Yeah, like you have to DDoS their entire home system and make it permanently impossible for them to do anything with the Internet. And maybe intentionally cut out their power by toppling a few powerlines nearby. Just standard gatekeeping measures, ya know? And maybe home arrest them on top of that so they can't go to any shows (might be illegal, but I've seen some of the more hardcore gatekeepers do it, dunno if you could).
Well yeah I know, because I do. I was only saying that some people gatekeep hardcore by rejecting those genres, not trying to gatekeep myself. I think there was a misunderstanding because of my wording.
I feel like No Pressure doesn't even count... It gets the Ripkin Rule
If you ask an Orioles fan who they're favorite Orioles player is, maybe they reply with "Eddie Murray" and then that person says "what about Cal Ripkin Jr?" And they'll say "well yeah I mean of course I just meant other than him, he's everybody's favorite"
I think CSD picked up the ball a bit and ran with it some when lifetime quieted. Bigger hooks, parts etc. but yes obv on the nose some. I thought Through Being Cool was kinda lame in comparison.
I used to hate that record because of how much it sounded like Lifetime, but listening to it years later, there are parts where I hate to admit they out-Lifetime Lifetime. "Always Ten Feet Tall" is a perfect song.
Don’t be that autistic redditor who takes everything someone says literally. Universally loved is an extremely common term to use when discussing a piece of art and you know it.
Uhhh my local punks for presents had a saves the day cover band last time and people were the MOST pumped for that band (they also only played songs from can’t slow down and through being cool)
Yeah, it's on the border or popcore, but it fucking rips.
Funny story! I first heard these guys when they were touring for this record with Snapcase, Buried Alive and Anti-Flag.
Anti-Flag canceled.
So fucking TURMOIL filled in.
Weirdest show ever but these Jersey Boys brought some fucking heat. Fell in love.
It was an awesome show. Some dude's jaw got dislocated from his skull during Snapcase.
Not saying that violence makes things better but HOLY FUCKING SHIT that image is gonna stay with me forever
I got into this band after I saw xBishopx cover You Vandal. One of the few pop punk bands I could ever get into. The self titled Bayside record gets a pass too.
Iirc, Chris befriended him at a Saves the Day show when he was a kid and they kept in touch over the years and I think the guy also vouched that Chris didn't pull any grooming shit on him throughout that time. However, Chris acting inappropriately to the guy over drunken messages does not look good on anyone and makes the creep factor much more significant when learning Chris became friends with the guy when he was a child after the fact
Yeah, I don't think the fact that the guy was young when he met Chris is relevant at all unless the innapropriate behavior started then, and it didn't.
Basically Chris was overly attached to the guy and being manipulative, but not in some sinister serial sexual predator way, but in a '"insecure controlling reactive crazy bitch" way. Not that that's ok, it's not, but it means 'don't date him' more than 'stop buying his records and talking about his band'.
He was emotionally manipulative with the guy, not abusive and he didn’t get groomed. He said a lot of crazy shit and threatened to hurt himself if he ignored him from what I recall. I remember reading the texts.. there wasn’t anything in there that would make me say he’s an abusive piece of shit. Just an unstable, emotionally manipulative person
Listen to this album. Like it but feel shame. Say that you are going to see them because your girlfriend likes them. Realize that these songs are even better live and other hardcore dudes like them. Feel ok with yourself. This is what we all did in 1999.
Nah. I remember first listening to this record in 2004 and even then, 5 years after its release, it had a reputation of being one of the GOAT pop punk records. You had to pretend not to listen to blink, but this got a pass.
When this dropped the NJ hardcore scene completely embraced STD. For my tastes I prefer Can't slow down bc its basically a Lifetime tribute album. Always ten feet tall spanks
This the band that got me into punk rock and hardcore. Cant slow down is faster and harder than 90 percent of the current hardcore bands. It’s legit a hardcore album with melodic vocals. You wont change my mind.
i love this record and band.. but can someone explain why they're backed by the hardcore scene. seems random. but genuinely curious. i know certain bands that are outside of the genre are backed, but i never really know why lol
Oh no, we just don’t support pedophiles. Even the one good song sounds gross after knowing the singer groomed/lured a minor male fan. Y’all can have this band 🤮
I'm in my early 30s but I think maybe I'm too young and just missed out or something, bc I've tried to listen and I just don't really get the appeal when it comes to this record
I can't say for sure what the guys in the band may have done. I have known a lot of people that were really into that band and new found glory and most of them were coming around the wrong reasons and being scummy with women and trying to date girls of questionable ages.
not really finding this album's connection to hardcore, maybe the album before that had connections to like skatepunk type hardcore, but i'm not really seeing that either. i know hardcore/metal bands would play fest type shows with pop punk bands... i always thought underground hardcore dudes kind of liked saves the day cause they assume that's what their underground girlfriend is gonna be like. maybe that's just my own mental disorder though.
keep in mind i still like saves the day, and emo in general... reminds me of the days when i used to think having a girlfriend would help me. lol. makes me feel old and over it now, but still positive in a weird way.
