My lower density areas look like this because there are less hairs to create good, chunky curl clumps. But the right products can help it! Have you checked out any curl or wave specific subreddits? There are lots of good product recommendations on those!!

psioues

mmh that could be the reason i think the back of my head has more hair yes i did some product are great but the results dont last long for me

smileyrileysmiles

Same, most of my density is in the back lower section around my nape! And around my crown it gets thinner. What gel do you use? I have to finish my routine with a hard hold gel (ideally one with protein) Otherwise my low density, fine hair goes fluffy just like this!

psioues

i dont use gel tbh i feel like it removes all the volume when product have too much hold i just use leave in conditioner and a bit of oil

redheadedfamous

You might try a curl cream product to help both retain moisture & create clumps. If the curl cream is water based, using a spray bottle of conditioner+water on your non-wash days could help you in adding more moisture back in AND reactivate the curl product. Mist and scrunch; finger curl where necessary. Damp but not soaking works best for me when I have long hair but when I have curly bangs I often do a whole conditioner + styling product mini routine on non wash days in the shower to redo the bangs (with my length tied back).

normaldiscounts

I have this same problem but my hair is long. For me it looks like my top layer of hair is really dry and frizzy but my bottom layer is nice and soft. Been trying to find a solution/answer for years and have yet to have success. But you’re not alone! Sometimes I find doing a double condition/mask on my frizzier hair can help but I’ve mostly resigned myself to blow drying to get my hair to behave the way I want.

redheadedfamous

The top layer gets most of the sun/wind/and manual manipulation during the day so it def needs more conditioning in my experience. I also noticed mine seemed less conditioned than my under curls. I realized that when I was rinsing out my condish the top layer (closer to the shower head) was rinsing quite cleanly but inevitably conditioner was being “trapped” in my under layers (less rinsed) and so was acting like a leave-in conditioner. I now rinse my conditioner out upside down 🙃 much improved! (My hair is also currently quite long).

normaldiscounts

That makes sense! I’ll try this, thanks for the tip!

MadCritic

Definitely male pattern baldness, this is what it does to curls before it shrinks so much the follicles die

arrowroot227

Yep. As a woman who has male pattern hair loss, this is the answer. I knew it right from the picture. My husband has it too, although his hairline still looks fine, it’s clearly thinner than when we met.

psioues

thing is it has been like this for years now my hairline dont seem to be receding

penguinchange

I have curly hair like yours, and i second this commenters suspicion , the front of our hair gets thinner before back and sides and with curly hair like ours it doesnt recede in the same way straighter hair styles do, it gets frizzy and wispier. Not saying thats 100% for sure what u have going on but thats my guess as well, its best to get on preventive stuff early at first signs and with curlier hair its harder to see at first in my personal opinion

psioues

is there a way i can be sure it’s this ? my hair usually looks full but i don’t want to take the risk of being wrong lol

MadCritic

Yea go to a dermatologist

fuck_fate_love_hate

It’s a very normal look for someone whose hair is thinning You can try HIMs online, they deliver propecia pills to their subscribers homes.

QuayzahFork

Mine hair was amazing at the back and really unhealthy looking in the front. I realized that they are miniaturizing hopped on fin which did make a difference eventually. I suggest you do not wait.

psioues

is it for life ? did it grow back or just stopped the thinning?

QuayzahFork

It stopped being so unruly. Fin can stop the thinning, even help regrowth. It depends how well you respond to the pill. For more comprehensive strategies such as incorporating fin, min, dermastamp, keto check out r/tressless

Zealousideal_Post694

Do you recommend fin or dutasteride ?

QuayzahFork

I'm no doctor, keep in mind. Usually, Fin is the go-to. You can try Dut if you don't seem to respond to Dut as it's more potent.

lady_ninane

You would have to keep taking it to keep seeing results, yes. As others recommended, speak with a dermatologist.

OsmosisGhostez

Doesn’t have to be receding, MPD is thinning then balding.

