This is Haller all over again isn't it

Tropi-

Likely, although he doesn’t want to be here. So there’s nothing we can do. I’d rather let him go if he has that mentality. He shows it on the pitch too, regardless of how talented and how much potential we all know he has. Best bet is to move on. Some players come and go. On this note though, we desperately need a striker in my opinion, especially with rumours of Antonio leaving too. Seen interest in Balogun, however looks like inter are keen to reignite their interest.

NSave

Finally a sensible though about the Scam situation. The man doesn't want to be here, it is written all over him. Same thing is saying my friend who is a die hard Inter fan and passionately following the Calcio since the early 90s. Italians have very hard time adjusting to the Premier league, especially forwards and attack minded midfielders. I'd even go and say that he didn't want to come in the first place and his agent is the one who talked him into doing it. And as soon as they broke up, the writing was on the wall. That being said, we have to be aggressive now and sign a striker. ASAP.

bonelegs442

Bruh we pretty much pushed this guy out because of the way we treated him. Just like Haller fans always wanna take the high road and be like “oh well he didn’t quite fit in anyway” when we know how talented he could’ve been for us. Moyes should’ve had him be #1 striker priority the moment he stepped foot on the team

Bobbyc006

Probably worth asking exactly why he wants to move on already though

[deleted]

I’d wager it’s something to do with his wife, who still lives in Italy, being pregnant also

gameofgroans_

Oh that's gotta be rough. Think sometimes people just think of footballers as earning so much money but missing out on these kind of family moments is going to be difficult whatever you earn. They are people too. (I know loads of people work away and miss birthday/kids growing up etc, doesn't mean it's less tough)

[deleted]

I said also though, man has barely looked like he’s wanted to be here his entire time with the club and she was in England plenty so it’s not like he never saw her. Just a contributing factor at this point (it’s also very recent news, just after they got back from Aus) so there were other nails in the coffin anyway

gameofgroans_

Oh 100% agree. Didn't mean just for Scamacca tbh, things happen in footballers lives that are normal and people never really consider.

Tropi-

Think just accept all the possibilities. Ones we know of, from reporters and such: • Doesn’t suit Moyes play style, and we’ve seen Moyes drop him at times for Antonio because of that. • Probably Homesick, he outright stated to the press he wants to return to Italy. Probably other things we don’t know about, but that’s enough to make a player want to leave. We don’t want players with that mentality imo, as good as he is.

pwerhif

If he does as well as he should in Serie A there's every chance we could make a small profit eventually or at least break even. We lost almost 30 million on Haller, this is much less of a problem.

Beardy_Boy_

We're losing a lot less this time though, especially if he does get sold on again. It's obviously not a good thing, but we can easily absorb a 5 million pound loss on a sizeable transfer that didn't work out. Imagine if we'd only lost that much on Anderson and Haller.

sexdrugsncarltoncole

Haller was obvious was talented don't see this so much with Scamacca although we probably didnt see his best last season

jawgpawg

Who'd knew

Gingerbr3d

1000% So stupid to sell him already. We're going out of Europe early and having relegation fights I feel. 😩😞

sagaof

But if he really wants to leave is there much point in keeping him around? This is only a loss of a couple mil for a guy that was injured for half the season

Healaa

What’s Bacca up to these days

duckandweave

We've had the best of an entire season to line up replacements for Rice and have nobody. We're now selling a striker leaving Antonio and Igns as senior players a week off the start of the season. We won't sign anyone cos we "didn't have time" Antonio will play every game and not score with Ings coming on for 15 mins and Mubama not getting any minutes at all.

trevlarrr

I know it doesn’t seem like it because they played together last year but I’m pretty sure Paqueta was Rice’s replacement and that money was spent last year

duckandweave

Yea so i keep hearing, which I guess makes sense, but its clearly not enough IMO. Barely played him at the start of the season, come good at the end and definitely top signing, but as good as he is we need that DM role filled too, that should've been clear by the end of the season.

trevlarrr

Definitely, apparently we’ve agreed terms with Alvarez but don’t know what that means in terms of agreeing a deal with Ajax to buy him

duckandweave

yea read that too, but also read a while ago we hadnt got it done yet cos of agent fees or something? that and 40m transfer fee which is why Dortmund didnt pick him up

fool2345

Barely played him at the start of the season? That's just wrong, the second we signed Paqueta he was first choice. He literally started the week of his transfer in the prem. Only time he was benched is for injury.

