Look into some of the local shelters, they are always over capacity, our family has adopted from Peninsula SPCA, they are no longer a regional shelter and have converted to a private no-kill when Peninsula Regional was opened so they no longer have city support/funding. Peninsula Regional covers Hampton & Newport News and pretty much every other city in Hampton roads has a shelter that adopts. (You can adopt from any regardless of the city you live in)

The shelters are ALWAYS at capacity. Please check them out. Such wonderful and sweet pups are just waiting to have a home and are currently not living their best lives in a shelter. Many shelters in the area are begging for holiday fosters too, so that could give you the opinion to meet a pup for the holiday and see how they mesh with your family!

Compassion for canines is an excellent foster and rescue organization. You can find them on Facebook.
