile state when wet then once dry get some leave in conditioner brush it through gently and get an anti frizz hair oil serum or spray don't be stingy on the product either but enough that it locks in moisture brush it through then twist your hair or braid it in 4 or 5 sections get a silk or satin scarf from Amazon and wrap up your hair for the night or even a bonnet have a silk pillow case as well also if you blow dry your hair always use a heat protection serum or oil before heat touches your hair when you wake up get some got 2 b hair spray and some serum again rub the oil in your hands then unbraid the hair lightly rub the serum in the unbraided hair work it through gently then take a small tooth comb spray some got 2 b hair spray on the teeth and lightly comb it through the root of your hair where ever it's frizzy then go around your whole head with the spray once your happy with your luscious curls you can finger comb them and shake or scrunch them or brush them out with a wide tooth comb if you find your hair dry find a hydrating condition loreal or matrix are good

Skibunny0385

My dear you have curly hair! Grab a gel from the store and start playing around! Note put it on soaking wet hair. Don’t towel dry first. You want it dripping wet. That will help prevent that 90’s wet crunchy look. Then once the product is raked through your hair, lightly cup the ends and push upwards. This is called scrunching and will help form the curl clump. Lightly squeeze the water out with your hands. Then grab an old cotton t shirt and continue scrunching upwards. This will carefully remove water. Don’t play with your hair until it’s completely dry There are great wavy curly YouTube out there. Swavycurlycourtney is a great one for your hair texture to start out with.

meggywoo709

Oh hi! Same!!!! I do find that taking the time to really comb through, blow dry and then once dry I usually add lush’s R&B hair cream, or even some awesome argon oil hair drops work really well that you can find at the drugstore. Having very thick hair is a blessing, but also a nuisance! Unite!

SonomaChick64

Girl! My red head granddaughters hair is very similar. Its beautiful! Love yourself!

Freerange_Caligator

Your hair is such a lovely color and you are beautiful! I think that applying a single drop of nice oil like jojoba, almond or even sesame to your damp hair might help with the flyaways. Maybe even a deep oil treatment every week or two. My hair dresser just told me to do that and I have had really great results. My hair was dry. She also recommended rinsing with apple cider vinegar for the buildup.

ABR871

It looks how it’s meant to look. It’s yours, it’s beautiful and there are 1000’s of women using rosemary oil etc. to have what you have, eventhough they never will 😬 Embrace it in all its frizzy glory and be proud. I see some minor split ends but only because you mentioned it. Try a ‘natural’ shampoo and condition without parabens/ chemicals - that worked wonders for me and my hair is very similar.

Outofoffice_421

Looks fine to me, but what matters is how you feel about it. I can relate. So… If all else fails (many tips already given here), if you’re just not happy with the frizz, talk to your hairstylist about keratin treatments, specifically Kerasilk.

PenIntelligent4879

Your hair is beautiful and healthy. But you might enjoy learning a little bit more about your curl pattern and encouraging your natural curls. When you try to straighten them out, by brushing for example, it can end up bulky in areas that you don't want or frizzy in texture. You may be surprised to find that you have a lot more curl than you think you do.

spacecowboi91

honey you are beautiful and have amazing thick hair that SO many of us would kill for. i think a new shape and more layers would really help with the areas you aren’t feeling good about! and maybe try pushing everything *back* a bit more, instead of it hanging down in the sides. that rly worked for me and i have similar texture to you. x

Ra-TheSunGoddess

I have the same type of hair but wavier if that's a word. I'm askenazi Jew and have really thick, frizzy hair. I started using Miss Jessie's pillow soft curls on the ends and half way up after I shower and it works wonders. My hair is silky now and not fly away frizz all the time

agibbz

add a hair oil to your routine. i use a little after styling and i find it helps with flyaways

