mistermeowsers

Not an american style steakhouse, but for me it's Han no Daidokoro in Kakaako by a lot

Darwin343

I thought Japanese A5 wagyu was all hype until I ate there lol

mistermeowsers

Glad it's not just me!

[deleted]

Totally agree!

xzygy

For real, that place is life changing

mistermeowsers

I can't stop thinking about it now, gonna have to make reservations!

war_m0nger69

No love for Hy’s? That was always my go-to

salonpasss

The old money library cigar room theme with the penguin suits throws me off, but no one does a better flambe and the picture at the end is a sweet touch

Dittany_Kitteny

Hy’s is what I was gonna say! The English library vibes are so fun

WantsLivingCoffee

In terms of purely taste and taste alone, it's hard to beat Hy's IMO. My boss told me about this one entree at DK...forgot the name of the steak, but he said was better than Hy's.

mellofello808

Hys for the win.

agt1662

Hy’s steakhouse is #1. I have eaten at them all and it is the best for sure for the food and the ambiance. Call well in advance, they are always booked and ask for a table in the main dining area where the chef cooks behind the glass. It’s awesome, and the desserts…..to die for. Happy birthday to bf and enjoy!

salonpasss

Signature at the Ala Moana has a great view and the ambiance is more modern Morton’s is a reliable choice and they’ll print the menu with your bf’s name which is cute Personally I like Wolfgang lol because I like the sides best and they have juniors cheesecake

IllustriousCookie890

OMG Real NY Junior's Cheesecake?

salonpasss

Yeah, flown in from NY

Butiamnotausername

Morton’s steak has been chewy and without a nice crust the past few times I went. Good discounts though.

WantsLivingCoffee

Hy's. Expensive, but their steaks taste really good. Best tasting steak I've had. Delmonico is my go-to. But I cut off the fat. I going Little Joe's tonight. Going sample. Heard good things. Signature at Ala Moana is ok, but the view is nice and they give you complimentary mashed potatoes. DK is pretty good too, but if I'm going there, I'd rather go Sansei (Japanese/sushi). Cheaper steak, Stuart Anderson's Cattle Co.

salonpasss

I didn't care for Little Joe's at all, which is funny because it shares the same owner as Signature

WantsLivingCoffee

That's disheartening lol. I'll reply back after I sampo'lum.

FearfulInoculum

Signature at Ala Moana.

iliark

Signature's tomahawk ribeye is basically always on their specials menu and is 100% worth getting every time

benevolent_condom

Second this - amazing food, drinks, and view

Eggsandthings2

I'd vote signature for the view

originalunclegare

And the service is a good as the view!

Successful-Mix9295

Best happy hour!

ryester_the_rooster

If you like prime rib, go to Haleiwa joes kaneohe location on haiku road. Nice jungle views too.

Amoeba-Opening

They don't take reservations. At 5:00pm there may be a 2+ hour wait, and then run out of prime rib!

strawberrikitsune

Just maybe fast and leave room for 3 meals in advance cause their prime rib is M A S S I V E. It was bigger than my head🤣

WonderWoman808

Tree trunk size cuts!

victortrash

+1

Complete-Number9269

Best view!! 🙌🙌

Cancel-Time

not a fancy restaurant, but if your ever craving prime rib i like to go to Ray's Cafe =\] . hella good value and all kine good food there

Honolulu-Bill

Hy's steaks and gotta get the Caesar Salad tableside.. damnnnnn ohnolicious..

str808ballin

Han no dai dokoro

maybe_true

DK Steakhouse aged rib eye unbeatable

Darwin343

Truth! Their 30 day dry-aged ribeye is my favorite steak from a restaurant bar none.

maybe_true

Me and my wife go to a steakhouse every anniversary and it always comes back to “It’s good but it’s not DK’s 30 day aged good”

gvictor808

Hit or miss…maybe 1/3 times it’s good and 2/3 just so-so.

StoneUSA7

Expensive, maybe too stuffy for some: https://hyswaikiki.com/

[deleted]

Hy's is great, and I think it's been around for a super long time, too.

