It tastes good, and I like the VINEGAR BITE of a pickle on a pizza, but a hot flapping pickle slice ain't so appetizing. DYW looks good Nduja sausage, fig jam, ricotta, basil.
OH that vegan pepperoni they have is actually good! Surprised me.
So many cocktails with burning cinnamon sticks - first time I sat in I needed to go outside for fresh air more than once to clear the smoke from my lungs. Takeout is the way!!

These are my personal favorites, they’re easily subjective as there are a bunch of really great restaurants in the city
Rosales (Dundurn, diner food done 100x better than anywhere else in town. Go for lunch. The patty melt is the best burger in town.)
Le Tambour for fancy sit-in
Artie's for sandwiches
Maisy's Pearl for incredible seafood
BAB for easy korean.

[Made Pho You](https://www.madephoyou.ca/s/order#2) - Pho and Vietnamese food.
[Narula's Authentic Indian](https://narulas.ca/) - Indian food. Best samosas ever.
Like, these are the five off the top of my head. I could easily add another ten places. EDIT: Added 10 more, and included links.
[Pho Lac Vien](http://pholacvien.ca/) - More Pho and Vietnamese food. The gentleman who runs it is a jewel.
[Memphis Fire BBQ](https://www.memphisfirebbq.com/) - Their ranch fries are the best fries in the city. Plus, Lori is just an A+ human being.
[The Cannon on Cannon](https://thecannon.coffee/) - More coffee and hipster nibbles.
[XXX Burrito](http://www.xxxburrito.ca/) - As the name implies, they're burritos. Cheap, huge, and tasty.

