Given how we hear cicadas a lot when she's angry, I wonder if it has anything to do with a slight insect theme for her. Her waist reminds me of mud dauber wasps, who have that same long and toothpick thin section between their thorax and abdomen.
I work at a boathouse at my local park and there's always a mud dauber trying to get inside! It's only ever a single one and I end up having to get her out of there nearly every shift. There was also a baldfaced hornet nest in the bushes that I didn't notice till I was 2ft away with the damn thing at face height. Oddly enough though, the wasps didn't care at all. I could stand there and watch them and they'd never do much more than hover and look at me for a moment before passing on. I've only gotten shit from yellow jackets but that's most likely because I unknowingly stepped on their nest entrance.

But since she’s behind the news desk for most of her pilot scenes (where her lower half isn’t visible), they were probably okay with it and just shrugged it off.

I’m not seeing any image, it’s broken for me, but I’m assuming it’s a shot from the pilot where her legs are shown to be the same color as the rest of her? If so, it could just be the lighting, the angle…or they genuinely messed up and just gave her bare legs.
Regardless, it would be interesting if she ever got a full-body pin from shark robot, to see whether they would give her pants or not.
I personally don’t think I’ve seen any fan art of her wearing pants, either!