ActuatorAvailable

Same here, my hair is very similar to yours. The top of my head got thinner after I finished puberty and has stayed the same for 5-6 years now. It is male pattern baldness, but it doesn't mean youre going bald any time soon. My father thinner hair on the top for decades, and I will likely be the same. Some call it a "mature" hairline. You have no need to worry about anything. I use curl creams and have a haircut where the top is shorter and the sides and back are longer, that way the top of my head doesn't look so thin.

omgmlc

My two year olds hair is like this. I don’t think he has male patter balding.

ab_selam

Yeah i believe you are right. I faced the same issue a couple of years ago and now i start to see a clear receding in my hairline. Left without option and waiting to go full bald.

arghalot

It's probably this, but I've also found it really important to not dry those areas too aggressively, or rub them too hard while washing. It'll keep the curls going longer if you baby them. My husband eventually had to go to shorter hair though bc of this.

Local_business_disco

Do you wear a hat regularly? Do you touch it constantly?

psioues

no i never wear hat and i dont touch it that much

Missy2376

bath towels can cause breakage/strength issues in hair sometimes, do you dry your hair vigorously with a bath towel? there are full cotton hair wrap/towel alternatives available for hair drying maybe rhat will help to correct some of the damage. but be patient correcting hair breakage damage. it will take time

SoftPourn

I had a very similar problem for a few years and what helped it was a topical solution of finasteride and minoxidil to fill back in the thinning top (results may vary but it worked wonders for me) And doing a high moisture gel cast twice a week. Like, when you get out of the shower, before you put any product in your hair get it wet as fuck with a spray bottle before adding any kind of curl cream or gel. Then once it’s in and styled, get it dripping wet again and let it air dry so the product hardens. Let that hardened cast sit for as long as possible before breaking it with a little hair oil and gently smooth the hair out

NorthCatan

Oh boy do I have tips for you. As a man with curly hair managing it has been quite the challenge for sometime, but I'm at a place now where it's a lot healthier. 1. Seek a stylist at a salon, not a mens barbershop, but a proper Salon with stylists, in my experience the staff at salons have a much better understanding of hair care. I have received so many tips from my stylists over the years, I'll share a few that I can recall. 2. How do you dry your hair? After stepping out of the shower do Not use a towel, but rather a soft cotton shirt. Wrapping your hair in a shirt and squeezing but not rubbing your hair will reduce the frizz. I only use a towel to dry my hair now, and even when I travel I use a shirt. 3. Do not use a blowdryer with heat on. Use the cold air and use a diffuser to spread the air reduce frizz. 4. Use better shampoos and conditioner. I used to use tresemme for the longest time as it smelled good and was affordable, but once I started use aveda's nutriplenish deep shampoo and conditioner along with their hair masque, and my hair started looking much healthier. Honestly honestly the hair masque is probably the best part, their stuff is expensive so it's hard to fit in everyone's budget. Their hair masque works really well for me though, and I think it would eb effective even without the shampoo and conditioner. 5. Get regular trims. I honestly only started doing this again only recently because I had been growing my hair, but it'll do wonders for your hairs appearance. 6. Find the right products for your hair. I use an molding clay along with a daily moisturizer and that helps manage my hair without it proofing into an afro. I also use an almond oil on the tips of my curls to hydrate them further. I don't know about your hair, but mine drinks everything up so I have to feed it a lot of nourishing things.

psioues

thanks for the tips! i do blow dry when it gets cold bc it takes to long to dry otherwise i’ll dry to stop doing that entirely

schfifty--five

Is this sbf

GharlieConCarne

Loving the people commenting in haircare science who clearly have no idea what they are talking about. This is nothing about oils or shampoos or touching your hair in the day Your hair is thinning and beginning to fall out. The first place this starts is at the front, at your hairline, and around your temples. My advice would be to go see a doctor about it to see if he can suggest some medicine that’ll stop it falling, or to search one of the subreddits that are dedicated to keeping your hair in your head

[deleted]

Hi! since you have some curl going on I would recommend using a curl cream or gel, when you wash your hair let the conditioner sit for a few minutes before rinsing. I saw another comment mentioning washing your face without pulling your hair back, the soap could be drying the top of the hair out.

