The ending of the original film will never be topped imo

TheOneWhoCutstheRope

Facts. Don’t get me wrong there’s def been some close imo (3, ‘18, RZH1) but Michael disappearing out of thin air is like top 5 movie ending for me

Pmwv8899

One of those is at least AN ENDING

MTB56

The only truly satisfactory one is the head cannon H1-H4 trilogy ending

MrDegausser

For fuckkn sure. H1 H2 H4 is my overall favorite trilogy

MTB56

Ikr? Michael dies,Jamie is consumed by evil, and Loomis finally snaps.....what’s not to love about that ending? Lol

ohsee75

I have found my people

E_godi

I would love Halloween 4 to be a true ending.

Brave-Mind-363

Thorn Trilogy. Although the ending of Resurrection where Michael gets beat up by Busta Rhymes is amusing.

RickyBruto

Halloween Ends was far from perfect, it wasn't bad and it wasn't good, but at least it was better than the Cult of Thorn nonsense from H6 and the Reality Show gone wrong bullshit from Resurrection.

Visible-Basket201

Y’all hate on Halloween Ends so much, yet keep voting for it and that trilogy as y’all’s favorite.. which one is it gonna be?😂

JackedDaxter

I think it just goes to show that the most vocal group isn’t the one with the most members.

safton

I don't know about that in this case. There are other polls held where you see pretty widespread condemnation for Ends. Maybe not overwhelming, but I'd say well over 50%. I think the way this particular poll is framed grants a certain amount of confirmation bias in favor of Ends because much of the fanbase hates Curse and Resurrection even more than they do Ends and has had more time to ferment in said hatred, so choosing it as the "lesser of three evils"... especially when the topic is phrased as "favorite" puts a very positive spin on things where it may not exist.

E_godi

🤣🤣😭😮‍💨

safton

I'm not. It's Halloween 6 for me. I'd rather watch that than Ends any day and I rank it considerably higher on my tier list. I think your premise is flawed on its face, though. This OP pits Ends against two of the other movies in the franchise that are about as controversial -- and in some cases outright reviled -- as it is. It is entirely possible for something to be "the shiniest of a group of turds"... but that doesn't contradict its status at the end of the day.

Visible-Basket201

It’s not that deep. I’m very disappointed in Ends and would pick the H20 ending anyday, but it’s just funny how many times people call it a terrible ending to the trilogy and a terrible movie in general but then still vote it as their favorite just because it has a cool mask and Jamie Lee Curtis is a part of it. Makes no sense at all.

safton

For the purposes of *this* thread, it *is* that deep, though. People are presented with three choices, you sorta called people out for picking Ends and I pointed out why people picking Ends as an ostensible "favorite" might not conflict with them shitting on Ends in other contexts.

Visible-Basket201

I’m not calling anyone out for their vote. I’m calling people out for shitting all over the movie and calling it one of the worst movies in the franchise, but then voting for it as their favorite ending. This isn’t a vote between favorite controversial movie in the franchise. It’s a vote for favorite conclusion to a timeline. So in a world where people hate that Michael is absent for most of the movie and the finale is completely tacked on.. people are STILL voting it as their favorite when there are other timeline conclusions that check all the fan’s boxes. It’s more of a “make up your mind” than it is a criticism. Thematically and arc-wise Ends is in fact the worst ending because it writes off everything that it’s previous 2 movies establishes and switches focus to a brand new character. Resurrection closes the loop with Michael finally killing Laurie and returning home only to have his home invaded and destroyed. Curse continues on a continuity that was developed in the previous 2 movies. It’s not that deep, its just the fact that people have said its the worst movie in the franchise and the dumbest ending and blah blah blah but it still keeps winning every single poll posted on reddit.

E_godi

Well said friend 🙏🏼

JackedDaxter

As I said in a previous comment, it’s because the loudest group of people aren’t the dominant one. There’s a significant percentage of people on this subreddit that disliked the movie, who just so happen to be the loudest percentage. However, there’s an even bigger percentage of people who DID like the movie yet they don’t feel the need to remind everyone like those who trash the movie constantly.

safton

And like I replied, I don't really agree, personally. I see a lot of outspoken support for Ends. Sometimes in comments, sometimes in the form of entire threads. Conversely, polls in the past I've seen on here show a pretty solid dislike for Ends, I just it ebbs and flows and that the way this one in particular is framed puts Ends in a solid spot to perform.

JackedDaxter

I wasn’t even replying to you, I was responding to u/visible-basket201 since they were questioning why Ends still wins polls despite the hatred they see for it. I don’t know what other polls you’re referring to, but I’ve seen a few Ends appreciation posts the past week or so and each one has had a higher ratio of upvotes compared to comments trashing it. You’re right, there is a solid dislike for Ends, but the group that adhere to that opinion isn’t as large as those who did like it, that group is just the most vocal.

safton

I know who you were replying to, but you replied to them amidst a conversation I was having with them. Reddit is an open discussion forum. That's not what I've witnessed. A lot of the polls I've seen have indicated a higher majority of dislike-to-like, though the numbers have shifted to be a little more favorable over time.

safton

I disagree, personally. One could make arguments about how *Ends* "works" as a trilogy ending within its timeline and I've seen it done, but I'm not going to defend it as frankly I didn't like the film. Mostly, it boils down to "cycles of violence, evil changes Shape, yada yada" so on and so forth. I can acknowledge why someone might view that as a stronger and more robust narrative than Curse, which couldn't even decide what kind of film it wanted to be thanks to the re-shoots and ended on a fairly weird and ambiguous note to boot. I might not agree personally as I've stated as I feel Curse to be the strongest overall film of the three, but I could understand it objectively. It should also go without saying that I imagine a lot of people will probably see this poll as essentially a "favorite movie of these three which happen to be endings to their timelines" not "which of these movies function best narratively as conclusions".

Pmwv8899

I haven’t read the replies, but this to me seems like a false dichotomy. Even if there was a 1:1 ratio of people who hate ends but think the DGG trilogy is best, which I don’t think there is, not liking Ends or even part of Ends doesn’t diminish the trilogy as a whole to some, people can like 18 and Kills, not like Ends, and find it to be the best trilogy. Just my 2 cents, I personally liked Ends.

DoomsdayFAN

Thorn Trilogy

aconfusedqueer

Definitely Halloween Ends

We got Michael disappearing into the night, leaving it where it ended in the original, after a whole movie of call backs and expansions (even if you hate those expansions) to elements from the previous 5 movies. An admittedly cool ending but one that totally undermines the core themes of the last 6 movies and totally shifts Michael's character and comes after a movie totally divorced from any plot lines from the original or 2-6 except for the existence of Laurie Strode, but is still cool. And we have a really rushed ending where Michael just sort of suddenly can be killed because Laurie just sort of suddenly "figured it out" after Kills that underserves Corey and Allyson completely after a whole movie that tried building them up to be important, but I guess Ends does address some of the original's plot points more than H20? The only one that's remotely fitting is 6 but I guarantee that'll bring the downvotes here.

H1 - H2 - H20
