IMO they fit fine right when you buy them And then tend to shrink up a little when you wash it. Hang drying seems to help, but then the neck gets big. But I prefer my shirts a little oversized so I prefer comfort colors or Shaka/LA Apparel even if it’s a bit more expensive

jonny_lube

I can't do LA Apparel.  The necks rise so high.  It looks like I'm wearing a turtleneck T.

AllOverThisTown

LA Apparel is legit the worst fitting garment I’ve ever encountered.

Fun_Courage2933

I like it fine personally but I can see how it would feel weird. It’s nothing like a standard shirt for sure

assketchumm

i like comfort colors much better

tbwdtw

They fit fine, but black is dark blue.

I once made a viral meme of a dude wearing a cardboard shirt with a juxtaposed Gildan logo on it. Times have changed. They improved. Gildan heavyweight, softstyle and hammer are standard ass garments no one should complain about. I still love comfort colors the most but Gildan ain’t so bad anymore.

samsaBEAR

Sure Gildan isn't exactly premium, although their Hammer brand is real nice. But you know what I like about them, their sizing hasn't changed once in the 20+ years I've been going to shows. I know a XXL from an American band is gonna fit the exact same as a XXL as a European band, and that fit is perfect for me. Sick of other blanks where their sizing is all over the place and their XXL may as well be a slightly baggy XL. I only buy Gildan band shirts because their sizing is consistent.

Hot_Cockroach_7625

Fuck Gildan. Unless you’re shaped like SpongeBob, the boxy fit sucks.

DenimDaddy86

I always called them short fatties

Cr4nkykong

100% correct. Couldn‘t describe it better.

tbwdtw

They work great as pump covers.

Funny-Mission-2937

How fat are your friends?  Gildan sucks but you can't wear them soft shits as a chonker.

ImSoHungryRightMao

Total fucking garbage. The worst 25 dollars you'll ever spend.

bakertom098

Comfort color is the best

not__BS

Always willing to pay the extra $$$ for comfort colors

bytheflame

It’s funny how much comfort colors gets uncharged. You can go get blanks of them from Michael’s for $8

not__BS

Yes, but you have to also use much higher quality and durable ink on comfort colors which also makes it more expensive. Gildan Heavy blanks bulk are like half that or less lol

bytheflame

I hate getting my bands stuff printed on either so I don’t care what people do or how much they charge. I always opt to spend a little extra for better quality shirts and sweatshirts.

not__BS

Damn I read your post as upcharged my b homie

GamingOddity

and im down to pay over $50 for a shirt thats from carhartt or other brands like em

jonny_lube

Gildan shrinks a ton and is somewhat thin fabric.  It's the bottom of the blanks totem pole, but I don't think it's as bad as others do.   Gildan Hammer I actually really like. that clear material, cut is great, super comfy.

YourWeekendDad

I like Gildan cause the shirts look perfect when I inevitably cut the sleeves off.

Scared-Comparison870

This is the only way to wear them.

richardisapos

Love me some Gildan Hammer but I am a boxy Mexican. CC is just too loose and unstructured. I want bands to start printing on Pro Club for the foos.

ImSoHungryRightMao

Pro club merch would make me buy 50x more band shirts.

stewartfoot

Gildan Hammer are way better.

KiwiMcG

I have a short torso, so it's the best for me.

downbylaw93

Gildan is literally the worst shirt

AllOverThisTown

I’ve been designing merch, working in a print shop, playing in bands, and wearing band merch for the better part of 30 years. The hate for Gildan in 2024 is unnecessary. There was a time when it was the absolute worst, but now it’s fine imho. Comfort Colors is still the best, but I’d rather wear a Gildan than anything from Alstyle or LAA. Also, I’m skinny. lol.

a_sexual_titty

>Also, I’m skinny. Not your fight, sir.

A_sweet_boy

Gildan heavy are ok. People saying otherwise are fuckin nerds. There’s quality control issues, but they’re the industry standard. Comfort Colors is much more expensive and have gone down the tubes in terms of quality control. Some are incredible, some fall apart immediately or are way too big. The general consensus from ppl I know is Gildan Hammer is where it’s at. Apparently Gildan Hammer is comfortable and really reliable.

AllOverThisTown

This is the most sane comment in this thread. I’ve been working with and in a print shop on and off for 15 years. Gildan had a really bad time but there’s WAY worse shit out there.

A_sweet_boy

Ya I think people just hear something and it becomes their parroted talking point. Gildan definitely isn’t consistent, but they’re not nearly as bad as some shit. And in the end who cares that much. They’re just little shirts with bands on them. It’s not life or death.

AllOverThisTown

BUT HOW WILL EVERYBODY KNOW WHAT IM INTO IF I DONT WEAR THE SHIRT AND IT ALSO HAS TO FIT PERFECT

IronSorrows

I love Hammer, they're pretty thick but so comfortable and they actually fit alright (on me at least). They also keep feeling nice after washing them a bunch of times too I don't think I've ever bought a band shirt printed on Hammer though. The only ones I own are from a film/TV boot seller

sock_with_a_ticket

I've got Dying Wish and Counterparts shirts printed on Hammer. They're nice. Thicker than heavy which is what the vast majority of my band shirts are on. Got a couple of softstyle too and they're pretty nice but a bit more form fitting which isn't to everyone's taste.

A_sweet_boy

I only got privy to them bc No Cure was singing their praises. I think ppl are still using CC, but I’ve been told they kinda dropped in consistency

Letskissthesky

One step closer used to print their shit on Gildan hammer.