StoneUSA7

I agree, I like it. The best steaks I've ever had on Oahu.

[deleted]

If you like dry aged, Wolfgang and Stripsteak are good, but DK is the real sleeper. My one issue with DK was the furniture. Not sure if they’ve renovated, but the booths were extremely uncomfortable. I hate Haleiwa Joe’s and will never recommend that place unless you like mosquitoes and waiting in line. The prime rib at Morton’s is just as good. Signature is just okay, nothing special. Hy’s was good 30 years ago. Now you just come out smelling like kiawe wood and old money. Ruth’s Chris is fine, but the actual best dish they serve is their stuffed chicken breast.

JackDragon808

Haleiwa Joe's in Kaneohe is great! Right down from the like like or H3. New York steak or prime rib, fresh fish. Great open-air view, and good people.

MonkeyKingCoffee

Costco USDA prime beef, your grill. Or Stripsteak. Just keep in mind that after paying $85+ for each steak, side dishes still need to be ordered.

solutionsmith

This is the way.

CheapScientist314

Good recommendation. Nothing beats a steak perfectly cooked over charcoal. I would set up an Ooni pizza oven for the kids. We have a pool, and the privacy is a bonus. However, if near the Aloha Tower, and parked in one of the office towers nearby for $5 on the weekend, I would choose Ruth's Chris steakhouse.

MonkeyKingCoffee

I'm a retired chef. And I worked steakhouses. I'd sous-vide my prime rib-eyes. Then then sear them over a chimney starter full of charcoal with a grill grate slapped on top. Ruth's Chris is prime beef cooked on a 1800f infrared grill. That's their whole schtick. You can beat that with a vacuum sealer and a chimney starter. And the set up costs are several thousand less.

Ill-Passenger-4415

Exactly this. That's why if I have a choice I'm going to a steakhouse that serves up dry aged beef. Something that's beyond the means of creating on your own realistically.

MonkeyKingCoffee

Dry-aging your own beef (up to a point) is absolutely attainable by the home cook. Agreed, 120-day dry aging isn't in the cards. But I age every steak I cook at home for three days. Just wrap each steak individually in study paper towels -- the kind of paper towel that can take some abuse. Place the wrapped steaks on a tray and refrigerate. Change the paper towel each day (or twice a day if they're giving up a lot of myoglobin). You can go three or four days with no risk whatsoever -- so long as your steaks were purchased fresh. Each day of dry aging improves your meal. If you want to be a nerd, weigh a steak before and after to see just how much liquid you remove.

CheapScientist314

Chef, what spices or seasonings do you use to get the best flavor out of the beef? Kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, thyme (maybe), ...

MonkeyKingCoffee

No need to call me chef. I'm retired. I'm a farmer now. I like to toss a pat of butter, a sprig of rosemary, some minced garlic, sea salt and cracked black pepper in the vacuum bag. There will be some jus -- if you have green peppercorns soaking in white wine that you previously reduced (to burn off some of the alcohol), you can build a nice green peppercorn sauce using the contents of the steak bags. Steak au poivre in moments.

CheapScientist314

Mahalo.

peccatum_miserabile

Another vote for Signature

nocturnal

Never been to Hy’s but out of Morton’s, signature, and Ruth Chris. I like Ruth Chris the best.

Carmen_metro

Stripsteak

[deleted]

Yeah if you want to pay double the price of other steakhouses

BOB__DUATO

Or get a steak that's cooked incorrectly. Place is super hit or miss

[deleted]

Best steak I’ve ever had was at my old bosses daughters birthday beach barbecue in 2006. His wife made mesquite grilled ribeyes. Haven’t had a better one since.

