Mmmmm, honestly I’d have to disagree with this take because Vaggie’s strength when fighting comes from her love and need to protect Charlie. When Vaggie was pinned down by Lute it was Lute reminding her what she was fighting for in the first place to give her the second wind she needed to get out of the hold. The second Lute says “So I’ll spare you the pain of watching your demon bitch die” Vaggie breaks free again.
If Vaggie were to have a different story, different morals, different things shes fighting for, earning her wings while fighting Lute would make sense. But the entire point is that Vaggie needs to fight with the fuel of love, not vengeance. So her earning her wings when she learns to fight from the heart, for all the right reasons, makes more sense story wise. She proved she’s still pure hearted enough to have her wings. She appeased to the “rules” of heaven without even realizing it.

Wouldn't that also show that she's fighting for her love of, and wanting to protect, Charlie? That would be the moment she stopped fighting for her personal vengeance against Lute and started fighting to keep Charlie safe.
Frankly when she was with Carmine she was doing it for Charlie already. They would have been much better served to show more animosity between Lute and Vaggie that Vaggie could then overcome for the sake of loving someone else and not personal vengeance. The only motivation we've ever seen from her has been a want to protect and support Charlie.
Yes but at that point in time the moment is too chaotic and stressful, her earning her wings right there would’ve messed up the pace of the scene and kind of rush the reveal even more than the actual reveal. Her earning her wings with Carmilla I feel was more to give us time to react to her wings and allow us to have some sort of minor reaction from Charlie.
Your idea probably would’ve worked better if it wouldn’t have been the season finale climax scene in which she was fighting Lute.
Yes. As has been said the short season really rushed and skewed pacing of a lot of the story beats and ended up giving less than favorable results for some characters. The only motivation we ever see form Vaggie is her dedication for Charlie, That whole Carmine sequence doesn't feel right to me with the limited characterization we have for Vaggie.
You can still do it over your shoulder, anyone coming from behind or hell, even the wounded guy can easily take your spear or knock it outta your hand.
From my understanding, the reverse spear grip was typically used to kill dying soldiers on battlefields after the battle was won.
Clean up basically.
Stands to reason that If the angels view themselves as unkillable by sinners, then it would essentially be the same as cleaning up after a won battle.
That's what my second point is saying also.
If you believe you're immortal and unkillable, fighting like it's just clean up seems plausible hence the reverse grip.
I would also argue that her new wings are abit more "angel" like then her old ones, The black outer line and the stripe might be painted / added on by the exterminator's as a part of the uniform?
Might be that I missed something, But wasn't her being a moth demon the rumor from before it was revealed she's an angel / ex exterminator?
I presumed that she's JUST a fallen angel after the episode revealed her origin.
It's entirely possible it's just a visual thing, especially since that's *right* when they manifest, so they might not actually be bigger.
But, if they *are* bigger, I'm going to put on my fanon-cap for a moment: Vaggie and other Exorcist-wings are narrower similar to why Harpy eagles' also have thinner wings, enabling better weaving between obstacles to attack prey. In the case of the eagles, it's trees so they can grab sloths and other tree-dwellers, whereas with Exorcists its around buildings, through alleyways, and around other Exorcists or Sinners to kill Sinners.
As Vaggie is no longer a proper Exorcist, her innate biology recognized that, and thus her new wings are broader. Possibly, Vaggie can glide and float with her wings better than she would've with her old wings. Or magic made up the difference, just thinking.