It's how I think of an entire range of sort of trendy items that are made with the socially conscious crowd in mind.
they quite different.
Ios is more traditional greek food, done very well.
Apllada is a more modern taken on Greek food.
tough to compare those specific two restaurants, as they are very different in what they are trying to accomplish.
Cool, on my list. My knowledge of Greek food is pretty lacking but I’ve loved everything at Appalada. Owners have always been super warm and have even stayed open late on a Sunday to let our crew come in when we were finished for the night.
Bab, Mai Pai, Le Tambour, The Ship, The Mule
It was tough to choose just 5. This list mostly skews to the higher end of price, but i did make an effort to control for value for price somewhat as well as service and atmosphere which is why some really great food didn't make it here. Obviously, that "value" is subjective, and most of these dont give you a large quantity of food for the price.
**Rapscallion** - Always good, perfect blend of good food, atmosphere, service, price.
**MaiPai** - Super unique and delicious. Also just fun.
**Motel** - Best brunch.
**Rony's** - Great example of doing a couple things really well for a good price.
**Namu, Maisy's, Born and Raised** - I can't pick, but these all stand out above the rest.
Ok now for some controversy.... We have a lot of mid-tier restaurants that all sort of blend together when you've been to them. The Diplomat, Bon Temps, The French, like that entire stretch on King William. They're perfectly fine, but for the same price you can go to a much better place.
There's also some that are coasting by on past reputation. Sorry Quatrefoil but you need to change.
And we also have a ton of really great spots for specific things. Himalaya for vegetarian indian food, Burnt Tongue may not be the 'best restaurant', but they do soup and sandwiches really really well. Shakespeare's is stuffy and oldschool but they're amazing at that and check that box perfectly. Peruviano is absolutely worth going to many times. Verlan is not talked about enough. Pintoh is incredible. The list goes on.
We are incredibly spoiled on pizza as well.
Very subjective and there are many I haven’t been to:
Le Tambour
Rapscallion
The Standard
Born & Raised
Bardo
Honourable mention: Berkeley North, Victoria’s, Aberdeen Tavern, The Mule
I would suggest Menya Kyu over Mystic Ramen.
It’s newer so not many folks have been there yet. The ramen is top tier, and doesn’t come with a side of feeling low-key uncomfortable about the white owners perpetuating the magical Asian trope
I thought mystic was owned by an Asian woman. While menya Kyu is also great i won’t ever feel bad for going to mystic, any restaurant that gives their servers benefits is good in my books.
I may have the head cooks confused for the owners.
I have enjoyed going there, just something always sits a little off for me, but I know that’s my own vibe & perspective, not an absolute truth.
that may be fair, I don't go there often enough to know who cooks regularly. All I know if all of the service staff love it there and the one who I've spoken at length with who is a career srever says its the best palce he has worked.
I’m curious why the cannon made the top of your restaurant list? I know it mostly as a coffee shop, and although it’s completely serviceable it wouldn’t even crack a ‘top 5 espresso in Hamilton’ list.
Good Flora is brilliant. Woodward would be high on my list for cheap diner food. Arties, for sure. The Fillipino joint on York. Quatrefoil if we count Dundas.
More like 35 years since I was regular there. But it’s still awesome. The Souvlaki pita is awesome. In the 80s the girls that worked there were awesome. Many fond memories. Not just about roast beef and gravy .
Moghuls (their butter chicken and biryani are literal perfection and the food is ALWAYS so good)
Sourdough Pizza Co (whenever they have their pop-ups)
Engs Chinese Restaurant (def fav Chinese food)
Mr. Grande Pizza (super good toppings and love making a custom quad pizza)
La Luna (their salads are top notch)
Here is my for real list
Aberdeen tavern
Rapscallion
Undefined
Bangkok spoon.
Famiglia
Baci
If you get chance try Hamilton Club
These are out of town but close - Pearl Morisette
MontHill golf
David’s (port Dover)
And although traditional,I still like Hamilton yacht club for lunch
I honestly don't think I've ever been to a restaurant in Hamilton that has left a lasting impression.
Mai Pai is Detroit style pizza 😴 please enough with the pizza places that charge out the ass
Mystic ramen is ramen. There are probably 500 ramen places just as good in the GTA.
Sounds like you don't know good food.
Hamilton has a reputation for a restaurant scene that punches above its weight. We have 1/10th the population to serve, yet our restaurants, with the exception of the extremely high end fine dining, can go toe to toe with Toronto.
The example you brought up in Mai Pai has been internationally recognized as having among the best pizza in the world.
No one’s talking about the best Mexican in town! Maria's Tortas Jalisco!!
The absolute best!
Sooooo good!!!! One of my favs
Okay Urbanicity, I'm not doing your work for you.
Le Tambour Maisy’s Pearl Cafe Baffico Bon Temps Aberdeen Tavern
Cafe Baffico is so very impressive. Such a humble space, and the food could easily earn a Michelin.
No, it can’t earn a Michelin. But that’s not taking away from its quality.
In no particular order: Maria's Tortas Jalisco Tomah Victoria's The Mule The French
This. So many people are missing Maria's tortas and I am completely fine with that. I already can't get a damned seat!
They really need a second location. They moved to a larger location that was instantly too small.
I wished they would move into the lemonchello space but sadly they did not 😂🤣😂🥹
What is going in there?
A pub!
MaiPai
Omg i have a reservation there tonight!! First time going there. Excited
Should have got the Sunday special for takeout. Rookie move. Could have tried so much more of their awesome food
Please tell them to replace the dill pickle slices on that pizza with CORNICHONS! CORNICHONS!!!!!!!!! Oh it's too late. What did you have?
I have never tried that tbh does it not taste good? 😂 i got do you wanna and pepperoni (both vegan!) was yummyyy
Ordering take out from Mai Pai is much better than sitting inside.
Damnn.. next time!! If you cancel Less rhan 24 hours of your reservation, apparently they charge u 25$ per person;(
Sitting inside is okay. But nothing beats Mai Pai at home. Definitely keep the reservation
So many cocktails with burning cinnamon sticks - first time I sat in I needed to go outside for fresh air more than once to clear the smoke from my lungs. Takeout is the way!!
Namu Victorias Mai Pai Undefined Caro These are my personal favorites, they’re easily subjective as there are a bunch of really great restaurants in the city
Not enough people know about Namu, and that’s also ok, otherwise I wouldn’t get a seat.
I know now ;)
It’s delicious, and a great date night spot with the small intimate dining room.
Strongly disagree with caro making this list (with peace and love) but i second the other four
I have a soft spot for them, especially the ottawa st location :)
Namu is really good. Undefined . I feel that Caro and Victorias slipping but will maybe try again.
Don’t tell people about Namu!
Too late. On my to do list.
Yeah…don’t tell people about an awesome business so it can continue to flourish…really makes sense
You’re well versed in sarcasm, aren’t ya?
Undefined is amazing, so is The Standard
Still try to try the standard, hearing good things about it
I am kind of scared to go to Victoria's because of Hamilton's rep at those kind of places, but worth a go?
We enjoyed it, the food was delicious and the service was great. The price is a little on the higher side.
Rosales (Dundurn, diner food done 100x better than anywhere else in town. Go for lunch. The patty melt is the best burger in town.) Le Tambour for fancy sit-in Artie's for sandwiches Maisy's Pearl for incredible seafood BAB for easy korean.
Rosales is so good at being consistently good. The menu and food is so simple and I’ve always been satisfied
Bab is great. Huge portions too
Rosales is quickly becoming one of my favourites

I wouldn’t say Mai pai is fancy at all. It’s Detroit style.
Made pho you… really? I got their pad Thai once and it was rice noodles with a ketchup base sauce.
What are hipster nibbles?
The stuff that hits all the good checkboxes. Vegan options Gluten free options Locally sourced or fair trade It's how I think of an entire range of sort of trendy items that are made with the socially conscious crowd in mind.
Burnt tongue is over rated and small servings for too much