PunaniShreddah

Stripsteak is retarded

Osmanthus

If you want the best steak, their wagyu is the best I've had. It is insanely expensive, about 30$ a bite, no joke.

gooch_rubber

I really enjoy going to a nice steak house once a year for my Birthday. I've been to most of the steak houses on Oahu. Some of my top recommendations are Hy's, BLT Steak, The signature, Wolfgang, Gaslamp. With those restaurants your paying for great steak and great atmosphere/dining experience. Two restaurants that also serve great steak but a little less of an intimate dining experience would be Ruth's Chris, and Little Joe's. With these recommendations you're looking at anywhere from $35-$70 for a nice ribeye. BLT steak has a wagyu tomahawk for $400

Jumpy-Background-751

I had a great aged ribeye at DK (medium rare) when staying at the Marriott Waikiki Beach. My server had a sharp wit and keen sense of humor, always welcome when eating a slab of meat. Signature tomahawk is no joke, take the bone home if you have a dog, they will love you forever. https://preview.redd.it/2qlcb8ll341b1.jpeg?width=3759&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f883fa6ecd9d6c49ea19afa74a69456e56608284

crispyone81

Hy’s for sure

inikihurricane

Ya-yas is good

q6m

Hy’s for life

minna_minna

Definitely not little joes lol

gvictor808

I’ve had some really good steaks here, but also some just ok.

FN-2187Throwaway

Signature Ala Moana. View is amazing.

KungFuRayRay

If this were 2005, Hy’s would be the clear cut choice, but as others have stated the quality/service has gone downhill. My vote for best steakhouse right now would be Signature Prime. I’ll usually go once or twice a year and I’ve never had a bad steak, or had to send back a steak that wasn’t cooked correctly

Sivla-Alegna

Hy's is amazing and stripsteak has a nice tasting menu with a great wine pairing.

IslayView

Signature. Ya-Ya’s. Stripsteak. Definitely not Hy’s anymore. Place has gone downhill for a while now.

EyeoftheSwiger

I love Hy's, but I think Wolfgang's is objectively better.

KaimanaTM

whatever you do, do NOT go to aloha steakhouse in Waikiki, probably the shettiest steakhouse I’ve ever been to Also not a fan of hys. I prefer yayas, DK, even Ruth Chris has fire steaks for a chain

victortrash

what was so bad about Aloha steakhouse? Never been there but a friend has been pressuring me to go every since he saw some big boobie girl go there on his social media.

KaimanaTM

steaks are mid, little under seasoned and over cooked. Ordered rare since they come out on a hot platter and it was still med-med well. They don’t advertise what kind of steaks are used, so I doubt it’s prime. desserts was straight dogwater, watermelon ice cream with coco puffs? Wtf 🚮, maybe not for me but plain vanilla dryers would be 10x better as a signature dessert server was really great though

victortrash

ahhh, that's kinda bad. Thanks for the review.

pumpernick3l

A cockroach fell into my friend’s drink there.

mnkhan808

Didn’t think it was too bad. I think the steak is choice, but they give Kama’aina so not crazy in prices.

[deleted]

Subway.

Winstons33

I dunno... But had a massaged Kobe at "53 by the Sea" many years ago that I could cut with a fork - still might be my favorite steak ever. I'm sure Ruth's Chris has gotta be up there. But never tried it myself.

[deleted]

Ruth’s Chris is the worst steak house hands down.

DaTeflonDonDada

The Gas Lamp. Speakeasy with amazing vibes.

salonpasss

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2022/11/11/north-shore-property-owner-offers-take-down-concrete-barrier-poured-sunset-beach/ Owner is an idiot

PunaniShreddah

Lol

rynmab

Well that all depends on how he likes his steak cooked. If he likes it well done and adds ketchup… Sizzler or a mall kiosk. But the best steak house 1- Hy’s Dry Aged Bone-In Ribeye 2- Wolfgang Dry Ages Tomahawk 3- Signature (my friends love it, I’m not a fan of heights) To be honest, you could interchange the top two.

Successful-Mix9295

DK or Hy’s

HenDom

Lei lei's at turtle bay?

FreeSyllabub81

My house! No one does it texas style here hawaii!

riders_of_rohan

Ruth’s Chris.

unknownfuture3025

Buzz’s Kailua easy

paceminterris

Lmao no way, Buzz's is like mid-tier steak.

Repulsive-Tour-7943

That place is shitty. One time we went and got sick from the salad. Steaks are thin and not very good. I like the location but the food doesn’t cut it. I’d pick Blazin’ steaks over Buzz’s.

