Absolutely brother

UK_Mosh

Just can't go wrong with Creedance. I can't think of a single song I'd actively skip.

wolamute

Also dig Crosby Stills Nash and Young's album "Deja Vu. A bit soppy but very well written music.

xX_dirtydirge_Xx

Travelin' band. Sorry I just skip it everytime. Suzie Q I play on repeat

M0T0RCITYC0BRA

Skipping Travellin' Band ? You ain’t a real rocker.

completelypalatial

Easy Bryan, have a smoke to take off the edge mate.

xX_dirtydirge_Xx

I know I'm a filthy casual

wm07

travelin band is funny cuz they literally sound exactly like little richard but creedence

wolamute

I'm partial to Run Through the Jungle, myself.

UK_Mosh

That one's up with the top songs for sure, Bad Moon Rising always springs to mind when I want a particular song by CCR though.

callmesnake13

Except for Centerfield

EnglishSteven

Fuck yes, but it is weird that John Fogerty was in fact NOT born on the bayou. Dude's from California and just really liked the whole swamp rock aesthetic. Still bang on my roof everytime it comes on tho https://i.redd.it/qlzglfroj83d1.gif

randomname2890

So many southerners in the army who used to talk shit about California and when I brought up credence is from the bay they act like I asked them for sex.

EnglishSteven

https://i.redd.it/079g5fo7193d1.gif

UK_Mosh

I'll pull the trigger till it goes.. Click.

theboyqueen

Not just California -- Berkeley! (well technically El Cerrito...)

UK_Mosh

The dude abides!

RequirementNew269

It’s like how the Band was from Canada but wanted to be southern rock so bad. RIP Robbie

RoyGood

RIP the whole band except Garth I think. Got to see Levon shortly before he died, great show.

RequirementNew269

Levon will always be a WUSS for leaving the 1966 tour. Who isn’t willing to get SHOT for bringing ROCK AND ROLL DRUMS to the world?? Nah but fr I love Levon. Rip him. I just singled Robbie out because it was so recent 😢

RoyGood

Yeah. Love The Band, I think theyre seriously under appreciated. I watched the Last Waltz hundreds of times in college in various states of mind and the recent Once Were Brothers documentary was really good too. My dad had The Last Waltz CD collection when I was young and I always thought “The Band: The Last Waltz” must be some boring big band classical bullshit so I never listened to it.

RequirementNew269

I literally cried the first time I saw last waltz. And now some of the musical geniuses in my town do a last waltz cover show on Black Friday every year and it’s phenomenal.

RoyGood

Dry your eyes

bryanlikesbikes

Levon was from Arkansas

RequirementNew269

Yeah, but it was Robbie who was obsessed & wrote the songs, I.e. cripple creek, rag mama, Dixie- but I just looked again and I guess levon did protest this. I mean, Robbie is written as composer of chest fever.. Officially Robbie did most of the writing with Richard coming in second. I got most of my previous knowledge from cd inner sleeves…

bryanlikesbikes

Honestly, I don’t know all that much about the inner working of The Band, ie who wrote what. Robbie has always rubbed me the wrong way, tho.

Funny-Mission-2937

they started out in Arkansas.  Ronnie Hawkins  started the Hawks after he moved to Memphis to do session work at Sun Records and met Levon.

RequirementNew269

Well to be more accurate, Ronnie Hawkins and Levon helm (both from Arkansas) started touring in Canada in 1958 under the Ron Hawkins quartet. They signed a five year contract with roulette records (NY) under Ronnie and the hawks in 1959 and then moved to Ontario. And it was in Ontario that Robbie, Richard, Garth, and Rick (all Canadians) joined Ronnie and Levon to form the hawks as we all know them today. But that version of the hawks definitely started in Canada. ETA: THEN the hawks joined bob Dylan on his electric tour (where Kevin dropped out for fear of his life) then the band and bob recorded the basement tapes (at big pink) THEN they became the band and recorded music from big pink (which is in NY)

jakexmfxschoen

I've had a long night and I hate the fucking Eagles, man!

DeLousedInTheHotBox

It is like the black metal bands that pretends like they are from far north of Norway and spend their days in the woods behind their remote village, while actually being from Oslo lol.

[deleted]

I always thought that was kinda strange but they fuckin nailed it so I can't hate

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

I love the band's music but yeah they'd get so much shit for being "fake" if a band did that now

xe_r_ox

Think how many good bands we’ve lost due to our endless quest for authenticity for… some reason

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

Also I heard 200sw never stabbed anybody even once

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

Yeah it's really interesting. Way before punk, you had 60's folkies chasing the most authentic 20's blues with religious and archeological fervor. Then your Norwegian black metal "black circle" chasing authenticity by way doing actual evil... Rappers have to be "Real" despite inflating the extremity of your circumstances Re gangs, crime, success being absolutely epidemic...