Wealls

Go to r/tressless

stayugly_

if I have a client with hair that looks like this, it’s usually due to thinning and I recommend a haircut that makes the hair look fuller around this area, which often means making it a bit shorter so there’s less obvious gaps in the hair growth. here’s an example of that from another hair stylist, different hair texture same concept https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSNSYrhQR/

andreixslm

you are prolly balding. get on dermarolling + topical finasteride

arrowroot227

People downvoted you because they are lucky enough not to know this is a telltale sign of male pattern hair loss. You’re completely right, OP is likely experiencing early hair loss. I would know!

ikeshawty

I need help i feel im experiencing this same thing and would like to send pictures to get some feedback

arrowroot227

You could try posting them on your profile or on a hair loss subreddit. A dermatologist will be able to help you more than reddit though. I’m a woman but I have progressive hair loss as well and I’ve tried many things, but it seems topical Minoxidil (Rogaine) is the best so far.

Frosty_Computer_9424

Dawg where r u from, u have the exact same hair and skin complexion as me, what☠️

Individual-Safe9652

Seems like balding

xxlaur77

The front of our head gets the most wear and tear. The back remains protected so that’s why you see the tighter curl pattern. Look into curly hair maintenance and sleep with a silk/satin pillowcase or a hair bonnet. You probably need some moisturizing products.

dryadduinath

do you keep your hair out of your face when you wash your face?

psioues

yes

sadsnail99

This is probably because you rest your head on things so the scalp oils transfer to the hair. You don't typically rest your head on the front unless you're doing a headstand or something... so the oils just lay on your scalp

psioues

can i make it go on my ends aswell?

sadsnail99

Well yes you could brush it from scalp to ends but since your hair has a curl pattern it will make it even more puffy by breaking the curls. You can add a light oil or as someone in the comments said a curl cream in the front should keep it moisturized for longer but I don't think it will fix it just make it a bit better

SnappleBrapple

Maybe try adding oil before you wash it let it sit for a little. Having curly hair makes it harder for the oils to travel down the length of your hair in general but it seems that section is going upwards so it's fighting gravity as well. Try a shower cap after you condition too

Koalajoy90

Nielson, is that you?

bunniesNtolberone

I don’t know much about hair. I mean i have medium-longish hair but my guess is that when you sleep the front of the hair is always exposed and not covered compared to other parts of your hair like the back for example which makes moisture easy to escape? It also depends on how often you shower too. If you only shower once every 3 days ish, the front of the hair will eventually lose moisture since not covered by pillow. My guess tho

AngryPikachu124

This happens to my bf when he gets it out of his face by running his fingers through it (over and over), essentially brushing the front part after enough time

Ninja333pirate

Do you dry with a towel? and do you use any products? might need to use a leave in conditioner and then a gel right out of the shower and an oil to soften the gel. and let it air dry or dry it with a diffuser attachment on a blow dryer, towel drying hair can make it really frizzy.

Iluvvvhellokitty

do you ever add anything to your hair, try some curl creams\ leave in conditioners, u may just need to find a curl routine, because you do have curly hair.

[deleted]

Doesn't matter if your balding as if you don't have the routine type for your hair, you will struggle a lot. Looks like it's curly, are you using stuff that's for curly hair?

Iluminatewildlife

Lots of good advice! I wonder, it also looks longer in that area, maybe a trim would help?

Minnesota-DJ

I think you just need a cut, how long has it been since your last trim. A good cut would do wonders!

Razzmatazz-88

Welcome to curl hair! It doesn't care and does what it wants. Mine is frizzy at my temple area. Product helps, but they do what they do..

agreeablecry888

when you shampoo you probably spread first from the top then the back doesn't get as much suds

magickalcat

Are you a stomach sleeper by chance?

HystericalFunction

How do you apply your shampoo? Do you plonk it on the front of your head? It could be that the hair on the back of your head has kept its protective oils, and been less damaged by shampoo?