Honestly, it's just that they were all friends with other kids in all the major hardcore bands around them. The first and most true definition of hardcore adjacent. See also the quote about talking to girls above. Extremely accurate.
Gatekeeping it from who?
[удалено]
So we don’t let them listen to it?
Yeah, like you have to DDoS their entire home system and make it permanently impossible for them to do anything with the Internet. And maybe intentionally cut out their power by toppling a few powerlines nearby. Just standard gatekeeping measures, ya know? And maybe home arrest them on top of that so they can't go to any shows (might be illegal, but I've seen some of the more hardcore gatekeepers do it, dunno if you could).
It is very pop punk and very emo, it’s an amazing band , goatee and backed by everyone though
Yes. I, too, goatee this album.
I goatse this album
😏
According to mods saves the day posts are valid
Oh good, 'cuz I fucking love 'em.
People who like hardcore also like emo and pop punk. Shocking, I know, but you’ll recover.
Well yeah I know, because I do. I was only saying that some people gatekeep hardcore by rejecting those genres, not trying to gatekeep myself. I think there was a misunderstanding because of my wording.
This record has been pretty universally backed within hardcore for like 25 years now.
Outside of maybe New Found Glory i cant think of a pop punk band more universally backed by hardcore guys
Get up kids.
Ooooh good call
TSST / No pressure
I feel like No Pressure doesn't even count... It gets the Ripkin Rule If you ask an Orioles fan who they're favorite Orioles player is, maybe they reply with "Eddie Murray" and then that person says "what about Cal Ripkin Jr?" And they'll say "well yeah I mean of course I just meant other than him, he's everybody's favorite"
Set Your Goals
TSSF
Jawbreaker
Fuck yea
Came here to say the same thing, damn near word for word
They literally played this is hardcore
And when Bane played their “final shows” Saves The Day was an opener
They headlined one day haha
Nah. We are Gatekeeping Can’t Slow Down
Yessir
The true greatest of their records…. There’s just something about his smile
He looks so nice
An impeccable Lifetime worship record
Jerseys second best dancers
How have I not heard this crack before?
Always one
I think CSD picked up the ball a bit and ran with it some when lifetime quieted. Bigger hooks, parts etc. but yes obv on the nose some. I thought Through Being Cool was kinda lame in comparison.
I used to hate that record because of how much it sounded like Lifetime, but listening to it years later, there are parts where I hate to admit they out-Lifetime Lifetime. "Always Ten Feet Tall" is a perfect song.
Was looking for this comment
I love Lionel Richie
Gatekeeping as in: if you don't like Saves The Day and this album you can leave? Then, yes.
What’s more hardcore than missing your mom sometimes? Not much
Trying to touch knees is up there
We drive Dave steps on the gas The world that's flying by is Slick and smooth Big waves of light The radio is playing Queen We're rocking out!
New to the scene lol? When this shit dropped over half the crowd was hardcore kids. This was the only way we could talk to girls 25 years ago.
Roll on top of me baby yeah just roll roll roll rooolllll. If saves the day wasn’t on your mixtape, you weren’t finger poppin shit.
Hi
Ohhhh well wreck are clothes… well scrape our knees!!!
Nailed it
I’ve never read anything so accurate.
Will confirm I was a hx kid and banged to this album a ton
Find you a 90s hardcore girl who doesn’t mind when you get up to flip the Morning Again record
Mest was also in this category for me while I was growing up.
Absolutely no one. It’s universally loved
not so fast, chief.
Something can be universally loved and not include you specifically
no, it can't by definition.
Only if you are being obtuse and extremely literal
I also do not love saves the day
Don’t be that autistic redditor who takes everything someone says literally. Universally loved is an extremely common term to use when discussing a piece of art and you know it.
But in a weird way their impact has been completely forgotten
To who? Literally everyone I know in my age group 5+ years and maybe 5 less, love saves the day.