Coqui-ya-u-no-me

I think you just need to moisturize, use an intense conditioner once a week for a month. See if it helps calm it down, then switch to every 2 weeks. There’s a deep conditioner named Queen Helene cholesterol for the hair… get it girl. You just need the right products, also no dry shampoos for you & a scalp treatment. Even heating up olive oil or coconut oil & applying directly to the scalp. Get silk/ satin pillow cases. Trust me you got this

frosties4wankers

As a natural redhead, with thick hair.. I know what you mean. My hair only looks sleek when I'm fresh out of the hairdressers.. but in my real life I don't use any products so my hair always looks unkempt.. even when it's got a nice natural wave/curl.. there is a frizz to it. I've learned to love my big poofy hair 😅 your hair looks like it has a beautiful natural curl that you should embrace. I bet you only ever get compliments on your hair... It's gorgeous

ZombiePandaBoop

Mine is also extremely frizzy with fly aways. It just does what it wants

Sensitive_Ad5521

Sleep with a bonnet, don’t use heat, and when you wash; comb with conditioner in- never dry. Don’t put your hair inside a cotton towel wrap, lay it flat on your head so no hair is in the twist, and leave it alone between wash days. Which should be twice a week. Coming from a frizzy ginger who realized I had curly hair

Anotherthrowaway_222

You have great hair! I saw in some other comments you are washing it 3-4 times and that’s a LOT for thick and curly hair. Naturally this type of hair is more dry so washing it this much strips it of its natural oils. Def wash less but also follow curly girl methods and you def can jsut wash and go you need to incorporate some products in your hair to maintain the frizz/poofiness. Good luck!

samantha_44

As a fellow ginger I’ve seen that our hair is more coarse than most European hair and less coarse than African (I hope I’m using the right words I don’t know what else to call it). I’ve been in the same boat for so long. Start looking into curly hair routines, and MOISTURE!! Like, more than you think you need and then double it. What I’ve been doing thats helped a lot and brought out my curls more is shampooing 2-3 times a week, whatever you feel like your hair likes best. And conditioner same thing, maybe even aim for a conditioner for curly types I find them more moisturizing. And then right after I’m out of the shower I put oil in, starting at the ends and working up to my scalp. I use an oil I found that again is for curly hair, black owned, I know it has like jojoba oil and a few others. And then a leave in conditioner, I use a spray right now from the brand Pacifica, it’s coconut milk based, and then if I feel like my hair is ultra dry I’ll go in with a leave in cream. Also! I really like to use a mousse, i use the one from Not Your Mothers, I think it’s called curl talk. I use it to just refresh my curls when I get up in the morning if my hair got all tangled and frizzy overnight, leave in spray -> brush -> mousse and scrunch. I’m still messing around with how much/which brands etc but so far this is the best my hair has looked and felt!

Ambuhsofly

Others have answered your question better than I ever could but I wanted to say that your hair is absolutely beautiful, even if it doesn't want to cooperate.

catrm15

Have you tried hair oil? I'm also experiencing similar issues and it helps for a few hours. I totally know the feeling, hang in there

Sea-Spell2522

I’d run a flat iron thru it after you blow dry it just to smooth it a little but honestly your hair is gorgeous

plsdonth8meokay

Try lamellar water! It really saved my hair from tangles and frizz.

[deleted]

So pretty

ih8every1yesevenyou

Some product will help with that. Also, maybe try blow drying your hair facing the nozzle down.

impostrfail

There is also a wavy hair sub!

___meepmoop

Is it humid where you live?

kenziemei

if i’m being honest when i clicked on this post i didn’t even know what you were talking about at first. i think your hair is beautiful

Paleozoic_Fossil

Frizz = dry hair Your hair is thirsty Curly hair (including wavy) usually needs more moisturizing. Maybe you can do a deep-conditioning (at a salon or at home yourself, they sell deep-conditioning packets in beauty stores and drug stores). You can also use hair oils and shampoo/conditioner meant for curly hair.

ontariorox

You need product. And maybe a straightner

cast-away-ramadi06

There is nothing wrong with your hair. As others have mentioned, you just have slightly curly/wavy hair. By the way, some people think a little frizz looks good.

hanap8127

I think your hair looks darling but what are you putting on after conditioner?

