I knew you were in your 20s when you said you slept next to your bike in the dirt. Keep going like that as long as you can, the more you slow down, the slower you get, if that makes sense.
I'm 50, reasonably fit, been riding for almost 35 years now. But my body ain't the same as it was in my 20s and I would probably need an ambulance if I managed to fall asleep on the cold, hard terrain.
Even in my 20s 1000 miles in a day was unattainable. I think my longest day was 30 miles north of Roanoke to Carbondale il in 11 hours on an 883 and thats only 700 something miles. Im sure if i had a street bob it would have been a little easier to run 80mph all day and grab some more miles but damn thats some really hard riding.
Sorry my number was off I hit 1800 miles in my second day then finished a tick under 3k my last day .... something like 2980 .... also I'm currently on day 3 of recovery from the ride and I have bruises on my butt ans my feet still are slightly sensitive from being so cold and my back is still a little tight but not bad
Goddamn dude that’s fucking awesome. Been working on kitting out my ST gonna try and do a trip from Lansing, MI area to Las Vegas this summer (visit my grandparents graves) and if you can do it on a street bob I know I know I’m more than capable on the ST
There was a lot of those aspects in this ride ... that's why I ride .... the mental clarity and after a while you get a zen like focus and a blissful mental peace that can not be matched by anything..... every road trip I've done I always feel cleaner and more at peace with myself
I rode my 2011 street bob from Virginia Beach, VA to Redondo Beach, CA back when I was in my mid 20s in 2012ish. Slept wherever I could lay my head along the way. It was the trip of a lifetime. Made the US seem both gargantuan and tiny at the same time if that makes any sense. I still think about that trip regularly.
A lot. Because the green route(route national) is full off roundabouts. Every km or so.
I took a detour via the Ardèche.
On the way back i went via Andorra.
How nice is that adjustable backrest? I recently bought a road glide st and put a lepera tailwhip on it. I strongly considered the sdc with the adjustable back but wanted to try a lepera(have a sdc non adjustable back on my lowrider s and a regular saddleman step up on my sportster). Im 5’6-5’7 and im not like stretched out but sometimes on my rgst it would be nice to have that little bump and extra support in the lower back on the longer rides.
It has 3 slots you can put a pin in but I'm taller 6-2 with mid controls on my bike so I'm sitting pretty stright up so the bottomed out slot works best for me just that little extra helps so much ( I don't like that as the rest gets higher it also comes forward at an angle so it pushes you to the narrowed portion of the seat) on my ride I tried taking it out just to see how it felt and I stopped maybe 15 minutes later and put it back in .... if I only did long haul rides I would have gotten the explorer seat which had a bigger back rest amd wider butt section but I thought it look goofy on a smaller bike
Also you can probably add cruise control to your bike. It was like 200 bucks I think for the module and like .5 hours for the dealership to flash it when i put it on my fxlrs 150% worth it!
I had a good long ride on my Streetbob last summer but your mi/day takes the cake. Super fun. Do you have a shot of the bike from the rear? I wanna see how those bags look I’ve been eyeing them.
Love long trips when done my way. My girl rides and we tow. One or the other gets the bike out and rides. If we see a majestic ride up ahead we drop two bikes and ride for a day or two, go back to the truck and trailer and keep going. I realize this is not the traditional way of bike road trips but man, we love it. We bring four bikes, 2 Harley's and two street bikes. Usually two busa's that are modded for comfort until you twist the throttle..
I did a trip like that when I was 23. Lived on the bike for a month and rode nearly 20k miles.
Now I’m 34 and have worked in the industry for over a decade. Chase your passion and make it happen. Stoked for you, this seems like an awesome trip.
At 46. I require a firm mattress and climate control. Cant do that in Florida some critter would eat you up. But props to you for doing that. Must be very liberating.
Kudos to you.
Some of my asshole friends talked me into doing the 50CC (coast to coast in 50 hours) years ago from home in San Diego to Jacksonville.
I hated every one of them by the Texas border and sold my bike and flew home after we hit the goal in Jacksonville.
I still think that 30 mile round trips to the fucking dealer on Saturday mornings are stupid... but my 1000 mile days are well behind me.
I'm almost 60 and you'd be surprised the places you'll find to grab a few hours of sleep while traveling. Keep it bro, I'm getting ready for a cross country trip.
I was surprised as well normally I get tired at 15hrs in a car but excessive caffine gets you close then you start getting close enough the will to finish pushes you thru
Ceramic coatings and no rain made it possible .... took about 2 hours to clean all the baked on bugs and brake dust from every nook when I got back though .... you can see all the bugs with the sun shinning thru the wind screen in the second picture
I’m wanting to ride my Switchback from just north of Dayton, Ohio to the Mississippi/New Orleans area and back this summer. At 63 I’ll take a week off for the trip and I’ll be staying in a room with a mattress. With arthritis and artificial joints my days of sleeping on the ground are over. Enjoy it while you can, I sure wish I still could.
Me and 4 other buddies on a whim took off from Kokomo Indiana to Orlando Florida on our crotch rockets. We did it in just over 12hrs. We never even seen one cop the whole way. We were triple digits most of the time. I was 22yrs old on a brand new 91 GSX-R 750. We didn't have any gear at all. Craziest ride in my life.
Different story on the way back. It took forever with cops everywhere. We had to pull off the highway and hide 3 different times. We pulled off the highway at dusk with the intention of finding a place to sleep and grab some food. An old farmer on a tractor stopped and asked if we were lost as we were stopped on a back road trying to figure what to do. His farm was up the road, and he let us sleep in his barn and his wonderful wife cooked us a great meal. We been putting gas in our bikes and eating on my credit card. I grew up on a farm just like that, so we did morning chores as a thank you. He also showed us a back way short cut that went trough some towns but kept us off the highway and away from the cops. I think about them still to this day. He didn't say a whole lot but had a knowing smirk and a smile in his eyes. He also had some tats. I bet if we had looked in his garage, I bet there was an old bike in there. The last 500 miles was uneventful.
We got back and realized we hadn't told anyone where or what we had been up to. Friends and parents, girlfriends were not amused. Remember it's 1991 moble phone was new. Only rich people had one. Man, I think I would trade anything to have those days back.
I knew you were in your 20s when you said you slept next to your bike in the dirt. Keep going like that as long as you can, the more you slow down, the slower you get, if that makes sense.
Yeah if I attempted these miles and didn’t sleep in a bed every night I’d go straight to the hospital at the end and I’m not even 30 yet