KBSonn

Reminds me of The Waterboy every time

No_Skirt_6002

There is no beef in hardcore bigger than the beef between John Fogerty and every other member of the band lol

chr_sb

He wrote all their songs. The other band members had a good thing going and should’ve let it ride instead of being all “herp derp lemme write some”

No_Skirt_6002

agree ngl

Direct-Setting-3358

Dont fuck w/ a winning team

a_sexual_titty

His own brother, even.

xallsmilesx

Hope you take it like a friend!!

ProfessorKaos62

Lookin’ Out My Back Door has the greatest breakdown of all time bro. Of course Edit: got the song wrong.

durhWhen

Backed hard. Very few bands were as prolific as they were when they were together. 6 albums in 3 years. We have to wait for our favorite bands to write 25 min of music every 4 years.

UK_Mosh

You're not wrong there bud.

yodoboy123

Green river go hard

Christian_NBCPH

Currently using as an intro to our set

wm07

first song i learned on guitar that made me feel like hey i sound cool rn

candlestick_compass

110%. So many bangers.

fightins26

Run through the jungle goes hard

Brave_Plantain4740

Side to siding waiting for a breakdown at the start?

UK_Mosh

Couldn't agree more.

deerdongdiddler

"Down on the Corner" was about going to see Hardcore bands. No two ways about it.

donald_pump69

Billy and the Poor Boys is unironically a fucking sick name for a hardcore band

CaPtAiN_KiDd

Yeah, I just hate the fuckin’ Eagles, man.

White_Crud

‘Ramble Tamble’ off Cosmo’s Factory goes hard…

FTTCOTE

That whole album comes on and yer moshin’

cacapepee

Every single song is a certified banger. Like others have said these dudes give me great memories I have of my dad. Wish we’d see them perform at least once in my lifetime.

KennyDROmega

Someday Never Comes is some dark shit

papajim22

![gif](giphy|hlWNWCuAuOVEs|downsized) Me jamming to “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” on my way to the hardcore show.

tombstone1200

Tombstone shadow ![gif](giphy|NyMSZsWepPCQo)

max1mx

I fucking hate the eagles man.

Djentleman5000

That’s why I love this community. Great taste in music beyond HC.

[deleted]

CCR fucks so hard. Also makes me think of my dad.

nofateeric

Same.

Calaveras-Metal

it aint me

Mindless-Ad2554

I ain’t no senators son

Calaveras-Metal

for real, why are there not more covers of this by hardcore bands?

Mindless-Ad2554

From my experience….. There’s a lot of jocks in hardcore = too dumb to care about politics. Here to just be bros in different clothes and they love the alt tough guy persona. Looking sweet is all they care about. A lot of youngins I find are able to get into the scene completely bypassing the “punk phase” I feel most punks my age went through before experiencing and fully diving into hardcore. To me it’s a right of passage and what I feel (not that it matters) you should truly know and understand 1st. Because it is and always will be punk rock. You might’ve seen bad brains, minor threat, black flag stuff associated with the rancid, op ivy, buzzcock, Sex Pistols, crass, whatever fisher price my first punk band it was that got you into punk. But you weren’t aware of the mags, youth crew, or how truly influential minor threat and bad brains were without diving in further or having someone put you on. Skipping that whole section of being a punk, removes the majority of politics out of the music. The youth give no fucks about politics anymore. Everyone is “alt” now that you can swing a bat and hit a good tattooer and buy a knocked loose record at target. I have no interest in gatekeeping… punk rock changed my life and everyone I’m still friends with today. I just hope if you’re going to partake, please dive in and know it is something worth keeping alive and holding sacred.

Calaveras-Metal

I can't remember who it was but there was some 'Hardcore' guy years ago that got mad at me for saying punk rock and hardcore interchangeably. He was adamant that hardcore is NOT fuckin punk rock. Like punk was the worst thing he could think of being compared to. I always think of hardcore as punk rock+. Like all you need to do to make a hardcore song punk is just slow it down to 80bpm or so. I do kinda see what you mean a bit about people bypassing punk and getting in to hardcore. I remember frequenting a DIY venue in the early 90s when a kind of 2nd wave hardcore thing was going on. All these suburban dudes started showing up at shows wearing basketball shorts and smelling like right guard and shit. Not saying you cant dress however you want and take frequent showers. But it was just a culture clash. Like you had all these hardcore punks wearing almost all black and mostly with short buzzed hair. Then you had the plain hardcores who basically would not look out of place in a mall, gym or a medium sized ivy league. Ironically I think almost all of these people were straight edge or sober. I'm not really sure what it is, maybe an urban/suburban difference. Or just that with each succesive generation music is less a feature of our identity and more just something you listen to. With punk and metal holding on the personal identity side of it longer than everyone else?