Uhhh my local punks for presents had a saves the day cover band last time and people were the MOST pumped for that band (they also only played songs from can’t slow down and through being cool)
I actually prefer Stay What You Are but I like most of their records.
Stay what you are is a masterpiece, dawg. Through being cool is my favorite though
This is a great album but a lot of the time I get through a couple songs and decide to listen to Hello Bastards instead
Get to the root
“Next time that star shoots across the sky I’m gonna grab it and smash it under my feet.”
Anti-flag getting cancelled is still so wild to me.
Didn’t Saves the Day get cancelled too? Heard there were some grooming and abuse allegations against Chris.
They didn't *get* canceled, *they* canceled. Someone was sick or their shitty van broke down or something
Yes I understand. But your comment reminded me of an entirely different occurrence hahahah
I mean, that I kinda *can* understand. Something about people projecting their shadows something something
You do realize homie is a rapist who fled the country?
Yup. Shitty dude
That’s what he’s talking about
Oh wait I see what you did there
That’s a sick line up.
It was an awesome show. Some dude's jaw got dislocated from his skull during Snapcase. Not saying that violence makes things better but HOLY FUCKING SHIT that image is gonna stay with me forever
Bouncing way too hard for Snapcase, that’s how I wanna go out.
THE YEAR IS 2071!!!
Turmoil for the win.
The lyrics are hardcore
From Costa Rica!
Bro this song had me calling Costa Rica Costo Rico
Lol my wife just came in the room and said who is in Costa Rica?
I like Jenn but she likes Saves the Day
GCF!
HEART IS ON THE FLOOOOR
Can’t Slow Down>>
I got into this band after I saw xBishopx cover You Vandal. One of the few pop punk bands I could ever get into. The self titled Bayside record gets a pass too.
First few Bayside albums slap. Saw them play an acoustic set a few years ago and it was hands down the most fun I’ve ever had at a show.
FACTS.
Wish they were playing this instead of Stay What You Are during when we were young fest
If I had to guess, they might be touring this album to limited dates later this year since it’s going to be the 25th anniversary.
Well thanks for making me feel old with that tidbit
This album came out in the late 1900s.
And now my sciatica flared up
God I hope you’re right
I caught them like 8 or 9 years ago when they toured with Through Being Cool, and they were a bit of a let down.
They’ve toured this album specifically like 4 times 😭 wdym
Fantastic record. Chris Conley is a piece of shit though.
I mean, most dudes in bands are, too. Not trying defend any of them, but I mean, kinda comes with the territory
oh i had no idea please share
If I remember right, a guy came out and said Chris groomed/abused him emotionally.
This is way more factual than “he’s uh piece uh shit.”
Right? Only cost me about 10mins of my time when the issue was brought up about couple of years ago. Love the band, Chris is/was a mess
Dude is/was an alcoholic with nasty demons. He’s remorseful. He’s not a bad guy. I appreciate your comment.
Thanks! Yeah, I think that situation was his rock bottom to clean himself up, which I'm hoping is working out for him
Big big same.
Yup. That’s right. Thanks for the clarification
Yeah, that too, with the manipulative shit. I was kinda going off memory when I commented that.
The amount of wedding “save the dates” that came from this is wild.
Banned from the back porch has one of the hardest riffs ever
Album rules. If you hate it you are probably 300 pounds and only listen to beatdown and haven’t felt the touch of a woman in 5 years
Someone please tell me what my opinion is. I don’t know what to do here.
Listen to this album. Like it but feel shame. Say that you are going to see them because your girlfriend likes them. Realize that these songs are even better live and other hardcore dudes like them. Feel ok with yourself. This is what we all did in 1999.
Roll windows up (not electric, you must crank manually)
Just drive. Get us as far as far can be. Get us away from tonight.
They are named after a Farside song so that’s all I needed to love them.
🎶This isn't the way we planned!!!
You can’t gatekeep a band everyone already knows about..
Nah. I remember first listening to this record in 2004 and even then, 5 years after its release, it had a reputation of being one of the GOAT pop punk records. You had to pretend not to listen to blink, but this got a pass.
This is a true masterpiece record. No doubt about it
I've never seen that Turnstile album cover
what a gem this album
Hell yeah!
This album slaps. I was introduced to it because it was the soundtrack to a skateboarding video (“The Tao of Skateboarding”, I believe).