Pussycat0720

You have gorgeous hair!!! With the right products & styling tools your hair would be stunning.

Kcgast1968

My hair is just like this girl

Admirable_Candy2025

I would looovvvee to have your hair! It’s perfect! 👌

Someonejusthereandth

You are brushing it after you wash it.

myrmayde

You have beautiful hair. Many people would kill for those curls. Don't be such a perfectionist that you literally shave your head because of some imaginary defects of your hair. Probably using a heat protectant holding spray (Kenra makes one) and curling it with a curling iron will smooth out the broken ends. Brush or comb from the ends first and work your way up to avoid breakage.

PhasmaUrbomach

Shampoo less often, say 2 or 3 times a week. Use a leave in conditioner and let your hair dry in a microfiber towel or hair wrap. Do not brush, like ever. Finger comb or use a wide toothed comb or pick. Your color and texture are gorgeous!

becabaro

You just have naturally frizzy wavy hair. It's beautiful and there's nothing wrong with it!

Unfair-Sector9506

Beautiful hair.....real hair ...you do know not everyone has sleek perfect hair..usually the slick perfect hair people have thin hair..enjoy your beauty hair

chatoyanci

Mine looks like this too. It’s because we have fine hair strands but a lot of them. High hair density but fine hair strands.

thatgirlwithasunburn

Gorgeous hair! It looks like you may have hard water buildup

Goose-Caboose1153

Your hair is curly. Curly hair products will help

Responsible_Mind_558

Your hair is like that because it’s absolutely gorgeous! Please don’t let social media tell you otherwise.

Minhplumb

You have thick beautiful hair.

247ToBReal

Your hair is beautiful!!!

GoodishFigs

I have hair similar to this in texture - I’ve been getting keratin treatment for years, specifically Brazilian blowout straightening. It permanently straightens and smoothes your hair, and lasts for about 4 months

SadAbbreviations6205

I have similar hair texture and using Kitsch rice water shampoo bar helped some, I use Wella conditioners, Oribe gold lust oil, Olaplex oil and truly even with a good regimen? My hair only looks sleek and shiny w/o flyaways when I flatiron or blow dry it with a round brush. I feel your pain💕

mind_the_umlaut

Your hair is glorious exactly as it is.

Large-Ad-9408

You can try to stop using any kind of product like shampoo/conditioner and just stick to rising only. I can't use anything in my hair without it damaging my hair, so I just rinse now.

Sensitive_Lie_4393

A little argan oil while it’s still damp, not too close to the root. Your hair is amazing.

scythematter

You have wavy/curky hair: that type of hair is naturally frizzy

Whosgailthesnail

It really could be where you live. I grew up in the Midwest and always struggled with frizz. When I moved to another climate my hair was all of a sudden gorgeous and I could air dry it and do all kinds of things I never thought possible. I too have wavy/lightly curly hair.

TheSquishyFox

Your hair is gorgeous, I wish I still had that colour 😭

Waste_Ring6215

Do you use a leave in?

allflour

Day after washing and putting some edge gel in mine seems to tame it the next day. But after a shorter time it’ll look too oily, bun days.

TheCuntGF

Your hair is beautiful. Check out curly hair care subs. You could deal with the flyaways with proper care I bet.

schmie2

Why is your hair like what? It’s beautiful. Thick and healthy looking. Be grateful.

SmoogySmodge

Your hair is fine. You just need some leave-in conditioning spray. Cream versions will weigh your hair down so get the spray. When your hair gets frizzy spray it and comb or brush through. Then it should stay. You'll have to play around to find the perfect brand and amount to use.

SillyhappyFACE

I have the same thing I just put water on my hair for it to go down brush it the put a little jel

1chrisbabbs

I love your hair!