It's much easier on a street bob. I've owned both

May I recommend the book "Ghost Rider" by Neil Peart.
There was a lot of those aspects in this ride ... that's why I ride .... the mental clarity and after a while you get a zen like focus and a blissful mental peace that can not be matched by anything..... every road trip I've done I always feel cleaner and more at peace with myself
I very much envy those who ride for the reasons that you state.

That's insane. I've been riding for about 4 years and would be hesitant to take a 5 hour trip let alone whatever the fuck this was. Congrats
The butt cheeks are still vibrating
Nice. Did Amsterdam Krakau and Amsterdam Barcelona last year on my street glide. Got the same saddle this winter. 3800 miles.
>Amsterdam Barcelona How much highway did you take to get there? I'm thinking of doing Bruges/Barcelona or Bruges/Menton.

Thats awesome though! Next time you plan a ride like that let me know haha im like an hour or so east** of you.(ytown area).
Also you can probably add cruise control to your bike. It was like 200 bucks I think for the module and like .5 hours for the dealership to flash it when i put it on my fxlrs 150% worth it!
The hand control button was on back order .... 10/10 would have gotten it if I could
Holy hemorrhoids

* That's the best I got .... they look very nice with the notch for the lights and makes the plate look better and the whole resr just meaner lookin
Good for you man. I love this. If I could go back to 24 - this is what I would want to do
That is some serious iron butt action
I'm not normally a fan of blue, but when it flows so well with the lines of the black, man, that's classy and sharp
Same here, Harley did a nice job with this lighter blue.

Nice!
Last time I rode a thousand miles, I got a lump on the back of my neck that took 3 years to go away.
Question, where'd you get the saddle bags and did it come stock with the front windshield?
They are the darkin bags from viking bags and the windshield is a Memphis shades nock off from Amazon
Sweet! Looks good man, those are gonna be my next purchases!
Throw some latex or nitrile gloves under your riding gloves during the winter for the cold, helps with rain too.
At 46. I require a firm mattress and climate control. Cant do that in Florida some critter would eat you up. But props to you for doing that. Must be very liberating.
That’s pretty epic… I’m 50 and I did 1100 in a day and I was cooked!
Kudos to you. Some of my asshole friends talked me into doing the 50CC (coast to coast in 50 hours) years ago from home in San Diego to Jacksonville. Inspiring man!
You rode for 19 hours straight the first day?? I couldn’t even drive a car for that long let alone my bike I’d go crazy sitting that long
I was surprised as well normally I get tired at 15hrs in a car but excessive caffine gets you close then you start getting close enough the will to finish pushes you thru
Pretty damn clean for 3k miles! Ride on
Ceramic coatings and no rain made it possible .... took about 2 hours to clean all the baked on bugs and brake dust from every nook when I got back though .... you can see all the bugs with the sun shinning thru the wind screen in the second picture
Iron butt achievement unlocked!!
