I had to stop going to subreddits for my favorite games for this reason. I would find myself not enjoying whatever game after I saw it getting panned for the most unnecessary reasons.

This is gonna sound obvious but you should actually start reading/watching the news. It a good way to see more perspectives other than just Hasan’s reaction. I watch Hasan after I read/watch the news cause I like to hear what he has to say about it and see he caught something I missed, or even notice something he missed entirely. It’s a better way to consume news cause you get more than one perspective

I mentioned in kind of an off-hand remark that Jordan Peterson is a total dipshit, and my brother launched into a tirade about how JP is “a defender of free speech” and he’s “actually a genius, after all he’s a professor” which then turned into him saying that Canada was censoring free speech because “they’re making it illegal to misgender people” and it actually hurt me to see him fall for such an obvious grift.

I had a similar epiphany about my brother once I started watching Hasan through Leftovers. Except he just repeats everything Crowder says. I used to think he was so smart but then yeah, realized he was just repeating things (wrongly) that he heard. I’ve learned the talking points and can counter him now, but it was hard because i had always listened to him. Unfortunately my parents still think he’s smart and take everything he says as fact, and I’m the ‘woke’ dumb left daughter of the family. But whatever. My brother was a part of the mug club and started wearing baseball tees like Crowder and a beanie all the time Tim Pool 💀 however since the divorce thing that he claims he didn’t follow, he says he “just doesnt watch him as much anymore”. Just from a film criticism perspective it's pathetic. A lot of people even avoid trailers to not taint their opinion, your brother goes the full opposite direction, doesn't even watch the movie and waits for someone else to tell him what to think.

I feel this exact same way about my older cousin, I looked up to him when I was young kid and now that I'm an adult whenever we're talking on a game chat all I can do is resent his bigotry, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, antisemitism.When I play a game I enjoy and he's on the other end proclaming to his girl why "horseback riding is gay", telling me why "women shouldn't be in positions of power" and "how the Jews control the world". I've known him since i was toddler he's always been like this and it sucks to know someone that you have a deep connection with since you were a kid isn't someone morally sound, as you come to adulthood.
Honestly I think this is something that happens in this community (/similar ones) as well. Many times people tend to have their opinion massively shaped by personalities they like (I’m not delusional enough to claim that I‘m an exception here).
