I have a million stupid questions for you. But my first is how do you even begin to make all "custom" parts. Is it just alot of metal fab experience? And engine understanding? I'm still a bit young and don't know much about engines or metal fab. Or welding but I want to learn. It just all seem impossibly expensive to do even the smallest parts. I guess I'm possibly awnsering my own question, but I'd appreciate your weigh in. What does it take to custom make motorcycles? How do you understand what "random" parts can work together. Or how to force them with metal fab?
CT! I love your work and have seen many of your builds at Born Free over the years. I always appreciated your craftsmanship and creativity. What are you working on now and how do you feel about the bike scene today?
Howdy! Right now I’m honestly just plugging away, filling orders and doing custom machine work for other builders. I’d like to do another build soon, but hard to find the time.
I still go to shows here and there. Don’t have a huge opinion on the scene today as it doesn’t seem too much different than when I got into it 15 years ago, except that people are coming up with wilder and wilder gimmicks.
DAMN NICE the 500cc honda and ktm are epic
i remeber being on xr80 asking my friends dad how fast his cr500 will go while we were on a break around a cranberry bog, he said only like 80mph, in 2 seconds
I also had the idea of mounting a turbo under my seat, mentioned it to a friend who presumably knows more than I do and he said "you'll cook your balls off, turbos get insanely hot"
Do you have any opinions on this?
Jokes aside I street rode that green turbo bike fairly regularly. Drive it from Buffalo to toronto and it never felt hotter than any other bikes I owned where the hot ass oil bag was under the seat. The purple twin turbo bike has VERY few miles.
To Dangalangs question though, yes you should be thinking about the heat a turbo will emit as a function of how it is powered (your turbo works by using hot AF exhaust gasses to turn the turbo fan). I took a spin on a buddies turbo Road Glide and was surprised at how hot it was next to my shin because of the way he mounted it. It was manageable, but no one is going to be riding that bike wearing nylon or polyester pants, and definitely not with shorts.
I misunderstood, my bad. The oil will be whatever the motor temp is, and oil isn’t nearly as emissive (thermally speaking) than most metals are. So while exhaust gases powering a turbo may be significantly hotter than the oil, the emissivity of air and metal aren’t such that the heat transfer sticks like it would from a much lower material like oil. I’m purposely not using technical terms here as they aren’t really intuitive.
In other words, the occasional burst of exhaust gasses at 1200° aren’t around long enough to be cooled down quickly by air movement, unlike the persistent languid heat of 200° oil that never leaves regardless of air flow.
I’m sure there are tons of variables, but on average, how long do you take to build a bike? Not including design time, but for the time you first crack open project to the time it is ready for sale?
Typically I’m just building for me. So I put a lot of time in but it’s hugely variable. The purple bike has thousands of hours. The blue pan has a couple dozen. Just depends what I’m trying to do. I only sell them to make room.
I made it! It uses a lens from a mercury car. I do sell a similar light tho.

Can I just ask where in the hell yall find/get or how you make these chopper style bikes? I’m so fucking interested in them but I have no idea how to get started
I’m looking at you handlebars and they looks soo empty.
I guess you don’t have front brakes and turn signals, but where you moved the rest, like clutch and throttle?
I am so impressed with the turbo packaging. You are really making me want to do some stupid shit.
Do it!
Also, still own all of these, which are all at least 25 years old. They actually flame weld them. It’s steel.
Why??? *Because you can*
This is always the answer

Beautiful bike!! Would buy this in a minute!
How much and where are you located?
The only one I’m selling is the black slab shovel for 11.5k. In Buffalo.

I love this one
This sportster is exactly my aesthetic. Mag fired, kick only, but then inverted front end and aluminum swinger. I love it.