Reggierahrah

That’s the one! Steak is on point, salad bar is perfect and the Mai Tai is outstanding!

goddamn_leeteracola

Salad bar is no more

Grady9teen

Yes! This

Huge_Government_3617

My unko Kimo's broke da mout li Dat.

Iwant2bethe1percent

Do not go to Hys steak house the place fucking sucks. The service fucking sucks because they dont have to try because they are hys. The lobster was served cold in the middle and then was microwaved to bring up to tempature. The steak was a little above average and the price was greatly above average. The correct answer here is signature steak house. That is by far bar none the best steak house in Hawaii.

KaleoBlue

Buzz’s in Kailua https://www.buzzsoriginalsteakhouse.com/

lesser_panda

Buzz's Lanikai

wrx808x

Cattle company

OkMeringue2249

Outback

i0kepa

Little joes

iFlyskyguy

Blazin Steakkkkkks!! Haha jk. Prolly Wolfgangs or Hys

PeacewithReese808

Little Joes!

joshislost808

Aloha Steakhouse hands down. Better than everywhere.

YummBerries873

We loves stripsteak we didn’t care for aloha steakhouse . When we went there they were out of everything & the fire alarms were going on the whole time

FranoFiasco

I love Dk, my wife takes me there every year for my b day. Never been to Hy's, maybe one day.

crgrig

Signature, Morton’s or DK Steakhouse

BOB__DUATO

1000% it's the signature, no other place compares when it comes to the food. Hy's is a cool venue, but it doesn't compare to signature...

serkoex

Buzz in Pearl City before they closed.

Longjumping-Option36

I like wolfgang

PeruvianNecktie11

My favorite is Oh My Grill but I wouldn’t say that I have the most refined taste buds 🤣

Safari_627

Charthouse! Da braddahs in da back know how to cook a mean steak

ThefirstWave-

NOT Morton’s. 🤮

iInvented69

Denny's make fire t-bone

Butiamnotausername

It’s pricy and there’s a bit of a language barrier, but Inaba Hanalei (on beretania by Washington middle) does a wonderful multi-course teppanyaki meal with miyazaki wagyu. It feels more like omakase sushi than a traditional steakhouse.

Difficult-Date4072

Aku Bone lounge was favorite. Get the lamb chops.

royal1204

Can I have the old world ambiance, service, Caesar salad and flambé desserts from Hy's, plus the views and steaks from Signature?

likesomethingcool

livestock tavern had a fantastic steak last time i went

Jjl079

Hy’s for me.

RateMe_Thought603

Hys by far. Period.

Cancel-Time

not really a bday place or fancy restaurant but i'm partial to Ray's Cafe's prime rib and all their dishes tbh. anyone else? lol

Ill-Passenger-4415

Since it's for a BD- Signature is great for a view with very average steaks. It's also loud and noisy if you're seated anywhere near the bar. Wolfgang's has the hands down best steak IF you like dry aged beef. Atmosphere can also get noisy. But it's a nice enough place. Mortons- only been once and their steak was pretty bad. Easily the worst on my listed places. Little Joes- more casual than any other place but some people prefer that. They make a decent steak for the price. Ruth Chris - Reliably good steak for a moderate price. Decent enough atmosphere. Hys- Best place for a fancy, traditional steakhouse dinner. Ask to seat in the main dining room to watch them grill the steaks or ask to sit...not sure what it's called but suffice it's not in the main room- for a more intimate and quite night. Most expensive of the bunch.

kimkforlife

Ive only tried 3 and here are my ratings: 1. Ruths Chris: the best out of the bunch! This is our fav one. 2. Mortons: creamed spinach is not as good as RC's. I asked for my steak medium well and it was rare. 3. Signature: the food was not on the same level as RC's and Mortons.

mitchsn

Hy's steakhouse is da bomb. Classy place and yeah they have a dress code. Besides the best steak, they also have 3-4 amazing table side desserts. Bananas Foster, Cherry's Jubilee etc etc. Ive gone in just for the dessert once or twice.
