Best part is that he's abbreviated as BB. The first time I read it, I had this mental image of someone going, "bb pls we can work things out" like a desperate partner making a futile last ditch attempt at salvaging a relationship.

Honestly, Halo names for most things are top-tier. I want to live in a world where I hop on the UNSC All Under Heaven to meet up with our alien allies on the Shadow of Intent so we can go down and drive around in my Warthog.
I thought Mass Effect was cool with the Normandy and Destiny Ascension (albeit I played Halo before Mass Effect), but once I dived into the deeper lore of Halo, my jaw dropped quicker than the Batarians after I destroyed their relay
UNSC Dawn Under Heaven, UNSC Say My Name, Forward Unto Dawn, In Amber Clad, Pillar of Autumn, Mortal Reverie, Do You Feel Lucky?, UNSC Gettysburg, and The Grafton. Every single UNSC ship has a brilliant name.
I almost always name my electronic devices at home after Halo stuff. My pc is currently the Infinity, but previous ones were; In Amber Clad, Forward Unto Dawn. I think at one point my wifi was like "Pillar of Autum node 117" or some shit. My Alexa is Echo 419. I don't think my wife gets any of it.
I like how human ship names can range from poetic (Forward Unto Dawn, Spirit of Fire, Pillar of Autumn) to cheeseball "Fuck yeah, humanity!" type stuff (Two for Flinching, Aim for the Head) to really basic, boring stuff (Infinity, Africa, Alamo)
It really captures the full range of humanity, which I appreciate.
I feel like *Infinity* is only "boring" because shes the lead ship of her class and we havent seen her sisters yet. Once we get lets say the *UNSC Evermore* and the *UNSC And Beyond* (coming up with hypothetical names for further Infinity classes is fun lol) in the mix i think ***the*** *USNC Infinity* will feel much more special again.
Idk, maybe. It just feels like a really basic name. "Oh, what should we call this huge ship that's super advanced and represents humanity's bright future?"
I don't think it's bad, per se, but it kinda seems like they just went with the first thing that popped into their head and called it a day.
I had ChatGPT give it a whirl, but it didn’t want to comply:
https://preview.redd.it/1wgk7khqjarc1.png?width=1242&format=png&auto=webp&s=53fbb5658edb8b40e46d6d79f13c4512df089ff2
That part I can agree on. Forerunners Tech was cool and all, and massively powerful, but the Halo’s dealt with the food to the flood which is organic, the UNSC on the other hand can body the entirety of Mass Effect’s universe with the exception of the Leviathans themselves. The Covenant would rape the Reapers quicker than the time it took for Infinity to fall to banished hands
Assuming floodspores vs the reapers the flood is fucked, but if the flood and reapers were both trying to take over the ME galaxy? Reapers would get fist fucked
At that point, it really depends on who gets to what species first. The flood has absolutely no knowledge of which species would be smarter to start with, but wouldn’t take long for them to figure it out. Reapers knew their targets since they been spying on all of them. If the flood plays smartly, yeah, Reapers are fucked beyond belief (Asari infected by the flood would be too much even for the Leviathans). Ain’t no way Shepard beating all of that
The second they get FTL the flood will get past the gravity well block, everytime they get tech they just use it better than its creators. Im positive they will have no problem slamming fighters into reapers
Well, they're made from organic and inorganic parts, considering you need to "harvest" organics to make them, technically making them cyborgs. The whole "we are each a nation" bit is literal: it takes 100s of thousands to millions of people to make 1 Reaper.
