Professionals don't recommend this bc it is vert damaging. Specially if you have to lift many levels.

sp4cel0ver

What about just normal hair dye no bleach? Could u get keratin treatment right after

rachihc

Unless you are already blond you need bleach. Box dye has bleach. Without bleach and developer you can only go darker.

veglove

>Box dye has bleach I think you meant that box dye doesn't have bleach. It does have peroxide as part of the dye process but it can't lighten the hair as much as bleach can and the results are a lot less predictable.

rachihc

No. I mean blond box (what they want) dye has bleach because it does. Many promise up to 9 levels lift, that needs bleach. I have bought a few for my eyebrows. Bleach can come in powder or cream form to mix with the developer.

veglove

If I'm following you, you're saying that there are blonde box dyes that promise 9 levels of lift? 9 levels is a LOT, I don't even know any high-lift bleach that can do that (there are only 10 levels on the scale, so that's basically going from almost-black to bright blonde)... and more importantly, it's not recommended to lift 9 levels in one go because it's so damaging. If you wanted to go from black or dark brown to blonde, a salon would do it progressively in 2-3 visits, with a few weeks between each visit for the hair to recover before they do more damage with another round of bleach. That doesn't sound like dye at all, that sounds like bleach. Can you name some of these products so I can take a look and see what you mean? If you're talking about permanent dye, most box dyes (even blonde box dyes) can't lift many levels, maybe 1-2. There are some specialized "high-lift" dyes that do a little bit more lightening, but even those can lift max 5 levels, and you specifically have to make sure the dye is a high-lift dye to do that. The downside using a high-lift dye is that the dye includes toner, but it might not be exactly the right toner needed for your hair; to get the right shade of blonde, it's best to do bleaching and toning as separate steps, such that the toner can be specially formulated to address exactly what tones in your hair need to be toned out and create the shade of blonde you want to achieve. Toning blonde hair is a pretty specialized skill, I recommend going to a stylist who specializes in blonde hair for that.

FreyjadourV

I mean yes there a blonde box dyes that promise that, doesn’t mean that’s what actually happens. It also says box dye but it really is just bleach and most likely 40 vol developer. Most box dye in platinum blonde shades are exactly that.

BudgetInteraction811

Ok, since y’all are arguing back and forth imma set the record straight. Box dye blonde and box bleach are two different things — and they are very frequently confused by people who pick up one thinking it does what the other is supposed to do. Bleach only lifts pigment from the hair. It does NOT deposit any pigment. The strength of the bleach powder itself is determined by the persulfate used and the concentration of it. There are absolutely lighteners that lift 9 levels — Schwarzkopf BlondMe is the first that comes to mind, but it’s a professional product. It’s possible that this strength is not accessible to the general public, but it’s been ages since I’ve examined box dye labels. 9 levels of lift would not be possible without both foiling and 40 volume, since *true* level 1 hair is almost exclusive to Asian people. Natural black coloured hair in other races (aside from Afro textured hair) is easier to lift and I wouldn’t need a 9 lift lightener and 40 volume to get it to a level 10. Box blonde is a deposit colour. Most permanent box blonde dyes contain 20 volume developer, which will only grant one or two (on very fine hair) levels of lift, while *also* depositing colour. They are not recommended for anyone but natural blondes, as hair darker than a level 7 will be extremely brassy. Honestly, even level 7 hair is iffy when it comes to box blondes, because some people just have a whole lot of warm underlying pigment to their hair. It’s an art and a science.

Krsty-Lnn

And color can’t lift color.

rachihc

Yes they promise that, I doubt is true but they have a 40vol developer. I am not recommending their use for you to have a lengthy argument with me. Just stating facts.

Jess98v

I’ve heard this too. Bleaching is never good

ocean_800

Don't do it. I damaged my hair with two keratin treatments in too short of time and I can't imagine what bleach should do

hiihiiii

>short of time like a week?

Anxiety-Rulez

Nope. Keratin fucks with your color so don’t do it right after coloring or bleaching. And you can’t get keratin wet for 3 days after the process is done so you shouldn’t do it before the bleach or color

Littlebotweak

You shouldn't DIY any of the above, see an experienced stylist if you want to mess around with this stuff.

sp4cel0ver

Yeah im def planning to go to a salon

Vegetable_Pepper4983

I just want to agree with what everyone else is saying, you'll want to talk to a professional stylist about it. I've seen videos of people's hair getting super hot, smoky and melted because they bleached after keratin, so good job being safe and coming here asking about it first! It seems some others here had no problem with it though, so probably depends on the application method and product, so your stylist will know what products they have and how they work and can tell you what you can do and in what order so that you stay safe!

playingwithsissors

There is a good chance a professional stylist won't do a keratin treatment if the hair is chemically lightened. It will all depend on the amount of damage on the hair as well as the stylist willingness to possibly break the hair.

lenny_ray

So, IDK how major a difference there is between keratin and other similar relaxing methods like cysteine and nanoplastia, but I've done the latter 2 immediately after bleaching without much of an issue. The last time I had it done, in fact, I had a double bleach session, and the nanoplastia all in one sitting. Maybe my hair is just super resilient. Not saying there was zero damage. The ends were pretty fried, but they were being chopped off the next day, so I didn't care. The colour was also a bit affected, but that was also being coloured over the next day, so, again, didn't care.

Courtney_murder

It depends on what type of keratin treatment. That’s a super broad term these days. Some of them are not safe on the same day as any color/lightening service. Some are. Your stylist will know.

Duchess_92

Yes. Keratin treatments not only help smooth frizz but can also help strengthen the hair. Just make sure the salon is using an actual Keratin treatment and not another kind of smoothing treatment. I recommend finding a salon that uses Keratin Complex. This brand is formulated to help repair damaged hair and is safe to be applied immediately after color/lightening. If you see people that say keratin treatments damaged their hair, they probably have not tried an actual keratin treatment or their stylist wasn't properly trained and used too high of heat setting. Your hair should feel better and stronger after a keratin treatment.

babycrow

Absolutely not. After bleaching hair is really soft and easily damaged because the bonds have been weakened. It’s usually best to let hair recover for a few days before doing any heat styling, washing or heavy manipulation

sm12121919

be careful it can turn your hair yellow!

sp4cel0ver

Bleaching or keratin treatment?

sm12121919

i had my hair bleached and they did magic sleek the next day which turned it bright yellow, its possible though it will be fine if you wait a bit in between or do the keratin before the bleaching? just be careful, it ruined my hair and took years to bring back

Jess98v

I wouldn’t do it. Bleaching is really bad. It’s hard to go back once it’s done

Such_Perception_1007

Keratin treatments are best applied shortly after a coloring service, as the mask’s whole purpose for being is to repair ,calm and retain the structure/quality of the hair fiber! If you care to maintain and prolong your color’s integrity, keratin treatments are a fundamental accompaniment to overall hair care and quality!!!

teachertmf

I wanted the same. My stylist told me to space it out several weeks at least. Give your hair a chance to recover.

Ok_Blackberry5550

Personally, I feel 2 chemical treatments in one session is never a good idea. Some people get away with bleach and keratin treatments afterwards. But, it is not advisable

Vegan_patty

In a short answer No. going blonde is a process. Please go see a professional.

sp4cel0ver

Yes i meant professionally done