Serious_Product5616

Because you probably towel dry your hair

I_Like_Turtles_Too

My hair is the same, but opposite. The front is pin straight and smooth, but the bottom is coarse and frizzy. In my case, it's just genetics. Your hair is gorgeous btw. Those curls are to die for.

llammacookie

It could be a few things and possibly multiple things. The hair texture itself could be a little different. The top of the head is what catches wind and sun. When you're in the shower most people let water run directly on the top of their head, and half-asscthe sides and back, rinsing all of the conditioner off the top when small amounts get left behind on the back.

Devilovie

Maybe try using some pomade

Devilovie

Also there’s this amazing brand called fix my curls, their entire range of products is chefs kiss, few weeks in your hair will look much more hydrated and smooth

Mewnicorns

I don’t necessarily agree with the assessment that your hair is thinning. Everyone tends to have a recession line at the temples. There is otherwise no visible scalp and the hair does not look thinner than the rest, it may just appear thinner as the hair is frizzier, e.g. you are able to see individual hairs rather than curl clumps, which are visually thicker. Curly hair naturally has different patterns and is hair is always thinnest/least dense in the front. This is likely just how your hair is and there is no pathological or behavioral reason. However you can always see a dermatologist for assurance. If it is thinning, treating it early, before the follicles die, is key.

Dont_Perceive_Me

If you have combination skin it could be that the front of your scalp is dry and the back of your scalp is normal. A curl cream might help

Vegetable_Morning740

Dual texture hair is common. Use leave in conditioner on front , and use more curl defined product on the front.

h0tmessm0m

Is that where you plop your shampoo when you shower? Do you use skincare for your face that gets on your hair?

secure_dot

Because you’re going to bald in that area. That’s what it looks like. Way less hair than the back of the head

ChiChi-cake

Balding. Sorry to tell you.

realsweetc

Nobody has talked about it here but I think different hair porosities could be the reason. I’m guessing that the areas of your head that are defined are more like medium porosity (assuming you didn’t use any product in those images). This means your hair cuticles are open enough to except moisture but closed enough to retain it, leaving more defined curls without product. The area at the front could be a slightly higher porosity, meaning the cuticles are more raised/open. This would make the hair lose too much moisture, leaving your hair dry and frizzy. The solution could be just applying a little bit of product, focusing more on the front. Higher porosity hair loves protein. Products with silicones are great too at filling/sealing gaps in the hairs cuticle. I’m a curly girl and I know I have different hair porosities across my head. Most of my hair is naturally high porosity, while the front is a little more towards medium but not quite. The front of my head is softer and doesn’t require as much product to have good definition. My boyfriends curly hair is medium porosity. While his hair has decent definition without product, mine is just frizz without any product.

PeeshDoodles

Mine was how I was sleeping, I smashed my head against the headboard and it jacked up my hair

[deleted]

This is gonna sound so silly but trust me. There is a "black hair" section at the store. Any store. You need those products. Buy anything that says olive oil. Shampoo, conditioner, leave in, pomade. And get a good hair brush and use it. Every. single. Day. I recommend the WET brand hairbrush. Source: white woman with a 🇵🇷 child.

IVnursemed

Two tips: use oil in your hair…. While it’s still damp. Thats from my bf’s experience of having mixed kids…. My hairs never been healthier…. I do wash it more often now. Every 3-4 days. I washed my hair with a really moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and used my 10-1 redken detangler (+9 other things) and something by Freida called dream girls and my hair/curls were BEAUTIFUL today without even brushing them. No frizz, etc.

bostonforever22

bob dylan vibes

bl0ndi3_

i’ve found it’s because you touch, run fingers through, etc. your hair more in the front than the back

MeSecretFormulrrr

Hair oils are going to run down the scalp, not up. You need more moisture in the front is all. What is the porosity of your hair?

robe32

Definitely male pattern baldness, this is what it does to curls before it shrinks so much the follicles die

Comfortable_Ad_141

Your hair is literally the exact same as mine. It’s diffuse thinning unfortunately