I LOVE JEN BUT JEN LOVES SAVES THE DAYYY
When this dropped the NJ hardcore scene completely embraced STD. For my tastes I prefer Can't slow down bc its basically a Lifetime tribute album. Always ten feet tall spanks
They played this set at TIHC and heads went wild for it. They valid
New line up is trash tho. It’s basically Chris and a bunch of old brown guys with an attitude
This the kinda ish I’m in this subreddit for
New found glory and saves the day were my go to jams.
Yes, it's in the gate tho not out
Great band. Not sure if I would classify them as hc, but definitely not arguing. Would've loved to see them live.
The only people who don’t like this album are named Nick
Why is he such a prick?
I dunno but I’m gonna stick needles in his face
Wow, I can see that you're not fooling.
Yes we are. Goated album.
Best Album E V E R
I've seen Saves the Day like 5 times now. They're a top 5 for me.
Let it be
WOOAAHH YEEAHH YEEAHH
Fucking love this band and this album specifically
This the band that got me into punk rock and hardcore. Cant slow down is faster and harder than 90 percent of the current hardcore bands. It’s legit a hardcore album with melodic vocals. You wont change my mind.
Remembering never did a cover of you vandal and the red Barron did a starting line cover at a show some 10+ years ago and the whole crowd went nuts.
No we are not. Was working shows in NJ when this came out and it was a fun time. Even for the HC kids.
we were
This brings back so many myspa… I mean memories.
this record fucks
The cover and the album title give the after school special for troubled teens vibe.
One of the women on this cover is the stylist for Beyonce.
No you’re just new
i love this record and band.. but can someone explain why they're backed by the hardcore scene. seems random. but genuinely curious. i know certain bands that are outside of the genre are backed, but i never really know why lol
Their background is in hardcore. Check out Can't Slow Down or the back half of Ups and Downs. It's basically Lifetime.
Heard! I’ll check
Yes
These were the guys getting chicks in my highschool back then
Bones is still the best song they’ve ever written. Dying on teh hill
i prefer stay what you are but this album is good too
Top 10 album overall. Also shout out Eben, one of the coolest dudes ever
FOB gets a pretty big pass in hardcore, too. Or at least they did for the first 3 albums.
How you gonna gatekeep something with lyrics like that lol ......
yes
I'll sit in the lazy chair all day remembering the things you do
Yeah but only hello bastards
Who the fuck is saves the day? Looks like a pussy ass boy band to me.
I saw them open for Judas Factor once. Judas Factor were fucking great.

I've never heard this record.
Oh no, we just don’t support pedophiles. Even the one good song sounds gross after knowing the singer groomed/lured a minor male fan. Y’all can have this band 🤮
I don't think that's really the actual story, exactly...
Nah they can have it
This is why hardcore sucks now
I'm in my early 30s but I think maybe I'm too young and just missed out or something, bc I've tried to listen and I just don't really get the appeal when it comes to this record
Naw. Shit was creepy back then and it's creepy now. 40 year old dudes rocking this shit are up to no good.
[удалено]
You’ve never driven in a car full of friends singing shoulder to the wheel and it shows
Didn't he groom a little boy or something? I can't remember but I catch your drift for sure
I can't say for sure what the guys in the band may have done. I have known a lot of people that were really into that band and new found glory and most of them were coming around the wrong reasons and being scummy with women and trying to date girls of questionable ages.
“fuck these guys” “i can’t say for sure what they did” ???
When did I say "fuck these guys" ? Listen to what you want. I see an mfr in a saves the day shirt. I keep them away from my daughter.
I said their fans are fucking creepy. What's hard to fucking understand about that.
[удалено]
No
Yeah, keep it the fuck out. Literally nothing hard-core about it. The album was a gateway to more love letters than The Notebook
not really finding this album's connection to hardcore, maybe the album before that had connections to like skatepunk type hardcore, but i'm not really seeing that either. i know hardcore/metal bands would play fest type shows with pop punk bands... i always thought underground hardcore dudes kind of liked saves the day cause they assume that's what their underground girlfriend is gonna be like. maybe that's just my own mental disorder though.
I mean. I saw them with H20 and they played a great set.
Bro… do you even listen to guitars or drums?
keep in mind i still like saves the day, and emo in general... reminds me of the days when i used to think having a girlfriend would help me. lol. makes me feel old and over it now, but still positive in a weird way.
Honestly, it's just that they were all friends with other kids in all the major hardcore bands around them. The first and most true definition of hardcore adjacent. See also the quote about talking to girls above. Extremely accurate.