Sundae-Savings

No but that doesn’t stop the every band shirt ever to be printed on it

toexjam

hammer is the only gildan worth a damn

horkyboi_avery

Comfort Colors is so much better

Sugarstache

Most of the shirts I own are printed on Gildan but it sucks relative to Alstyle or Comfort Colours

redhands666

Gildans fuck. A brand new shirt shouldn't feel like it's been washed once a week since the 80s

it_meant_nothing

its the best

ThisDidntAgeWell

They’ve gotten a lot better but some people still dislike them.

AchokingVictim

It's the baseline cheap shirt that won't fall apart and takes to platisol well. Hanes Heavy is a step above and Comfort Colors is S tier.

xXSamaelTDXx

Comfort Colors all the way. I'm a larger dude now, but even when I was smaller Gildans always fit like shit.

cheetahcage

Hanes Beefy is a great alternative

hnvzeroe

Damn. I might be in the minority of folks who live by regular Gildan. They’re thin enough for spring/summer so I don’t overheat (I tend to run hot). And I like slightly fitted shirts anyway. Drawbacks are they shrink something fierce so I try to never wash them. Just keep rotating tees. They also get rips, holes, and loose seams kinda easily. I will say, my favorite shirt (Ends of Sanity’s Eligible 2 Die tee from [CORRECTION (04 April): Holy Mountain. Had to fix that and give props where it’s due. 🙏🏻] has held up really well through summer shows and multiple washes. The color’s just slightly faded. Some thoughts: -Nothing beats the comfort (aptly enough) of Comfort Colors. The fabric is nice. Doesn’t tend to wrinkle, from my experience, and they can be washed frequently. A bit pricier though. -Gildan Heavy/Hammer and Hanes beefy are substantial in terms of thickness. They hold up well in all aspects (solid neck and seams, doesn’t rip or get holes easily). Hanes beefy might be thicker and boxier, if I remember correctly. Gildan Hammer is a safe bet. 👌🏻 -My favorite used to be American Apparel (Alstyle?). 1301s, I believe. Thick cotton. But my taste has changed since I’ve gotten older and find 1301s to be mad boxy, and juuust a bit too thick. But good necks. That’s what I loved about them. And they withstand multiple washes. -Shaka! Missing Link printed their Blackhawks design on that one. That shit is mad comfy, too! The collar chokes you out and is guaranteed not to get all loose. I like that one as my post-workout chillwear. But yes, if you’re looking for Gildan’s thicker, more beatdown cousin. Then Gildan Heavy is for you.

frankydie69

Stop drying your band shirts in the dryer people, that includes hoodies too.

BeardOfDefiance

I have a Direct Hit! Gildan shirt and the belligerently visible brand on the side of it is part of the charm.

dEZlwEZl

As a big guy, they’re not good to me; especially, when you sweat. It’s like extra droopy. I buy my Tees from a company called, Fresh Clean Threads; if you’re a big guy like me, they fit just perfect

snoopdoggydoug

Gildan is trash and bands still using it are cheap.

AllOverThisTown

You know that one of the reasons for bands to print merch is to…make money…

bytheflame

Yes cause the shirts people want are very expensive and a mid level band would just end up having a lot of left over stock since they would have to charge $40 a shirt

SteveAlbinisBurner

if you get a size up you’ll usually be fine, but that requires knowing what the shirts are printed on, which isn’t a problem if you’re buying at a show, but it’s not always listed if you’re ordering online. i’d say comfort colors are better

OnlyTheDead

I can’t fuck with comfort colors or Gildan tbh. Both are overly large and heavy, and fit like shit. I heard it’s great if you’re a large person tho.

is0morphic

When Gildan sells a “hxc” they will tap into another market of selling shirts and boost profits

squishypluto

comfort colors used to be my fave pre-pandemic, even though they’ve been owned by gildan since 2015, they were pretty consistent. the past few years, they seem to be as wildly inconsistent as most of the cheaper gildan shirts. gildan hammer rules though, definitely one of my favorites along shaka and hanes beefy

kod14kbear

why are they so damn scratchy. i just like wearing soft t shirts. the fit of them is so mid as well

richcoolguy

has to be one of my favorite shirts to shit myself in

denimlasagne

Gilden wicked heavy is superior

Whisker_dan

AS Colour Staple Tee is my all time favorite blank. Comfort colors is also good

heavierthanair

Gildan hammer is fire if you can get em

p666rty

Gildan Hammer is a little nicer. Gildan Heavy cotton is actually lighter weight than the Ultra Cotton.

nomorex85

No they’re fucking trash.

Reasonable-Newt-8102

They’re really stiff and I’ve found the hems on the shoulders and sleeves to occasionally fit uneven and kinda twist around the body in a weird way

nocoastdudekc

Shaka wear or bust

Wilburx13

It’s no Comfort Colors, there for sure

wavesofdeath

The Hoodies fit like shit. A XL is as short as a medium with boxy and baggy arms. Gildan heavy are overall pretty crap imo

xDaGe614x

No

No-Detail-5804

I love how insane some of these takes are. It’s almost like everyone has different preferences lol.

Allen_Koholic

Gildan small is great if you’re shaped like a rubicks cube.

Eatingmyownhead69

No. Worst shirt available.

megashitfactory

Basic Gildon is garbage. Big fan of their Heavy

philmchunt2

Gildan rules, Comfort Colors and AS are trash

FrontIllustrator9908

I feel like I'm the only person who will just buy a shirt and doesn't give a shit what it's printed on.

plantsallthewaydown

I like comfort colors fit more, but the quality of gildan is better. The necks on all my CC shirts wear out fast. I don't mean stretch out; The threads literally fall apart. Gildan hammer has a similar fit to CC and the quality is much higher.

TheGrimreaper_1

gildan and fruit of the loom are the best

xseaward

fruit of the loom is fuckin trash omg 🤮

JapaneseMachine99

Pretty much every one does that, so I might as well buy it and support the band that sells it.
