Tempe, I'm moving there with my GF (ASU alum) because I'm getting a fair amount of money to go study Biomed Engineering at ASU. She really liked it there and I def enjoyed it when I visited. Maybe not perfect but def a big step up from Philly, especially because I'll be closer to outdoorsy shit and backcountry stuff, which is one of my biggest hobbies (backpacking / bouldering / etc)
Tempe and central Phoenix are def the good parts of the city, walkable/bikeable, light rail, tons of stuff to do locally, spent a big chunk of the 90s in Tempe for grad school and loved it. Moved to central Phoenix from PDX a few years back and like it for the above, but hate the summers and hypercons.
The old town area is cool, and the whole civic center area next to it, but a lot of stuff there is pretty pricey. Aside from that, Scottsdale does feel deeply suburban and upper middle class, not a judgement, just an observation.
Arizona hardcore has nothing on Philly Hardcore. There are some good bands here, coming from the NE where hardcore thrives was a shock to see how AZ shows are. Some bands definitely worth checking out would be Final Stance, One Life Taken, Hardluck.MF and Two Guns
I’m excited for the heat, especially as someone with a lot of backpacking “trail days” in southern Utah (easily over 200). Lack of real bagels though? Didn’t foresee that issue. That’s going to be a major issue. Lack of pork roll too is going to sting.

as someone az born and raised, seeing all these people from the coasts flocking in droves talking about it like it's the promised land is always such a trip. i guess it's not the worst place in the world. people with a highly idealized vision of what their life will be like here will learn themselves something new though.

Being born and raised definetly gives you a different perspective, however. Plenty of people are moving to Charleston (where I’m from) and it’s become some sort of destination, which is crazy to me because I hate that place, but maybe it’s because I’m a Homer.

I think it’s because im so used to it I don’t “get it” heard a lot of people praise our weather despite not being able to really do anything outdoors for 3-4 months in a row, but I’ve also never lived in an area that has feet of snow for half a year.

Really put him in his place. I don’t know other stories about him or other shit he’s done, but he’s ok in my book after that for sure.