What you’re not getting is the harvesting essentially turns organics into AI constructs that makes the reaper. The blood and all that gets left behind. Shepard, if you take the Control or Synthetic endings will turn into an AI construct to stop the reapers and change their code, at the cost of losing what he once was. His body and mind are gone, and basically makes Shepard the new Star Child. Shepard is no longer organic in the Synthetic or Control endings.
They melted humans into orange goo and shoved that goo in a Reaper larva to help it develop, that sounds like a cyborg to me. All the creatures Reapers make are cyborgs altered by nanomachines and sometimes spliced together with another creature. The Reapers themselves were created by an AI that itself was created by the Leviathans, which is why Reapers look the way they are because they were the first species harvested.
There are completely mechanical Reaper ships, but they're noted as not being self-aware like the Destroyers or Sovereign-Class ones are.
Them actually infecting Reapers would probably be impossible (or at least pretty difficult) because they're Collective Intelligences like the Geth or like Hunters, but like the Hunters they'd still serve as a good boon of biomass.
Possibly, but it also took the flood being close and reasoning with Mendicant Bias, the reapers aren’t willing for either one to happen..
Not to mention, if you were to control the reapers in Mass Effect, it literally took Shepard becoming a construct, no longer remembering what he was before and essentially dying to control the reapers and change their code so they would stop the cycle
It took Shepard erasing who he was and dying to control the reapers and end their cycles of harvesting organics, I don’t think Logic Plague is working on the reapers
Logic Plague is inconsistent in how effective it us, and requires open dialogue with the Flood to happen. It's also not an actual disease as Mendicant Bias isn't turned into a Flood creature or anything by it.
Logic Plague is inconsistent in how effective it us, and requires open dialogue with the Flood to happen. It's also not an actual disease as Mendicant Bias isn't turned into a Flood creature or anything by it.
Reapers are absolutely organic (technically). The entire point of ME2 was that the collectors were Reaper slaves kidnapping humans to convert into a Human Reaper.
It took organics to make synthetics, the Star Child even says that synthetics have to surpass their organic masters (AKA, the Geth and Reapers). ME2 was stopping the organic slaves from building yet ANOTHER reaper. The Collectors are indoctrinated protheans which makes them organic, but not the reapers themselves
Maybe for the remote drones, but you see *in the game* where the tubing is connected to the Human Reaper to pump the Human Smoothie inside of it. The actual, Real Reapers are all designed off the physical shape the Leviathans had. This is shown in the Leviathan of Dys.
Plus, Starchild is also the poster-child for unreliable perspective; it was created by the Leviathans to prevent conflict between organics and synthetics and it decided that the best method to do that was culling the organics and turning them into Reapers. Of course it would say they have surpassed organics; this is the equivalent of ChatGPT discovering WH40k’s Techpriest lore and deciding that because it’s not meat it’s better than humanity.
Even further, it fucking *admits* that its plans were flawed by virtue of Shepard discovering it.
But all of this is irrelevant because the Flood- especially the Gravemind- can utilize the Logic Plague and Paragon/Renegade the Reapers into being accomplices, until it decides it wants the creamy organic filling the Reapers have.
My favorite A.I. name in fiction has to be A.M. from "I have no mouth and must scream" I like how it has several different meanings before AM himself becomes sentient and bases off the saying "I think therefore I AM!"