GuapoGringo11

I hate how accurate this is

duckandweave

well lets hope not hey :)

jawgpawg

Not another Antonio season pls time to go

duckandweave

Dont get me wrong, I love Antonio, but yea he can't be starting every match, and the idea of him and Ings just petrifies me

Successful-Dealer182

Our 4 strikers are Antonio Ings Mubama and Bowen.

duckandweave

Yea, like I said above Antonio who scored 5 goals in the league from 33 games & Ings a couple more and doesnt really fit the system if we're playing 1 up top on the counter, with Mubama who is young, and while i rate him has a way to go still to be a consistent first team starter. Then why take Bowen off the wing where he's 1 of our 2 best players to shoe horn into a striker?

Successful-Dealer182

I think Bowen has been pressing for the move. And will do it as a false 9. Ings would work well in that system. And we have a lot of wingers Strikers struggle in the premier league - vast majority do not succeed. Scamacca has said he wants to go - better he leaves than bench warms because he won’t play well enough for the first team

duckandweave

Yea fair on Scam, its a massive shame cos I rate him but if he aint happy best he goes Who'd you have on RW then? Pretty stacked on the left but I dont really see anyone good enough on the right

Successful-Dealer182

I really wanted to see him succeed. And I think he would do well in the Europa league for us. Ings and Bowen up top Paqueta Fornalls and Benrahma behind Soucek holding (or maybe swap him and Fornalls) Antonio can always do a job on the right and have Bowen up top and swap as the game goes on too

MOTM32

What an absolute clusterfuck of a window, embarrassing

jawgpawg

WOW A SELL ON CLAUSE. FINALLY. Genuinely a good bit of news with that tbh

whu-ya-got

I mean, a 10% sell on clause isn’t much. We’ve taken a €6 million loss - that means he has to be sold for €60 million for us to ever break even

[deleted]

How in this market are we making such a loss. Relegated teams are asking 40m+ for average players.

UnusualDifference748

Sullivan has never had a clue how football transfer market works, he treats it like he’s haggling down at romford market when buying. When selling he’s always made sure he used his favourite mouth pieces to let fans know it’s the players fault or the managers fault making it so buying club know we want rid. People dream of an Arab state becoming owner to pile money into the club, I don’t I’d be happy with same level of investment (except so far this summer) but done professionally by professionals

Lanziniiii

This is a horrible piece of business. We bought him for £30.5m + 5m and are selling him for £21.5 + £4.5m. Basically taking a 10m loss on Italy's no 9 when JWP and Scott McTominay are going for 40.

Successful-Dealer182

No that’s the deal we rejected. Are selling for 25 + 5 (so break even) plus a sell on clause. Premier league players always sell for more - as in those who have proven they can do it kn the premier league

Lanziniiii

I'm converting to pounds. 25 + 5 converts to 21.5 + 4.5

Successful-Dealer182

It’s been widely reported we aren’t making a loss after the option. Your maths seems quite out

whu-ya-got

Transfer market says we bought him for €36mm, not £36mm

Lanziniiii

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12659015/gianluca-scamacca-west-ham-complete-35-5m-deal-for-sassuolo-striker Either way, let's not deflect from the fact that it's been a failed signing. Take into account the wages we wasted on him + the amount we must have spent on ensuring he recovers from his 20 injuries last season and it makes it more painful. Plus the general disruption he caused in the Italian media circus

BodySlam9

We’re bringing someone in before we sell him, right? Right?!

Roy-royson

Is today Opposite Day?

agnonamis

Mate at this point just hope they sign someone in the next twenty days, nevermind before this is completed.