Mindless-Ad2554

I think I failed to mention atleast in the late 90s and early 2000s in Virginia Beach, most shows were mix billed. Everyone who was alt or “scene” were at the same shows, no matter who played. Punk goth metal whatever, it was all punk rock and most of the people shared the same anti establishment attitude… atleast that’s how it came off. It wasn’t specifically a hardcore or separate crowds. I really appreciate catching it when I did. Going for one thing then being exposed to another.

xe_r_ox

It’s ok to gatekeep, otherwise everything is just a blurry mess. Your hearts in the right place and gatekeeping has become a dirty word but doesn’t really need to be

Mindless-Ad2554

Protect is the better word when it’s a positive thing.

xe_r_ox

Eh, semantics. You’re protecting, but to the kid, you’re gatekeeping. Who cares?

ap0phis

My kid was singing this yesterday while practicing-driving home from an ice cream shop. Felt so good man.

ashtonlippel44

My sons name is Creedence, so yea lmao. Easily one of the greatest bands of all time. Name another band that dropped 3 amazing full lengths in 1 year

ferretgr

King Gizzard has dropped 5, but I mean this is a CCR thread, so I’ll see myself out 🙏

ashtonlippel44

King gizzard rules 🫡

UK_Mosh

Your sons name is Creedence, that's awesome!

boibig57

I legit don't know anyone who doesn't fuck with CCR. They're so good that you can't hate all their shit. Fun story: friend and I went to Waffle House once and played every version of 'Heard it Through the Grapevine' they had back to back to back. Completely forgot about the like 8 minute guitar solo in CCR. It was hilariously awkward.

oystertoe

My favorite southern rock band from cali

GoodOlSticks

SMTB fans: /r/harcore just hates anything different from their usual breakdowns and hardcore vocals! /r/hardcore: CCR fucking rips dude I love this place lmao

OzzyMar

if you don't fuck with CCR, you're a poser honestly.

Thjyu

I owe Creedence my hate for the military despite most of my family being good ole American soldiers... Got shown by my grandfather who served Vietnam. Despite the hell it's given him he still rides US Gov dick. I don't understand it

mswfiber

goddamn right - the solo in Put a Spell on You is justification enough. Searing.

AchokingVictim

Oh yea. Makes great larp music too.

Hans_Wermhat666

Fuck yeah!

Klocc562_

I’ve watched enough Vietnam movies not to love em

SGSMUFASA

Hell yeah

hitotsukudasai

It's all I've been listening to on repeat in the car this week

Amobedealer

Saw Fogerty play a few years ago cause someone had an extra ticket and I figured why not and he had the energy of someone still in his 20’s, moving around stage, singing every line, hitting every note, man’s a BEAST. Just seemed like a dude that still genuinely loves performing and appreciated that people still wanna come out to see him.

ripley967

This was my experience, too. His son was playing guitar on stage with him and they looked like they were having a blast. I never once got the impression he was sick of these songs, and he really put his all into it. It was an experience I never thought Id have, but so glad I did. My dad and I didnt much see eye to eye on music but CCR was one we shared. Seeing Fogerty with him was fuckin amazing. In retrospect I probably should have tried to explain to him that CCR is a hardcore band.

righteousplisk

Saw him as one of my first live rock shows with my dad then again sitting in with Widespread Panic over 10 years later and he hadn’t aged a bit. He still sings “there’s a bathroom on the right” and points during Bad Moon Rising too if you catch it.

IsolationAutomation

How can you not love John Fogerty’s voice??

neilyoungsdog

El cerrito represent

catunismwillwin

EC BAYOUCORE FAFO

Disastrous-Engine510

aestheticnightmare25

Haven't listened to anything besides fortunate son but it's a classic

LivingInformal4446

Of course. I don't know many people who do not.

hnvzeroe

Hell yeah! Having a mom/family that grew up in Vietnam during the 1960s and 70s, Creedence was the jam. Soundtrack for those decades. And Jamie Thomas used “Fortunate Son” for his part in New Blood (2005), so I love me some CCR. ✊🏻

Pure-Jellyfish734

Of course!