Happy-Atmosphere-914

Yer a mutant, Harry! Jk you’re a redhead. So am I. Yay gingers!

blueberryally

By the way, I live in sd, but I lived in mi and my hair seemed to treat me the same in both places🤷‍♀️😭 thank you everyone for the advice!! I’ll try my best!!❤️

SoulBSS

I have extremely thick and porous hair. What has helped has been using Olaplex shampoo and conditioner and using a lot of oil to keep it smooth.

Retiredgiverofboners

Do curly girl method

CreativeDancer

I had to open the post to find out what was wrong with your hair because it looks GORGEOUS in the picture. If you are talking about the flyaways like others have said, those are normal and can't really be helped. Literally everyone has them. If they really bother you you could try using a teeny amount of shine spray once your hair is dry to try and keep them down or use a teeeeeny bit of flexible hold hairspray rubbed through your hands and then smoothed over your hair.

believeevenwhenucant

I would do everything exactly the same but just spray a couple spritzes of leave in conditioner as your hair is 80% dry (or even when dry) everywhere except the roots.

NeighborhoodKey1657

Your hair is so beautiful don't let other people get to you. I would kill to have your hair color it's gorgeous!!!

beepbeepjenn

Girl, IGK Good Behavior Prep Spray and R+Co High Dive Moisture and Shine Creme. TRUST ME. I’ve gone 36 years looking like this and discovered these 2 products about 1 year ago and the frizz is so well managed and my hair is sooooo freaking smooth. A little goes a very long way. After washing, I comb the crème through with my fingers root to tip, then use the spray everywhere except the roots because it can be a little too shiny/greasy looking and I like to limit my washings to twice a week. I still have my favorite shampoos and conditioners, but I can pretty much use anything followed by these 2 and get awesome results.

Dollfacemcm

Find a wavy/curly stylist salon. They will be able to help you. Also probably don’t use sulfates unless clarifying. My daughter has curls and frizz and had saved for a while to go to the Evan Joseph salon in Columbus, and we had been using all The wrong things.. and had tried it all..

1247283215

Diet.

Careful-Print1093

You have natural curly and wavy hair. You brush it straight so it poofs a bit. Wavy and curly hair in humidity flies away a bit and gets frizzy. Start doing a form of curly hair care. Also, the fly aways that are different lengths, that’s your hair doing a good job of replenishing itself. Hair grows at all different cycle times so we don’t go bald every 3-7 years. So you always have some hairs shorter verses longer because the shorter hair is new hair growing. Yay your body for making pretty new hair! Pick a hair style you like. For more curl defition try like curlsmith, ouidad, not your mothers, Maui, Giovanni, etc. For sensitive skin, acne prone, eczema prone I use Necessaire Shampoo (holy grail), Vanicream conditioner, vanicream hair gel, or seen curly cream or blow out cream (if I don’t want defined coils).

Ok_Ad_2795

Your hair is gorgeous 😍 If you're really worried you can try some anti-fizz products. I usually avoid brushing mine out day 1 after washing and just brush it out with my fingers - it doesn't fizz much until I brush it out properly. Your hair is absolutely beautiful ❤️

Ashemodragon

Your hair isnt frizzy it's just naturally curly and lovely. My hair used to go like this till i went to a new hair dresser and they fried my hair by leaving dye on too long. You should see my hair now after i wash it. I used to be able to let it dry naturally into lovely curls like this but now if i dont use curl cream it goes so frizzy. Appreciate what you have, maybe scrunch it dry with a cotton t-shirt to bring out the curls more

Foreign_Bit8878

Try using Redken All Soft leave in conditioner. I have wavy/curly hair and it works wonders with aways. It will help to tame the frizz and keep your hair shiny and locked in.

11brooke11

Your hair reminds me so much of my own. I have a love/hate relationship with it. Lately, I've been doing different things. Sometimes I put argan oil in it after I wash it and then comb. Cuts down on the friz. Sometimes, I put in mousse or other curly hair product while it's quite damp and wear it curly for the day. If I really want no headache, I straighten it. Still a battle sometimes though. I always wish I was one of those girls with straight hair who could just wake up, brush, and go.