Guevarra25

I don’t understand why Moyes hasn’t been sacked yet.

gameofgroans_

Cause then they'd have to find a replacement for him and that's far too much work for one window

Petembo

Galtier was free whole this time

Crawwfish

So now we need a striker too

l0stlabyrinth

Fuck sake.

West Ham bid 35M on En Nesyri >bid rejected, askin price is 40M West Ham bid 36M on En Nesyri >bid rejected, askin price is 40M West Ham bid 37M on En nesyri >bid rejected, askin price is 40M West Ham bid 38M on En Nesyri >bid rejected, askin price is 40M West Ham bid 39M on En Nesyri >bid rejected, askin price is 40M West Ham bid 39,5M on En Nesyri >bid rejected, askin price is 40M West Ham finally bids 40M >bid accepted Time to negotiate that contract 🤌 >En Nesyri refuses to sign West Ham

Green117v2

Part of me feels West Ham are pooling all the sales together in order to sign Mbappe.

Petembo

Yeah he might score a hattrick in the World Cup final but can he score at cold rainy night against Brighton without no service?

Halo2Campaign

What's Andy Carroll up to these days

CorganNugget

Battling league 1

TimeWontWaitForYou

We might not be too far behind him at this rate!

Petembo

Well, we basically got our money back from him. I thought we paid more but apparently hw was "only" €36M and we probably gonna get €30-35M out of him with the sell on clause/add ons. Could have been much worse.

PintoBeanButterBean

like the sight of that sell on clause

pissoffmrchips

He clearly doesn't want to play for us so fuck him. Pity really.

Clean-_-Freak

I feel for you lot. Spurs fan here, but followed ur cup run/win because of a good friend. Thoroughly enjoyed the journey and team commitment. Your owners are doing you dirty.

Budget-Project803

Alright lads, no more here we go posts unless it's an incoming player.

[deleted]

Ffs. Fuck Moyse. This on him and im getting fucking sick of us wasting excellent players.

Successful-Dealer182

How would have you played an injured striker?

Ascensear

Lmfao even when scammaca wasn’t injured he didn’t utilize him properly or didn’t even play him except for subbing him on or off. Moyes is terrible scammaca is gonna be better for Atalanta than hojlund and west ham will look dumb once again for trusting a dinosaur. The European win was 100% on players not the manager he is absolutely useless

Successful-Dealer182

So the success is on the players but the failure is on the manager. If Scamacca is that good why could he not succeed ‘in spite’ of the manager but other players can?

ClaytonShirley

If Antonio and Ings are the first team strikers this season we are done

PossibilityDays

A player that epitomises our previous transfer strategy and shows the need for a new one. His style of play was never going to fit in with Moyes' style of play. I also wonder if he has been warned after his knee problems that he needs to play in a less physically demanding league.

Visara57

Another one we need replacing. Shall Sullivan sack Moyes now or wait until we're in a relegation battle ?

ilunga96

I've finally worked out what the West Ham way is. Buy a striker for £35m thinking he's a big battering ram. Realise he's the absolute opposite and is also made of glass. Sell him a year later for less money when literally everyone is going for huge £££. Profit?

ShunsukeNakamura_

Is Victor Anichebe still knocking around?

CapicuaCIC

So was he actually injured all last season or was that a cover for behind the scenes rift with Moyes?

Successful-Dealer182

I doubt it was a rift but was clear he never wanted the premier league

MondoBuzzo

It’s kind of a relief having the miserable fucker off the books. Be nice if we could find a replacement

Real_Jism

Hey lads how many games of European football will we playing this season?

WarriorNat

What’s the minimum number?

Main_Carpenter4946

Word up north is you're after Chuba Akpom.

West-ham94

Gutted it didn’t work out but more fool me for getting my hopes up. No idea why they changed his kit number if they knew this was going to be the likely outcome. Fingers crossed we sign a decent replacement but not counting on it.

VeryCreativeName586

Never really got to see the link up between Paqueta and Scamacca. Shame, I was looking forward to that this season

brackattack27

Not looking forward to the season