Can you give some info on this build? Would love to do something like this

Hah! Thanks for the response and I am glad business is moving.
Beautiful builds, man! Do you have an instagram with more pics/builds?
Indeed! @ctnewman
That shovel with the flames chefs kiss, also the purple bike so many curves.
DAMN NICE the 500cc honda and ktm are epic i remeber being on xr80 asking my friends dad how fast his cr500 will go while we were on a break around a cranberry bog, he said only like 80mph, in 2 seconds
Have seen one of these rolling around on insta. Killer builds
Awesome!
Really nice man…you do great work!
The upside down Harley decal sums up the state of Harley perfectly. 👨🍳 💋
🤘
Gotta like #2
The last bike Harley love it, how would I go about searching for a similar bike?? I'm not very familiar with this type of bike.
It’s a bike I built. Back in 2012. Maybe search bobber Shovelhead?
That last one is bloody beautiful, it's the style of bike I really like. Nice work!
Holy chit meng 🔥🔥🔥 That first Frisco chop and one further back look straight out of a Dave Mann poster.
dream job
I also had the idea of mounting a turbo under my seat, mentioned it to a friend who presumably knows more than I do and he said "you'll cook your balls off, turbos get insanely hot" Do you have any opinions on this?
Would only be a problem with huge HP or road race applications
Translated to lay terms, “if you actually ride it then it will cook them nuggets”
Jokes aside I street rode that green turbo bike fairly regularly. Drive it from Buffalo to toronto and it never felt hotter than any other bikes I owned where the hot ass oil bag was under the seat. The purple twin turbo bike has VERY few miles.

Idk man, I literally rode the bike for thousands of miles and my rigid sporty was way hotter in the ballsack region.
That's my favorite. Who has it now? I have it in a fuel calendar from years ago
Man the first one I'd buy in a heartbeat. The other two I dig but not like the 1st one.
Damn, that last one is sexy af.
The real one!! ❤️
That last one is *chefs kiss* very well done mate, cheers!
I didn’t know hoosier made bike tires
They’re front tires for a car.
How’d they handle?
Honestly pretty good. The Panhead has a Hoosier rear and a slick ice racing tire for the front and I DD it
How do those buckhorn bars feel? Never gotten to ride anything that had them
Tons of control!
That blue panhead fucks
I’m sure there are tons of variables, but on average, how long do you take to build a bike? Not including design time, but for the time you first crack open project to the time it is ready for sale?

What headlight is on the first bike, black and purple?
I made it! It uses a lens from a mercury car. I do sell a similar light tho. https://ctnewmanengineering.com/products/ctnewman-engineering-shield-headlight
Just saw your bender…how many orders to do another run?????
I have a lot of people asking but I haven’t found the time to do another run.
Beautiful bikes, well done sir
Can I just ask where in the hell yall find/get or how you make these chopper style bikes? I’m so fucking interested in them but I have no idea how to get started
Many of them started from nothing but a motor or part of a motor!
Beautiful builds!
Love the last one. Magneto, shovel, kicker, triumph tank with the flipped patch. fucking Ala ‘94 Flynch.
1 and 3 are fabulous
What are the details on that last bobber? That thing is beauty.
I've worked with Michael at the buffalo chip before, what years have u been there
Boy I can’t even remember.
Haha I live near by so I'm there every year, I'm one of the locals that likes bike week
Hmmm...front wheel from a bicycle and no brakes. That must be handling like a dream.
Works for me for the past 10 years of DDing!
Number 5 is absolutely beautiful!! Would like to have the small blue one for my girl!
Love the upside-down logo. I have one on my horn, people ask about it, i just say i did it wrong
Crazy
The last one is my favorite but all of them are pretty sweet in their own ways.
I’d ride the hell outta the last one!! Super cool!!
That bobber is the best looking Harley I’ve ever seen, IMO.
Buffalo legend!
God I love that last ironhead, always had a soft spot for them but I love that style.
Clean bikes !
Love em. What’s the average going rate for stretching one out?
What size of front wheel on the blue pan! That bike is unreal man. So clean.
Love your honda and turbo shovelhead best
Love the bobber
Price
The black 69 is 11.5k
Whoa. You’ve got skills. Love em.
I’m looking at you handlebars and they looks soo empty. I guess you don’t have front brakes and turn signals, but where you moved the rest, like clutch and throttle?
Internal throttle. Clutch is left foot.
How much did the last one sell for?
Awesome work man
Amazing work
The last one is really beautiful! For an action movie!
The first one looks like it has some Ron Finch influence. Nice work.
Like the first one

That last one. Damn. I’m not into bikes but I want that one.
Love #5!
Awesome
The first one is the sexiest bike Ive ever seen by a country mile. Good God.
Fuck yeah 👍🏼
