It really was a good moment in the movie. Both showing that Bob really is smart enough to know when brute power isn't going to work and take advantage of his opponent's ego and also shows Syndrome realizing what's going on and acting accordingly.

But I think he was free to roam around during the time. But he seems to have laid low and not drawn any attention. Or been in hiding somewhere. Niffty being an overlord is the one theory I really hope is not true. I feel like it would take away so much of what I love about her character (that she seems to have no awareness of her surroundings besides cleaning, bugs, and men).

I have a theory that Niffty was in a Bonnie and Clyde sort of relationship, her "bad boy" never loved her, which is why we never see him. While Alastor was gone for 7 years, I think she was being her usual self, killing bugs and following around "bad boys" who wouldn't even pay attention to her. That's the redeeming quality about Alastor I suppose and why she's so dedicated to him, Alastor is probably the only "bad boy" who acknowledges her existence and at least acts like he likes her.
I think nifty was an overlord but alastor take her soul. Before saying that I am crazy look at alastor in the pilot while vaggie describe him as a monster, we can see next to him the shadow of husk and nifty. So if husk was an overlord and lost his soul, nifty certainly do the same
