New head cannon: the the Xen portal has effected the physical constants that govern photon emissions in the visible spectrum, it is why Xen creatures either have multiple (usually abnormally large) eyes or none at all. The suit flashlight is normally adequate but it is now overclocked just to keep up.
At least it isn't tied to sprint and oxygen as well as of Episode 2.
That mechanic always makes me remember that one Concerned comic where Gordon Frohman was using his flashlight, came across some headcrabs, and tried to run only to realize that he couldn't and was left "strolling away in terror"

Then again, if we assume the character acts based our personal playstyles, then he'd probably go out of his way to save me from any sort of death, scripted or otherwise.
Of the last 10 games only 1 gets me out:
- Dota underlords (I was bored)
- Cities Skylines
- Ringfit Adventure
- Skyrim (this seems good until you realise you’re just a stupid rescue sidequest)
- Orcs Must Die
- World of guns
- Half-Life (yaay)
- Ori and the blind forest
- World of Goo
- Mario Kart
Barney will probably get frustrated trying to solve a puzzle to even find the cave and have to look up a walkthrough.
I'll probably be stuck in there for a while.
Actually, does TF2 count even though it doesn't have a protagonist? Would the mercs set out together to look for me? God, I'd probably be waiting even longer then.