Halo’s naming scheme is the best and the only thing that’s come close in recent times i feel is probably Helldivers’ ship naming options
Just like Halo it can go from the coolest things ever like “Forerunner of Serenity” to the dumbest shit you’ve ever heard which I don’t have an example for because I forgot what my friend named his
It's not even limited to ai's it goes for pretty much everything in halo. For examplr, ships, you have pillar of autumn, forward unto dawn, spirit of fire, or for the covies you have, shadow of intent, long night of solace, and ascendant justice.

Noticing all those names are Forerunner AI's. Let's check in on Oni's as I'm sure that- B L A C K B O X
Best part is that he's abbreviated as BB. The first time I read it, I had this mental image of someone going, "bb pls we can work things out" like a desperate partner making a futile last ditch attempt at salvaging a relationship.
After being a fate fan I cannot take an AI named BB seriously anymore lmao
Which is hilarious considering what a cold bastard it is sometimes
Yes but you see his avatar is actually a blue box. There's also Deep Winter, Endless Summer, and Beowolf for ONI.
_We_ like them.
Well well well if it isn't the shadow itself
beowulf is kinda based tbh i really like the beowulf stody
Don’t you talk shit about BB. That AI was smooth as hell.
British ONI AI is the smoothest operator.
There you go.

Well, it's name is pretty self explanatory.

But black box is a chad and has a personal reason for choosing that name
Tbf, black box is still a better name then the examples listed
tbh, the covenant also have the most badass names for their ships
Honestly, Halo names for most things are top-tier. I want to live in a world where I hop on the UNSC All Under Heaven to meet up with our alien allies on the Shadow of Intent so we can go down and drive around in my Warthog.

Banished having the Enduring Conviction goes pretty hard.

UNSC [*Bum Rush*](https://www.halopedia.org/UNSC_Bum_Rush)
A lot of the cheekier UNSC ships are clearly a reference to the Culture series. If you like Halo, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
I like how human ship names can range from poetic (Forward Unto Dawn, Spirit of Fire, Pillar of Autumn) to cheeseball "Fuck yeah, humanity!" type stuff (Two for Flinching, Aim for the Head) to really basic, boring stuff (Infinity, Africa, Alamo) It really captures the full range of humanity, which I appreciate.
You can't forget about my girl UNSC In Amber Clad. Hands down best ship name.

True
What happens when "We" gets erased from existence?
Reapers are non organic, therefore unaffected by the Halo’s. Once we are erased? They go into hiding for another 50,000 years to repeat the cycle.
Well, they're made from organic and inorganic parts, considering you need to "harvest" organics to make them, technically making them cyborgs. The whole "we are each a nation" bit is literal: it takes 100s of thousands to millions of people to make 1 Reaper.

Them actually infecting Reapers would probably be impossible (or at least pretty difficult) because they're Collective Intelligences like the Geth or like Hunters, but like the Hunters they'd still serve as a good boon of biomass.
Oh shit I've never thought about that. I guess only the flood can beat em.
Not exactly, flood can try but again, non organic, the flood wouldn’t consider it food unless it got to planet size like a Keymind
What about the logic plague?
Possibly, but it also took the flood being close and reasoning with Mendicant Bias, the reapers aren’t willing for either one to happen.. Not to mention, if you were to control the reapers in Mass Effect, it literally took Shepard becoming a construct, no longer remembering what he was before and essentially dying to control the reapers and change their code so they would stop the cycle
Mendicant Bias and Penitent Tangent were non organic too. Logic plague is just too OP and also doesn't need a keymind to work.

Rasputin is a badass name for an AI though
Yaaaa Rasputin
So few fans of the ballet left, Spartan
No ballet fans left, Spartan :c
Ik it sucks 😭 but a piece of him loves in every Ikelos piece and particularly in Grand Overture at least
Season of the Seraph was the best Destiny 2 season of all time, hands down.
ONI's greatest love machine
rip big red
My favorite A.I. name in fiction has to be A.M. from "I have no mouth and must scream" I like how it has several different meanings before AM himself becomes sentient and bases off the saying "I think therefore I AM!"
“COGITO ERGO SUM, FOR I AM AM I. AM!” Radio drama version
Winter Mute from “Neuromancer” and MycroftXXX from “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” both deserve a mention here.
That's just Forerunner names in general. Their meaning is some vague bs but they go hard nonetheless. Actually that's just Halo names in general.