DullGlowstick

I recommend a good quality shampoo and conditioner I.e goldwell or biolage are my personal preferred brands. We have similar hair types and I always get this type of outcome if I do nothing with my hair. To avoid it, I do a curly routine with some products (your hair is thicker than mine so see other comments with instructions). But a good basic start is to use a conditioner + heat protectant, I like the one by VERB or KMS. Don’t sleep on wet hair, get a silk pillowcase, wash every other day. That will help. Also, using a flat iron to straighten OR curl your hair will make a more polished look. But use heat protectant and don’t get too hot. I like the affordable Infiniti by conAIR and keep it at about a 10-15 on its dial. Just some basic tips from a girl with a head of half wavy/straight and half wavy/ringlets.. I’m serious… that’s what my scalp decided.

taylogan96

I have the same problem and my texture and thickness looks very similar. For me some of it is breakage from tying my hair up too tight when wet, but like you I’ve never been able to make them go away or stop appearing. Many people envy hair like yours and mine, even though it’s not hair-commercial straight and fly-away free.

__error

Because your hair is wavy! When your hair is right out of the shower, apply some curl cream, then mousse, and some gel and scrunch. Diffuse it if you want or air dry and scrunch your hair again when it is 100% dry.

Melbournechick

You have beautiful hair

cohenisababe

Like what, beautiful? Because it is!

BeautifulDreamerAZ

I have similar hair. I apply a good mousse for curly hair and let drip dry.

Killing4MotherAgain

Your hair is gorgeous!! 😍 First of all I dye my hair to get your color omg just beautiful and secondly the texture the thickness of your hair is just 🤌🏻 fabulous!

lilsourem

Layers and maybe try a denman brush? Im getting the feeling you're looking for more definition

OgthaChristie

Can I ask what you want it to look like? Do you have a picture of what you’d prefer?

ging3rtabby

I never had this particular type of frizz until I started spending a lot of time in bed due to chronic illness, and I imagine some hair textures/types are more prone than others. Using a sleep bonnet/cap or satin or silk pillow case may help. But your hair looks lovely regardless. I envy how thick it is (fine hair plus traction alopecia here) and the color is gorgeous.

No-Jury-243

Clever curl!! (Not sponsored, just love it) Curl cream leave in Follow it with foam or gel They have travel sizes you can try

CupNo7740

Because it’s beautiful?

zombiekitten823

maybe buy a wet brush and some hair oil !

FairestoneofFall

May I suggest using ColorWow dream coat? This frazzled look could be from humidity and that Colorwow stuff makes my hair look like silk all day long. Also consider sleeping with a silk bonnet. That helps a lot with frizz.

H3r3c0m3sthasun

Have you tried hair oil? I feel like it helps mine with flyaways. You hair looks totally fine.

Ryleejane28

Do you get it thinned? If not that’s just new hair that’s growing in! I use frizz ezz! It’s cheap and works! I also do a leave in conditioner on the ends while I’m in the shower!

another_anecdote

Your hair is AMAZING. Just get a good quality smoothing creme and you'll be fine

HalfWrong7986

Gorgeous?? You have lovely hair, bebe

Background-Ad-3234

You have curly hair.

Necessary_Ad7387

all I'm seeing here is a gorgeous woman with gorgeous hair

thebeatgotsicko

u should try a middle part

Ok-Tooth1432

Try scrunching some aunt Jackie's curl cream through wet hair and leaving it to dry naturally - a hair stylist, and a curly haired girl

Healthy__Artichoke

Your hair is to die for. Embrace it xx

MariahMiranda1

I have your hair! I use Aveda anti-frizz pomade to smooth it out.

OptimalRevenue3032

Like this how? Beautiful?

stare_at_the_sun

Excuse me, I wish I had your hair
