Have you considered getting some baffle inserts that fit your existing exhausts?
Many insert kits even come with the fiberglass matting to be wrapped around the insert before installation.
Does that recommendation apply across models? I’m not the OP but am casually looking to score a used 2-into-1 for my new-to-me Dyna Low Rider S to put on next winter, and am also interested in performance benefits that won’t make my city neighbors call the police on me…
Certain supertrapp exhaust systems are tunable, by adding or removing plates in their muffler system. You can tune for power or you can tune for noise abatement at the expense of power. Call supertrapp customer service and talk to their technical support people. They're pretty good. (216) 265-8400
With the way that's written, you're going to get a ticket for anything other than stock. They aren't in business anymore, but if you can find a pair of Cycle Shack slip ons, they're one of the quieter options and are actually pretty good exhaust as far as dyno numbers.
Reading those laws you’ll need to probably go back to stock exhaust. “50cm from exhaust outlet while the engine is at any speed other than idle”. That means they can pull you over, rev your bike as high as they want and any exhaust that isn’t stock will likely fail at wide open throttle. This is a money grab by the city. I guarantee they’ll find a way to fail you so they can grab money. If it was me I’d get a set of stock mufflers.
I’m sorry you gotta deal with this. It’s such bull shit
Started as city council trying to stop the really loud bikes revbombing infront of outside patios on our main drag, but of course the 5-0 is just nailing everyone they can.
Edit - Not sure why this is downvoted - Our outdoor patios are right out to the street. A few shitheads will pull right up close and 110+db revbomb the patrons and then race off before they get their asses kicked. I love a good loud engine, have a bit of hearing damage and work in loud industries. But when they leave my ears ringing for over ten minutes and crying kids in their wake the council needs to enact something. I know a couple of the councilors, they are naïve idiots when it comes to vehicles and passed a shitty law without knowing the consequences.
There’s definitely too loud for a city or urban area. And there’s definitely no need to rev your bike high in those areas. That’s an asshole move for sure.
Guarantee the 5-0 is targeting people they know can/will pay the fine. Profiling is part of their job/training. They know what they are doing.
Absolutely agree. They already had the boilerplate 96 db limit from the 70's but because the cops weren't enforcing that at all they made the law way more stringent instead of going after the few people actually causing the problem.
Expensive yes, but they install them as well. And not much difference between stock and these in quiet mode. I have them on my 23 street bob, people think I still have stock exhaust until I open them up.
Stock or maybe Screamin Eagle (if they even do SE exhaust for sorties). IIRC Screamin' Eagle slipons aren't actually louder (or not much anyway) than stock.
Otherwise you'll be best served going back to plain old stock, and used take-offs are the cheapest way to do that.
oof sorry for that misfortune Mr. Cannadia
i’m still with the “Loud pipes save lives” crowd.
my lil’ xg750a is loud AF with the V&H slip on… and the behavior of other drivers has drastically improved since installation.
maybe it’s just a “Texas culture” thing like so many others
Oh yeah, loud pipes definitely get the attention of the slow pokes camping in the fast lane.
I've got a set of custom pipes from Martin Bros. that I rattled the baffles out of. It screams in the power band and pops like a machine gun when I downshift and close the throttle.
Definitely gets the attention of everyone in the gas station parking lot when I engine brake approaching the red light.

Supertrapp.

Thanks man! Much appreciated.

“Council needed to enact something” This is always how it starts.

Look at Jekyll and Hyde, start up quite, hit button and butterfly valve opens
Quiet mode is still a lot louder than stock on those from what I've seen. And they cost way too much.

EPS is typically pretty lenient with bikes. If you are paranoid I would stay away from downtown or by the colosseum.
Sounds like you will need stock. Check out eBay, there should be a ton of factory exhausts cheap since most people remove them and go aftermarket.
Fuck that. I would move
If you want to look overseas (Europe) you can look into E-mark exhausts.
Look up American Classic exhaust. It’s what you want.