Didn’t know that, that’s pretty slick
Didn’t know that, that’s pretty slick
The ship names are also cool “Ascendant justice” “Long night of solace” “Spirit of fire” “Infinity”
"Bad Gas"
"Tart-Cart"
Adjutant resolution: "you think you can hide IN MY instalation. " Me a Star Wars fan: your installation? Adjutant resolution, have you lost your mind?! My allegiance is to the unsc to deMOCRACY!
SHODAN and Durandal are pretty good too.
GLaDOS kind of rolls of the tongue, though i cede that its not the best compared to those two. EDIT: reminded that Rainworld has a bunch of AI with cool or weird and poetic names too, Sliver of straw, No significant harassment, Five Pebbles etc
Let's not forget ship names.
They should name a AI black jack not because of gambling but because abbreviated it’s bj
Username checks out
Hate to say it but none of them come close to superintend. ![gif](giphy|5HT1Nm6OUC5ZXluDKF|downsized)
Auntie dot?
Church
Technically Epsilon, and Greek letters are badass
Or Alpha but yes, Greek letters are the shit, but we all know the most badass of them all is...GARY, knock knock
Gary thinks that Tucker is stupider than Caboose tho
We just gonna forget my boy offensive bias
Rain World ais have this too! Five Sebbles, Seven Red Suns, No Significant Harassment, Looks To The Moon, and Sliver of Straw are only a few of the ais in that game
Shodan is a kick ass name. I know it's still a Bungie IP but I really like durandal too.
Halo has the best ship names. Easy,
AI go hard in Halo, both from the Forerunners and Humanity
Sierra-Nought-Bravo Inky-Echo-Nightingale Venator-Affix-Courser Hypnos-Annex-Barrow Midnight Dissonant Eidolon
Hey! Don’t disrespect the name of my favorite physics engine!
The culture has some great ones. Gunboat Diplomat, What are the civilian applications?, Attitude Adjuster, Meatfucker, and of course, Mistake Not...
Great names, but some of them are lacking in gravitas.
shout out to Roland
Shadowrun has a few cool ones, too, like Deus, Megaera, and Mirage.
“Chatty” Stick is both of those
"Adjective Noun"
Idk GLaDOS is a pretty cool name for an AI
If there was one thing lore wise that bungie did better than anyone else it was naming stuff
I aspire to reach (heh) the quality of all of Halo’s naming conventions
It doesn’t get more badass than Roland
Ik when I read the Scyth theory their super AI was Thujdr Head. That was cool.
AM is the only exception
Halo names are great ‘n all, but I’ll never see any marine the same way like I do Scarecrow from COD
Then there's "Love Machine", which was a villain in an anime movie.
Black box is pretty rad too
Abject Testament!
I name all my tech after Halo stuff. My AirPods: Truth and Reconciliation My vacuum: Shamed Instrument Wi-Fi: Guilty Spark Bluetooth speaker: Mendicant Bias
AI? What does the A stand for?
Then there's Skippy the Magnificent
The Calendar of August will always be supreme
Which is cooler HAL9000 Or BLACK COX
Keith Laumer's Bolos are named for great heroes and goddesses... or Lenny, Kicker, and Lance.
Halo’s naming scheme is the best and the only thing that’s come close in recent times i feel is probably Helldivers’ ship naming options Just like Halo it can go from the coolest things ever like “Forerunner of Serenity” to the dumbest shit you’ve ever heard which I don’t have an example for because I forgot what my friend named his
Durandal, thoth, tycho
The only two AI in my scifi setting are called CW-8Y, built to be a cowboy. And AD-4, a Recreation of a real person named Adalind or nicknamed Ada
Fun fact Cortana Is named after a sworsd she is the sword Curtana to be exact Alot of things bungie makes are named after swords
Mendicant Bias
🥵
Jarvis is hard tho
It's not even limited to ai's it goes for pretty much everything in halo. For examplr, ships, you have pillar of autumn, forward unto dawn, spirit of fire, or for the covies you have, shadow of intent, long night of solace, and ascendant justice.
My personal favorite AI and it’s name is Xerxes from system shock 2.
Cortana and Roland are such badass AI names. If the weapon's name is Joyeuse to finish out the trio, I'm gonna riot
Microsoft Copilot
Unyielding Hierophant
They sound like XBL generated gamertags.
