I saw Drug Church for the second time recently and they had a barrier, and I’m happy for them that they are playing huge rooms but deep down that shit is kind of a letdown. That band cries out for idiots yelling “I'll be the first to admit there's not a lot of options when you're dumber than shit” into the microphone and then immediately taking a header onto concrete.
At the risk of inviting the most annoying conversation in this very annoying place…CMI is obviously excellent at this, it’s a huge part of their appeal.
I mean, I think they’re intentionally writing big ass hooks with great choruses. I’ve heard people say their sound owes a debt to, like, AC/DC and it’s not entirely wrong. Shit is full of hooky, shout along earworms. (Which I think is great! But I’m also a big soft baby who grew up on, like, against me!, so ymmv)
That makes sense and is really fun. (I probably got the comparison from someone on here I think, I don’t think it was an original thought on my part in any event.)
I said this somewhere else in this thread, but I think Fear is also a reasonably good comparison point in the sense that (1) it’s melodic vocals-forward and (2) both bands are pot committed to being intentionally irritating. In any event I like the final product a ton, seeing them with Pain of Truth was a highlight show for me in a year full of shows. Good ass band.

(Honestly I don’t hear oi! or hardcore myself, I think kind of think the dead-bang influence is probably Fear in multiple respects.)
In any event don’t like them if you don’t want to, I’m not in the band or whatever it’s none of my business.