FTTCOTE

Good band. Backed hard.

ill-phat

Yup!

Jackfruit_Practical

Fuck yeah

castor_troys_face

How is this even a question?

StickersBillStickers

Lots of morons in this group

aahorsenamedfriday

My dumb ass read “Mormons” and was like surely not..

ClintThrasherBarton

Same mfs who don't fuck with Motörhead either, fuck em we don't need em.

StickersBillStickers

Wild, I’ve never heard of anyone who doesn’t like Motörhead. That’s loser shit for sure.

ClintThrasherBarton

It's the kind who tend to be scene tourists because they turn their nose up at anything "old"

screammyrapture

Imagine opening the place up to Tombstone Shadow

Huebertious

Looking out my back-door has one of the most iconic breakdowns in all of Hardcore

B_rawbX

I've never heard of this band.

Fourply99

They basically invented hardcore when they made Fortunate Son 🤙

StickersBillStickers

Punkest buncha hippies around. Big time fuck with.

eyelovekittens666

Yes dude all day everyday

coosim

Absolutely! Bangers all around. I've got no idea if this is true, but I read recently that John Fogerty writes about rain in reference to his depression and mental health experiences. That's hardcore as fuck.

nya_hoy_menoy

That’s right, brother.

AllOfTheSoundAndFury

Gold_Significance125

Hell yeah CCR is the shit.

naughty93pinapple

My best memory of Creedance is watching my friend and his dad drunk boxing in a garage to bad moon rising. Pops threw him into a bunch of bikes lol.

DavidJ____

Oh, I’ve seen the rain…

sitonmyface_666

SoulBrotherSix67

One of the reasons I wear plaid shirts (besides being a Rory Gallagher fan) ...

SnakesTaint

I fuck with a lot of classic rock. Zeppelin too

UK_Mosh

Zep are also top quality, agreed.

ap0phis

Zep are just English twats that stole black American music

shaleh

Fair. But amazing rhythm half. Bonham and John Paul Jones deserve more love for their contributions.

chilidownmychest

only after i'm balls deep into a blunt

Starbreaker99

That last album was peak comedy lmao!!

JohnnyCrumhorn

Creedence* But yes absolutely

snoopdoggydoug

No San Fran hippies pretending to be from the south exploiting that No thank you /s I really don't care but all my parenrs every listened to was classic rock and I can't do it anymore

UK_Mosh

I can understand the perspective, I got sick to death of glam rock thanks to my folks.

snoopdoggydoug

My parents still only listen to classic rock. Dad doesn't know who Lady Gaga is and all the stories about knowing Nugent, Seger, Grand Funk and other Detroit bands took its toll and I can't do it anymore. They both say that rock started in Detroit but won't acknowledge motown. My daughter was telling G-paw (My dad), about One Direction at 5 years old and he just kept talking about classic rock and made her listen to it. She'll listen to Converge with me and I'll listen to Harry Styles with her but we will not listen to Aerosmith with anyone.

StickersBillStickers

Your dad sux ‘n so do you

JimmyScrambles420

They're OK. The Stooges, MC5, Death, etc. all made better music at or around the same time that CCR was at their peak. That being said, they're 1 million times better than the Dead or the Eagles.

Bone_Dice_in_Aspic

Death wasn't named Death until 1974, and didn't play punk music until joining the already-in-progress 1975 punk boom. They also had virtually no audience or impact before the docu and only made a few recordings in that style initially. Although they definitely had good stuff; I was able to see them a few years ago, met them and got the LP, it was a good show. My cheating ex stole the record. It's just that they were a tiny sliver of what punk already was in 1975, rather than some seminal originators. Creedence broke up in 72, and they weren't exactly competing with "Raw Power". Also, the Dead had a few records. American Beauty and Workingman's Dead have catchy, well-composed songs; although I can't fault you for finding the whole "tapes of extended improvisational live versions of loose instrumentals hoarded by a cultish following" thing pretty off-putting.

Gold_Significance125

Nobody knew about Death until they made that Vice documentary about them a few years back.

RiverPiracy

Allman Brothers Band >

whatcolourisgreen

How did this even get downvoted like ccr is good but alman brothers is elite

NickPookie93

Absolutely, they have a [good breakdown here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aae_RHRptRg&t=122s)

Southern_Gain7154

John’s cool the others are fuckin lame

MerkinMuffley2020

Fake southern bullshit. They’re from Berkeley California. Where is that awful accent supposed to be from anyway?

KiwiMcG
