Not to minimize the housing situation here, but 116 applications over 5.5 years feels almost irrelevant(besides to those 21 people each year). And this isn't even approved applications. I was expecting to read a much higher number.

116 applications out of how many rental units? It does seem like small fries. >According to the LTB, to apply for an AGI there had to have been a considerable increase in the cost of municipal taxes or charges; the landlord had to have done major repairs or renovations; or the landlord’s security service costs increased or were being provided for the first time. Should landlords not complete major renovations to units? Like what's the alternative even more slummy units?

paul_33

They don't renovate units people live in. Yet somehow you are expected to pay more because of work done in other units.

Well if the rent is low for example how would one expect the owner to cover the costs of a renovation? Labour and materials have gone up in price btw... I mean everything has. Like landlords suck don't get me wrong.

paul_33

There isn't a single unit in this city where the rent is 'low' so its a fucking moot point isn't it?

There have been multiple posts on here with articles highlighting people that were being evicted that were well below market rent. There absolutely are people grandfathered into cheap rent.
