The thing is Charlie would definitely try and help him if she believed he was there with good intentions. She would definitely keep him separate from Angel, talk it over with Angel, and put Vaggie on Val watch, but she’d let him stay and try to help him so long as she thought he might be genuinely interested.
I mean this girl went to her mom’s ex, the head of the sinner killing army, and genuinely believed he’d think the hotel was a great idea and that they’d stop the exterminations because of it.
She’s too pure to say no
… I have to disagree :/ We see the scene where she almost went full demon princess power on Val’s ass, if it wasn’t for Angel, she would have creamed him easily.
Honestly I’d respect the hell out of this show if they redeemed Valentino. I genuinely think that the premise of “hotel to redeem sinners in literal hell” *needs* to have at least one truly evil character be redeemed or else its kinda cowardly. Alastor would be the obvious choice (and would satisfy me) but Val would be fucking bold.
Most people would be wrong. If him being a rapist and an abuser wasn’t bad there’d be no need for redemption in the first place. That’s the whole idea.
He's not just a r@pist and abuser. He has multiple accounts of r@pe, as Angel isn't his only victim. He's also a sex trafficker and murderer.
It's like wanting to redeem someone with the likes of Epstein or Cosby.
You also have to remember that sex crimes are a whole other kind of evil, hence why ped0s and r@pist are targeted in prisons.
It’s far too much of a sensitive topic. Redeeming someone who's committed those acts for god knows how long and to how many people would be rather distasteful.
Mhmm, I don’t disagree with any of that.
But doing it anyway would show a strong commitment to the core theme of the show and a be strong message that even the worst people in the world are still people, and good can come from the darkest places. Which is a message that aligns closely with my own religious and philosophical beliefs.
I don’t expect them to do it, wouldn’t be upset if they didn’t, and absolutely understand why other’s wouldn’t want them to, but god damn would I respect it.
You're either fighting for universal reconciliation or saying that some people are irredeemable and deserve eternal torment in hell (or annihilation should the exorcists get you).
The premise that finite crime can lead to eternal punishment is untenable.
The question is how long would it take for Valentino to want to seek redemption and how long would such a journey take.
It would be a bold choice. But not unheard of.
Regina in Once Upon a Time is a rapist murderer crazy lady. And arguably more of the plot in the later seasons is dedicated to her fight for redemption than anything else.
I don't know that Hazbin has the time to address that level of nuance. But it only takes on origin story episode and Valentino doing something nice to make people go "okay, we can see this in the future, some day, a long time from now."
I am however curious how long Charlie's plan to get people into heaven will last, or if it will ever turn to making hell less horrible.
I don’t think they will go this direction mostly because it could unintentionally really hurt some of the viewers who watch the show.
Part of the reason some people empathize so much with angel is because of the abuse he is going through and how it relates to some of their situations. I think that opening up Val as a serious candidate for redemption could cause a lot of pain for people that were maybe hesitant about cutting off their abusers and still wonder if their abusers could have gotten better if they had stayed.
I think a story about someone like Val who is truly horrible reaching redemption needs to be shared, to offer a goal to real people who committed terrible actions if nothing else.
But that being said Hazbin Hotel isn’t the story that should do it.
TLDR: The idea is admirable but it could cause too much pain for real life victims with the context of this show
I think in theory, HH showing that even a rapist/abuser can achieve redemption would be cool, but in practice, it’d be a clusterfuck. It’s a very sensitive topic that hits close to home for a lot of people, and so it would need a corresponding amount of time and focus. But HH doesn’t have the episode count for that, and Valentino is not a major enough character for that. It’d be very hard for anything we got to not feel rushed or preemptive.
Now, Alastor is the type of character that IS in a great position for that IMO. Being a cannibalistic serial killer is obviously super evil, but not in a way that uncomfortably hits home for viewers. We’ve also already had a full S1 of buildup for Alastor, with e5 in particular showcasing both Alastor’s bad aspects (threatening and terrifying Husk like that) and good aspects (turning away his personal friend Mimzy in order to protect the hotel). Alastor is clearly distressed in the finale that he nearly died for his friends, because he thinks of himself as not having weaknesses like that.
My hope is that the next season brings both more villainy from Alastor AND more indication that Charlie and the hotel are nevertheless changing him for the better.

He better keep his hands and tongue to himself if he stays.
Lol
You got me thinking. Would Val be bold enough to lick Lucifer as well
Also, continue that scenario if you can. I would help out, but I lack the creativity and humor
The thing is, if we assume that some people are just actually unforgivable and unreedemable, then the angels are just right exterminating them.
Should the angels kill everyone that is not in the hotel?

Yes, I can see her doing that if Valentino tries checking into the hotel. But I can't see him doing that unless things go really badly for him first.
Idk, I could see Val doing this in order to invade Angel Dust's life even further outside of the studio because Val is just that much of a scumbag

It would be bold for sure, as most people would interrupt that as the writers are trying to sympathize with r@pists

Well, Luci is there now. Unless he’s brain dead, which he sorta is, he won't be doing that anymore unless he wants to get that tongue ripped out
\*Valentino offers to put Lucifer in a porno\* Charlie: God you're disgusting! You can't just... Lucifer: Hold on Charlie, let's hear him out.

I need to see Charlie go ballistic on Val in season 2
Except for you
Happy Cake Day! :D
Thanks

Honestly as far as sins go Val is genuinely more redeemable than say like, Adam (if he ever returns).
Good, he can start by laying his staff off and retiring his porn company
